Hi,
I have one and mine did the same dropped LED segments.
I found that you need to find the box under the tank the two cables connect into.
Take out the display cable and clean the connector.
The pins starts to corrode and each pin is a segment on the display.

FZS600 Fazer / replacement caliper
« on: 21 May 2020, 12:14:30 am »
Hi,
stripped and cleaning calipers over lockdown... revealed one front caliper with siezed piston and badly rusted pot.
so purchased repacement caliper.  Rear caliper has siezed pad pin!!!!! will not come out allen head rounded now also.

First thing first...

So just recieved an ebay replacement caliper with pads which have loads of brake material left....
Now caliper was wrapped in bubble wrap with pads still fitted.
But caliper was not drained and the whole lot was soaked in brake fluid which had leaked out of banjo bolt.

My question is after cleaning off all the brake fluid with brake cleaner can i use the pads.....
They look to be sintered metal pads and have HH on back.

Can I use them will they have absorbed any brake fluid....
I am assuming it was DOT4. Can i cook them in the oven to dry them out.

Best way to get rear pad pin out....

Help required.
can someone tell me what the bolt size or sizes are for the suspension linkage.
2x for dogbones I assume they are same length.
2x for shock attachment M10x???mm (what length some say 75mm) top bolt for R6 shock I assume the bottom bolt is the same as std bolt.

The std dog bone bolts measure as 130mm long, the dogbones i have for the R6 shock are (127mm) these are 8mm thick.
Std dog bones are 6mm thick so is there enough extra on the std 130mm bolts to take the 8mm dog bones.
Or do I need to buy a couple of bolts 135mm long, if so what M size are the bolts.

The dogbones that came with the shock are 127mm centres, how much does this lift the rear....
I would like the rear to be std.
So where can I buy the 130mm dogbones...

Also the top bolt looks to have three washers is this normal.
The length is 90mm long, is this long can anyone say how much thread will stick out of the locknut.

If its too long what length shorter bolt do i need to buy....

jump to 3:40/9:18 this looks an interesting display replacement....

And you can get one of the models on amazon uk.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trail-Tech-202-704-Endurance-Computer/dp/B007NNJKCG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=trail+tech&qid=1561143421&s=gateway&sr=8-1&linkCode=ll1&tag=fortnine-21&linkId=e292f3dc6257eeebac441d49cb7585ab&langua

The voyager pro looks great but a bit expensive at £575 http://www.trailtechproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Voyager_Off_Road_Motorcycle.html

« on: 17 November 2019, 04:40:52 pm »
Just spent 3hrs removing hein gerrick heated grips right side took ages to get off.
Not so much heat after many years of use.

Then rerouted new wiring all different lengths. Hid excess cable under tank in front of electrical box.
The new oxford advanced sports are fitted no need to trim as they are 123mm long and fit well.

Beware the superglue provided sets in seconds if you don't get it in place first time forget it it sets instantly.
So test fit more than one time to make sure you get it right.
Roll on the cold weather.

« on: 21 September 2019, 12:19:13 am »
thats a good possible solution.

I bought this it arrived yesterday https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07678BJLJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

watch the video, amazing stuff....
This may rot the studs to nothing but then if that is all thats left then so be it.

But then I may get the bolts off and we shall see if they will go back on or not.
just ordered a set of left handed drill bits incase I need to drill out broken studs...

spotted these on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FZ-1-Fazer-TITANIUM-exhaust-studs-/251960901781?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10&var=550828714134
could be a solution but the price is very steep to do all 4 headers.
i could buy 1m M8 A4 SS rod for a £10 and get 8x SS a4 bolts for £1.52 from ebay....

yes just what I was thinking.

Bike passed MOT in June so .........
Do i do nothing but will it get through the winter as it's my all year round bike...

But if i attempt to re seal with either new gasket seals or just a load of fire gum will i open a can of worms...

if i was to replace the studs i would seriously think about drilling out and tap 8mm SS studs cut from SS rod and use new SS nuts....

what would you do....

FZS600 Fazer / exhaust blowing at headers.....
« on: 20 September 2019, 09:49:37 pm »
MY03 200miles of 55k.

Replaced the headers probably 8-9 years ago cannot remember with what but they are SS and looking ok for thier age.

But this week i started to notice at startup an odd noise at idle. I stop at a set of lights 1/2 mile from home every weekday and by then the noise disappears until the last few days.

So it's definatly turned into blowing headers.
The nuts are SS and holding up to the year round weather that is thrown at them but this is the big but

the studs (90116-06475)

look like they have rotted with corrosion can this happen to a 55k 16year old bike.

Will I need to replace the studs with new one's which i know can be a knightmare.

may try and put a photo on tomorrow.....

sorry typo error not a rivet nut but rivet link.

I fitted a split link first and had the motorcycle shop replace the split link with a rivet one...

Bike back on the road....

It cost me..

£15 to have a new rivet nut fitted to chain at bike shop + £5 for rivet nut.
New clutch push rod (£38) fixed the slipping clutch.
A replacement push rod oil seal and a new oil seal/bearing cover plate (£11).

And to fix the damaged casting I used a greased bolt and a load of J-B weld origina, the new formula it has increased strength.
I screwed in the bolt to the end stop and then put the J-B weld all over the exposed screw threads and this created a new casting.
Left it 48hrs to fully cure added some more waited 48hrs to build up the lug...
Then removed the bolt it came away with a nice crack when a bolt releases. new threads formed out of J-B weld.

So used thread lock and a sprung washer to hold the original bolt back in place the lower bolt was torqued up.
I have ridden it 100 miles now and all ok....

Will check on it over the weekend.

I presently have a functioning clutch sprocket but the push rod is in two pieces.

Ordered a new push rod, and oil seal as well because the break is about 75mm from the sprocket side.

So seal may have been damaged when the rod snapped.

also to get the rest of rod out. I am looking for a small magnet stick on end of one piece and magnetically remove the remaining length from inside or remove old seal and use long nose pliers to get the 2nd part of the rod out....

ordered clutch gasket at same time in case need to take off clutch cover and remove rod from that side....

friends got a low torque wrench for the clutch spring bolts if I need it.

clutch push rod was snapped in two pieces when chain broke.

clutch still works. Ordered replacement at £38.

But my question i will the ball bearing still be in place, what holds it in place.

I would to Not have to removing clutch cover to see if the ball bearing is were it should be.

the outer plate would not stay on the pins.

Whereas when I fitted a DID chain the outer plate needed to be pressed onto the pins

So I had to use the rivet tool to keep the outer plates pressed together at the same time mushrooming the end of the pin...

Fitted new chain & sprockets this morning

bought a530 pitch 110 link Ognibene Gold Chain

and Ognibene sprockets std 15 teeth front and 48 rear.

the rivet pin was a little different than a DID one but i thought I had fitted it ok.

Went out for a test ride and after 20mins thought all was well.
On way home at 50mph bang the rivet link let go...... Should have gone to garage and had it checked....

So pushed bike home 1/2 mile..... very hot today I was drenched when I got home..

the rivet link grabed hold of the top bolt which holds the bearing cover plate (sits behind the front sprocket) and mangled it up it's item 36 on the ajsutton website

see https://www.ajsutton.co.uk/genuineparts/9654/13/yamaha-fzs600-fazer-1998/crankcase?uID=0

It is only tightened up to 10Nm so not holding anything other than the cover plate.

But the casting has been ripped out you can see half the threads with a chunk missing from the left side.

So I am a little unhappy with myself for not doing a propper job.

So need to work out how to fix it and hope I havn't trashed the gearbox or any other internals.

I will try and get a photo loaded at the weekend after I remove the front sprocket...
