General / Laws / rules for riding in France
« on: 04 February 2019, 02:53:08 pm »
ok so my son been selected to play in a  "round ball" tournament near Brest in June, so I decided that rather than get stitched up driving the parents minibus I'm taking my bike over on Ferry (Plymouth to Roscoff). (booked!)
destination is approx. 40 miles from ferry, campsite is 8 miles from there.
never taken a vehicle over.
I know they drive on wrong side of the road & that's a bout it!
I know June a way off but want to make sure of few things like, I was thinking about taking bike fuelled up (its a Triumph Nightstorm , full tank range 170miles fitted with panniers ).. is full tank allowed on ferry?
what legal requirements to I need? GB plate? bulbs? warning triangle? hi-vis?
searching through I see gloves are compulsory.. but I wear them anyway!

cheers
Robbie

« on: 03 December 2018, 10:09:19 am »
asking for a mate so details a bit sketchy...  :)

a mate has got a gold boxeye that they have made into a naked front end and has complete front fairing including headlights indicators (so I am led to believe)

how much would it expect to fetch if they were to sell it?

General / Recommending Russ's Tyres in Portsmouth!
« on: 08 October 2018, 02:26:36 pm »
if anyone near PO postcode looking for new tyres I can recommend Russ.

rang him Thursday for new tyres, took his suggestion of Avon's (for my Triumph NightStorm)
he sent me a text Friday midday letting me know they had arrived, and hour & half later I was back on the road (after he had sorted an issue with brakes which couldn't have been spotted without taking the rear wheel out!
Full set of Avons fitted for £236 all in, which about price for a rear other brand
(Protyres were asking £55+vat for fitting as its a cruiser!)

he only fits bike tyres and whilst I was there he had a constant stream of punters with all makes & kinds of bike!

only downside is there isn't a coffee machine  :lol (however there is a Maccy D's just down road)

paid the £100 fine & took the 3 points no issue or complaints  :o
looked at photos and the camera was over other carriageway!!
in the picture the ARMCO separating the lanes is clearly seen and I am riding away from him
I never realised that they could do that!! my ignorance, my fault.. so from now on when I seen a camera on the other side I wont laugh at others heading towards it!!!

General / Insults... whats your best?
« on: 13 July 2016, 01:00:36 pm »
After overhearing 1 colleague refer to another as a "Cockwomble" (an insult I'd not heard in years!) got me thinking.. what's the best insult you ever heard, even if it was directed at you and you thought 'you know what, that's a good one I'll let you have that!'

I like using the term Wazzock! as people know its an insult but its not strong enough for them to retaliate to!

General / Bikers Dilema ...
« on: 20 May 2016, 09:52:23 am »
So riding home last night, I saw 3 scooters in the distance ( why do they always ride in 3's?), after following the smell of 2 stroke I caught up with the last man , who was clearly in the process of having mechanical problems.

now as a biker do you
a) stop to help
b) catch up to the other 2 & let them know their mate has broken down bout a mile back
or c) catch up & pass the other 2 & not say anything

I know what I did lol :rollin :rollin

General / Working over Christmas!!
« on: 04 December 2015, 07:50:19 am »

So the boss has sent an email out saying who is covering the 3 days between Christmas & New Year..
I work near Basingstoke & there are 4 of us that cover the support desk
I live in Falmouth (but with digs near Pompey),
Grant lives in Newcastle and rents a room in a pub near work,
Paul lives in Tewkesbury and commutes daily,
Scott lives in Sandhurst so has the shortest commute.

guess which 3 have all been told we have to work 1 day each between Christmas & New Year??
well it ain't Scott!!

oh & to top it off, we support military systems and checking with all 3 military service desks, they are all on leave from 18th December to 4th January!!!

now I'm not moaning about having to work, as I have done my time & have worked over Christmas / New Year. its just the fact that each of us that has to travel furthest have to come in for 1 day just to stare at a phone that won't ring as no one will be manning the other end!!

I even volunteered to divert the works phone to my mobile for the full period & if needed I could drive up but no,, we need to be in!!
oh n then manager asks if I know how to open up the secure areas... who do you think does it most mornings at least an hour before the boss arrives?

anyway anyone else working over the Christmas period? lol

General / Rugby World Cup
« on: 18 September 2015, 01:51:48 pm »
Anyone got tickets for any of the games?
Who do you reckon will win?
are you going to avoid it?

Me: I'm not going to any matches!, I would love England to win but tbh I enjoy watching good games and as long it isn't won by bad refereeing (which is rare in rugby IMHO) I'm just going to sit & watch it at home with my family!!

General / NOT a good idea to buy one of these!!
« on: 16 September 2015, 10:15:08 pm »

General / engine not revving past 6k but only when in gear
« on: 29 July 2015, 03:37:03 pm »
Hi need help
my 2002 fzs600 has gone into what I can only describe as limp home mode!

I was riding along M40 when over taking and engine just refuses to pull in gear past 6000 rpm

I have had it with my mechanic and he has changed ecu
checked plugs
air filter
carbs
ht leads
coils
fuel & pump
he has bought the manual from Yamaha as well as using my Haynes. he thinks its electrical rather than mechanical as it runs smooth as upto 5500 around town speeds in all gears but just won't pull past that
revs freely not in gear and will red line!

anyone any ideas or had this themselves? how did you fix it?
