FZS600 Fazer / Re: New Chain and +1 front sprocket
« on: 12 March 2015, 05:27:22 pm »
Cheers Chris.  No obvious acceleration disappointment no.  I mean you get more of a torque acceleration feel with the higher gearing but it's still fun if you give it some welly.  Only a bit more clutch slip feeding to get going in 1st.

FZS600 Fazer / New Chain and +1 front sprocket
« on: 12 March 2015, 01:29:00 pm »
Decided to treat myself to a new DID X O Ring gold chain and sprocket set but also wanted to try a +1 (16T) front sprocket.
Really impressed with the new gearing and love the smooth feel I have restored with the overhaul.   I cleaned and re greased all the suspension roller bearings  in the linkages and swing arm too, while it was all apart.

before while bombing I mean commuting down the M27, I'd go for another gear only to realise I was in top gear already.  Now it feels just right and can cruise 70-80 without the engine revving it's nuts off.  Far more relaxing.   Also I don't get that awkwardness of wanting to change gear while picking up speed out of a junction or round about.  Can hang on a bit longer before changing up.   Well happy but wish I'd gone to a 16T sooner!

+1 front sprocket recommended!

Also just got bike MOT'd and sailed through.   Excellent!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Lacquer your rear sprocket?
« on: 05 March 2015, 09:57:38 pm »
Decided it was a dumb idea as lacquer would not stick and flake off the new shiny rear sprocket.  Maybe I am OCD.

Anyway while the rear is off and suspension bearings to be lubed up, I got out an old toothbrush and with some gunk I scrubbed off all traces of oil in and around the back wheel and back of the engine.  Which isn't OCD at all. Cough eh hem

Yeah sod it I'll whip off the rear end tomoz for a lube up...  swing arm bearings n linkages etc and sling on the new bits without faff.

FZS600 Fazer / Lacquer your rear sprocket?
« on: 05 March 2015, 08:09:54 pm »
I've just bought a new +1 front and a new rear sprocket along with a spanking new gold chain.

I'm thinking of masking the outer teeth ring then spray lacquering the middle to prevent corrosion.

Is this OCD / waste of time or worth a punt to keep things kinda spangly?

Cheers

Went out on the fazer to machine mart to get a ball joint splitter.  Not been out for a while and felt good.  Took out the delkavic exhaust baffle for extra fun.  Got the splitter home only for it to snap in half when releasing the lower ball joint on me mini. I think I over stressed it.  So back out on fazer for another one.   This time I tensioned the splitter on the joint, then applied blow torch flame on the lower suspension arm to release the joint. Made quite a  BANG when it gave way.
Out n about on fazer, played with spanners and car passed MOT in the end. Enjoyable day really :P

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Cam chain rattle
« on: 01 June 2014, 05:26:33 am »
Did my cam chain last year with an open chain DIY rivet link one.  Most difficult part was finding a cam chain rivet tool.  Ended up improvising  a little with a universal riveter from machinemart. Wasn't ideal but managed (with a bit of patients), to knurl over the posts  securering the link without squeezing it too much creating a tight spot.  ended up fitting and removing the cams several times afterwards, trying to line up the timing marker dots. Kept putting the exhaust cam in one tooth out...that was annoying!!! Was my first time doing it lol  but got there in the end and totally rewarding job once you hear that smooth engine without rattle :-)

What happens if you use 10w40 car oil?  probably like tipping chip fat oil in your engine I spose? Just asking... I've got Halford s 10w40 motorbike in mine.

I had clutch cable snap on a Yamaha Diversion during my Direct Access test +10 yr ago. Shifting down approaching traffic lights hmmmm not a hope lol.

Luckily examiner gave me a lift to collect another bike to complete the test without clutchless gear changes woohoo.

Nice one, you've done a good job by the looks.  Bargain engine too, well done. For 60 notes to swap out a tired engine with a fresher one = no brainer!

Perfect timing too, decent weather here (ish / almost)
