Thanks for the replies. However, speaking to a very experienced mechanic,he mentioned the second gear problem as being quite common, and advised me to keep the Fazer,as it was the better bike! (Kinda put me off!)

Had my Foxeye for 4 years now,and it's been great. However, I'm thinking of swapping it for a Thundercat.Does anyone think I shouldn't,and why?

Ten years time things might be electric and gas guzzlers will be outlawed ! :\
Yep,does that mean that the bottom of the"Classic" market will drop out,and I'll be able to pick up a RD 250 for £250 again? 8) !

Don't you think, that with the old fazer you're kinda kicking the trend?

I'm not so sure about this "emerging classic" thing at all.Where I live they're on about creating one of these "Low Emission Zones",and that would kill my Foxeye's value stone dead

Every RD Yam bar the only one with electric start (200).Would have another one if they weren't so chuffing overpriced!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: After Motad

Thanks for the replies, but after closer inspection,I've decided to refurb the originals, cos the consensus seems to be that they're still the best option.

FZS600 Fazer / After Motad
« on: 24 April 2017, 08:33:17 pm »
Now Motad has gone bust what are the decent options for a new exhaust. My Foxeye's is rusted to f**k,but reading through the relevant threads, all the other makes seem a bit ropey.Does anybody have any positive experiences with the other makes?

General / Re: Early Thundercat-five speed 'box?
« on: 31 July 2016, 11:24:01 am »
Worked on plenty and never seen a 5 speed version, a bit strange as the cat is an evolution of the FZR which was a 6 speed and that was an evolution of the FZ which was a 6 speed
To be honest, talking to the guy,he didn't sound as he knew much about the bike at all, which is kind of worrying when you 're thinking of buying it!-Nah,I think I'll give it a miss-spider senses are tingling !(Thundercat in Derby on eBay)

Has anybody here ever heard of early Thundercats having a 5-speed gearbox? I was looking at one on eBay,saw a nice one,so I thought I'd give the chap a ring.During the conversation,he mentioned the bike having a five speed box! Looking at Haynes,it never mentioned a five-speed at all ,only six.Has anyone here ever heard of this,or is the guy pulling me leg! :eek

Air Cooled or LC, air cooled 250s much cheaper than 400s and the same for LCs with the 350s, prices have gone a little mad recently for air cooled though, pop over to the Aircooled RD club site  for more on these http://www.aircooledrdclub.com/
Thanks for the link,mate!

Is it misty-eyed nostalgia, or are two- strokes perceived on another level- are RD's (&GT's etc) looked upon as some long-lost  nirvana of motorcycling, or are we just trying to kid ourselves?

Woould love an old two stroke  again, my first bikes were all two stokes, fs1e, rd250, gt380, and kh250. Bought two rd250s 20 years ago, built one decent out of them both then sold it because I wanted a 400/4.
Keep looking on ebay and the like but the prices asked do not reflect the condition in too many cases.
I know Ebay's a bitch-spotted a1977 bike recently which was purporting to be a '76 to match the paperwork! I'm looking for a RD 250 D,which seem to go for slightly less than the later models, but they're still gonna be min.£3000 for a sound un'-but up to now everyone here seems to have a soft spot for the old two-strokes-simpler times eh?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Loss of tyre pressure

You could always over inflate them by say 3psi and pump them up once a week, wouldn't be the end of the world!
:)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Loss of tyre pressure
« on: 19 April 2016, 05:58:53 pm »
Just a quick update.Spoke to the tyre tech, who told me bring the bike back in.However,he said the wheels were corroded, and also that,if all else fails,he'd consider putting tubes in!-Now that's novel.Has anybody else heard of tubes under tubeless tyres?!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Loss of tyre pressure
« on: 18 April 2016, 07:58:57 pm »
have your tyre fitter remove the tyre, replace the valve, clean up any corrosion on the wheel and then refit the tyre using the bead seal black sealant (like liquid rubber), rebalance your wheel, your problems should be solved, shouldnt cost much at all maybe £10 piss easy job for a tyre fitter. even the likes of ATS or national tyres or bathwick might do it
Yep-deffo going back to the tech to see if he can fix-this time I'm going to ask where any possible corrosion is,and see if it can be addressed.Since yesterday the back tyre lost about 2 psi, front wasn't so bad,but both still losing pressure,so I've no alternative-Thanks for all the useful advice, folks :thumbup
