Title: FZ1 09 plate Spark plug change
Post by: Timbo on 06 July 2019, 02:57:40 pm
Hi all

Pointer please ..... how to you access the spark plugs to change them.

From the top or is it from the front\side. How much have you got to take off to access them?

Thanks

Sounds like you've still got the AIS on your bike, in which case it's a matter of time and patience. Many have removed the AIS which makes plug changing and cleaning the cam covers a breeze.

Are you saying you cannot get to them without removing the AIS?

No, just that by removing the AIS, plug removal is a piece of cake rather than a struggle, and is cheap enough to blank off the holes that are left. Saves a minimal amount of weight as well.

With the AIS still installed you will have to take the tank and air box off to gain proper access.
With the AIS removed it is possible ( but still hard) to do them just by dropping the radiator off its mounts then using multi joint ratchets.
Either way it's a pain in the arse compared to other bikes I've owned 🙄

I was assuming Timbo has a Gen 1. If that's not the case then ignore anything I've posted as I have no knowledge of Gen 2's.

Not long done mine on 08 FZ1 just loosened the rad wasn't to bad to do, worst bit is getting the coil sticks out. Have the plasters handy skinned a couple of knuckles though.

Just loosen rad on mounts. I changed coolant at same time so you can remove a radiator hose to make access easier.  Space Is tight but manageable with some swearing.

All done, quite easy in reality but we drained the coolant\dropped the rad to do it which seems a lot of work for a plug change!!  :)

My FZS1000 is a lot easier!! :rolleyes
