Thanks for that Mike.

Yes, after draining old fuel out, I've just found out that thrashing it doesnt improve the situation.

Will try the carb cleaner and a prayer mat next  :lol

Any best recommendations on the carb cleaner? I should have got out on it more often, my fault.

Thanks again.

Hi

I think I've just experienced exactly the same symptoms as old son had.

Funnily enough just before my mot and after a long lay up.
Sounds as if running on 2 or 3 etc.

I've drained the tank and ran engine till it stopped, then added some fresh fuel.

Still the same symptoms exist. Would taking it for a thrashing help?

Mike suggested blocked pilots and/or idle circuit passages.

Whats the best/easiest way to deal with this and how do you drain the carbs?

Any other things I should also look at preferably in a trouble shooting order?

Many thanks
Steve

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: alarm removal
« on: 23 November 2014, 07:02:23 am »
Hi All

Had my Fazer for 12 yrs now from new and its never let me down, to be fair I don't use it that much but when I do, I do!
Been following the threads about the Meta357T knowing that one day its going to happen to me.

Well guess what! Not used the bike for the last 4 months so thought I would just check everything was OK battery wise as I leave mine on the Optimate.

Ignition on, fuel pump buzzing away nicely as you would expect but no action from the key fob, funny I thought and then nothing when starter pressed. I could see the battery was fine as I was getting 12.9v from the multiguage lights came on bright and a manual check across the terminals confirmed this.

Yes, it must be the Meta then. Being a bit cautious about bridging/cutting wires and stuff I had another search and found that someone had removed their negative battery terminal for 10 mins and reconnected it to reset something. Thought to myself, why not give this a try. Sure enough when I reconnected I heard some feint sounds and she fired into life without touching the key fob. Result!!!

I thought that after 20 mins or so the alarm may re-set itself and I would be back to square one. But no, I have tried several more times over the last few days and the alarm seems to have died in an unarmed state. Making the key fob redundant. Could that be so?

If not, I am now confident to use the bridging technique above should I need to.

I know you will all say, why not do it now but I just wanted to see what happens.

Hope the negative battery bit might get someone out of a quick jam like mine did.

Regards

Hi

Has anyone got two going spare please in a good position for race day on Saturday 28th?
We usually manage to get them there, but thought this year I would just ask around first.

Thanks Mike.
I changed the plugs to Iridium a couple of years ago but will also have a look at this.
Agreed, I should get out more and will also run some cleaner through as well

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Hunting at idle
« on: 20 May 2014, 04:21:44 am »
Hi All

Never had a problem before with the engine/carbs and have had this bike from new (17,000 miles 2002) if fact I'm not even sure it is a problem, well not a major one as its never done this before.

Bike has had the 'full monty' done several years ago by Mike and has always run strong and still does.

Its just recently, on my last run, it started to hunt at idle revs between 1000 to 1350. Before this the idle was set at abt 1350 as stayed there fine.

Other symptoms are that it now hestiates when pulling from below 3000 in the higher gears and when pulling away in first at low revs.

Above 3000 its just as normal, well full monty normal and will pull smoothly all the way to the red line without any problem or hesitation. :)

I'm not sure if its a coincidence but I have just swapped my original bars for some Renthals so could there be something I have knocked/altered in the process that could account for this?

Bike as you can see doesn't get used that much but I'm sure it was fine on the May Day run to Hastings with the Renthals on.

Any ideas/suggestions Mike in particular or others in general would be gratefully put to the test.

Many thanks

Steve

Just found this snapshot clip of our great day out at Bruntingthorpe.
Fazers at Bruntingthorpe 2
You can just see a quick glimpse (very quick) of a younger, slimmer Pitternator (sorry Jon) and a slightly blurred one of Driller having a crafty fag at 0.13/14  :lol
Brought back great memories.
Got some stills somewhere, but can't seem find them at them at the moment.

Hi
Not long got back after a very chilly ride back. At least it was dryer than the ride down.
I think you summed the occasion up very well Jon. Such a nice family and made us all very welcome and I felt very honoured being part of the courtege to John's final journey.
Still thawing out as I type, now were did my nuts go!
RIP John.

Just seen this post, very sad news.
I will try to make it to Drillers procession weather permitting and it will give me an excuse to get the Fazer out of the mothballs and say farewell to a thoroughly nice bloke.
