If you use such a connector for the  +12V wire of the nav you do not have to make any changes on the original wiring harness. You just have to find out which of the both connectors of the horn has +12V with ignition on.

Here is another picture of my TDM were I did the wiring in the same way like on my Fazer. You can see the original horn plug and the red wire for the nav.

Connecting a wire to the horn has the same effect and it is much easier.

Just do what I do and unplug it when you've finished with it. Simples.
Then it is o.k.
But when you make a permanet wiring which is not so unusual I have my doubts.

I fitted a plug to mine and it is connected via the Optimate charging socket under the seat.
And always removing the seat to unplug the unit would be no solution for me.

It might work with the direct wiring to the battery. But I am not happy with that because the + 5 V pin of the charging cradle is always live and the voltage converter will draw a little current even without the nav installed. This current wil be only some mA but why should I stress the battery with that.

I installed a socket near the ignition switch and wired it to the horn. So I do not have permanent + 12V but only with ignition switched on.

I use  the Krauser K-Wing-system. I have only pics of the carrier system on my bike

Here is the complete system with K3 panniers and K4 top box on the bike from which I bought it:

Here in Germany it is "Heute ohne nennenswerte Defekte angekommen" which means "arrived today without nameable defects"

In Germany they say "Bring mich Werkstatt".
This is not immaculate German but it means "take me to the shop"  :rollin

Did some disassembly on my BMW.

The initial reason was to replace the pushrod seals. But the last series of airheads suffer from some poor quality.
So I checked the weak points such as pitted cam followers and the "pin of horror"  :)
One cam follower was a little bit worn (no pitting) so I will replace it.
But the "pin of horror" is still in place. And this are good news. This part got its name in the German airhead forum because if it is missing it can cause a complete enginge breakdown or at least a complicated strip down to reinstall it.
This pin fixes the position of the front bearing of the crankshaft. It is caulked in the housing. But this caulking was done more or less carefully so it can fall out and you might find it in the oil pan.....
Often nothing happens but the front bearing can move and then the complete oil circuit gets blocked with all consequences  :eek

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Differences in frames

As far as I know it was only the Nosecone/headlights that changed, the rest stayed the same.
There was a little bit more. And the foxeye came in 2002 not in 2003.
Fuel tank volume grew from 18 to 20 (in 2000) to 22 liters (in 2002).
Exhaust  was lowered in 2000 to give a better seat position for the rear passenger due to lower footpegs.
And the passengers handle was changed in 2000 (resulting in a slight modification of the rear fairing).
According to the official part catalogue (at least avialable in Germany for everyone) there are 4 differnent part numbers for the frames:
1998 and 1999 5DM-21110-00
2000 5DM-21110-10
2001 5DM-21110-20 or 5DM-21110-21 depending on VIN
2002 and 2003 5RT-21110-00
So there should be more or less big differences between the different years. But also a simple change in the colouring might be a reason for a new part number. Maybe the black tone was slightly changed.

The model code on the label on the crossmember behind the battery tells you the year:
2001 is 5DMC or 5DMD
2002 is 5RT1 or 5RT2
2003 is 5RT4 or 5RT5

but it's also important that both sides are equal.

To achieve this I built this thing from scrap:

But you can also buy such a tool for a lot of money:

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Down pipes and exhaust modification?
« on: 23 June 2015, 06:46:02 pm »
From my 4 bikes my Fazer has the worst sound by far. Even my Honda lawn mower sounds better  :rollin
But I will not change anything on the original system because I am convinced that every modification will spoil the torque curve which I think is excellent.
For a nice sound I have 3 twins with aftermarket exhausts  :)

Maybe this R1 has a crossplane crankshaft:
! No longer available

and then this is not true:
Quote
It's strange it's the same firing order as the fzs600 1-2-4-3 but it's such a massive difference.

The firing order of that engine is 1-3-4-2
http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/designcafe/en/about-bikes/supersport/index.aspx?view=article&id=442652
It is the same with the V8-engines. Those with crossplane crankshaft like from the US cars sound great and e.g. the V8 Ferraris with flat plane crankshaft sound very poor....

However, my replacement calipers are identical apart from the banjo bolt location. The new caliper has a 90 degree change in banjo bolt orientation + a balance pipe.
This is the old version from the Tundercat and Thunderace.

I've got to spray the front fairing blue among a few other tweaks, anyone know the colour for this bike?
2002 and 2003 are "Deep Purplish Blue Metallic C" DPBMC colour code: 0564
But they have foxeyes.
Yours has boxeyes and it might be a production year 2001. In that case the colour is "
Blueish Metallic C" BMC colour code: 0775

My aches and pains are why I am here  :rollin
I had a very nice 1988 NX650 but in the last months I (52) had more and more problems getting on the bike due to problems with my right leg.
So I sold it and bought a 2003 foxeye and everything is fine now  :)

Not only fit all years 98-03 FZS 600 models, but also: YZF-R6, FZS 1000, XJR 1300, BT 1100.
And YZF-R1 1998 to 2001 and 2002/2003 but then with golden stars  and aluminium pistons, and TDM 900  ;)

Last year I fitted a  BSM Future exhaust to my 1994 NTV because it is made of stainless steel and the sound ist better  ;)

But midrange torque was not so good as with the original exhaust.
Today I changed the main jets in the carbs and the top cover of the air cleaner housing with the parts from the 1988 model and I fitted a K&N.
Now the bike runs better than with the original exhaust and the sound is again much better  :lol
And I balanced the carbs. Before balancing CO in idle was 2,2 % which is quiet good (German MOT limit is 4,5 %) and after 0,8 %  8)

So I am pretty sure that the old battery is gone altough it is only 1,5 years old  :eek

Now I am completely sure  :)
When I removed my nice yellow battery from the bike the voltage was 9,8 V.
I charged it with my Ctek MXS 5.0 in bike mode.
When the Ctek showed that charging is complete I disconnected it.
Voltage on the battery was only 12,62 V. Normally it should be at least 12,8 V direct after disconnection.
After one hour the voltage dropped to 11,69 V....

Installed a new battery, checked if there is a current drain without ignition on but actually there was nothing.
Then checked the charging voltage and everything was fine.
