FZS600 Fazer / New Chain and +1 front sprocket
« on: 12 March 2015, 01:29:00 pm »
Decided to treat myself to a new DID X O Ring gold chain and sprocket set but also wanted to try a +1 (16T) front sprocket.
Really impressed with the new gearing and love the smooth feel I have restored with the overhaul.   I cleaned and re greased all the suspension roller bearings  in the linkages and swing arm too, while it was all apart.

before while bombing I mean commuting down the M27, I'd go for another gear only to realise I was in top gear already.  Now it feels just right and can cruise 70-80 without the engine revving it's nuts off.  Far more relaxing.   Also I don't get that awkwardness of wanting to change gear while picking up speed out of a junction or round about.  Can hang on a bit longer before changing up.   Well happy but wish I'd gone to a 16T sooner!

+1 front sprocket recommended!

Also just got bike MOT'd and sailed through.   Excellent!

FZS600 Fazer / Lacquer your rear sprocket?
« on: 05 March 2015, 08:09:54 pm »
I've just bought a new +1 front and a new rear sprocket along with a spanking new gold chain.

I'm thinking of masking the outer teeth ring then spray lacquering the middle to prevent corrosion.

Is this OCD / waste of time or worth a punt to keep things kinda spangly?

Cheers

« on: 05 March 2014, 05:56:59 pm »
Finally got around to installing a couple of 2.5" Xenon M328 HID projector units into my '00 Fazer 600.  Evenings are getting lighter now, so a bit late but never mind it needed doing!

Here's a video of my install which may be of interest to anybody thinking of doing the same mod:

FZS600 Fazer / Fitting my HID Xenon Projectors
« on: 27 February 2014, 07:00:25 pm »
Hi I am about to fit a pair of HID Xenon projector angel eye upgrades to my headlight unit.

Just one thing question to anyone out there who may of done this already......

Where does the white rubbery washer go in the sequence?  Does it go on first then the smaller washer before putting into the housing?

I know the 3 pronged washer is the adaptor plate that clips inplace of the original bulb and the lock washer goes on last, I am just a bit confused where the white one goes and the smaller circular washer.

Just checking before I crack on with it tomorrow, many thanks for any replies.  Will post up photos of the whole sequence of fitting once it's done too.

FZS600 Fazer / Rentec luggage rack install
« on: 08 January 2014, 10:23:45 am »
Just received a rentec luggage rack so I can stop carrying my laptop n lunch box in a rucksack and have ground to a halt on what could be the easiest  of things to fit.
No fixing kit included only a piece of paper saying you should use the original fixings in the grab rail that you take off.
Well the original fixings bolts are too short to go through the rack fixing holes then through the original collet spacers.
So before I get the hack saw out and chop down the collects, what other cunning methods have others done here and what and where did you get the bits to install it? Cheers dudes.

P's looks as if I will need longer bolts even if I cut the collets down as there will only be a couple of threads biting in the captive nut.

What do you get up to other than your Fazer?

I have been building Quadcopters and taking cameras up for aerial video for 2 - 3 years on and off.  Would love to video a motobike riding along a cool cliff top road.

FZS600 Fazer / Tinkering
« on: 14 October 2013, 06:24:31 pm »
On my Fazer 600 yr2000 model that I aquired 2months ago, it really sounds a bit tappety and more than I'd like.  Its done over 40k so I'm considering doing cam chain tensioner and tappets possibly replace the chain too.

What do you reckon is it major surgery for cam chain? Should I just do the tensioner and tappets?

I've rebuilt a few modified A-series engines for minis in my time and have quite a bit of mechanical experience overall plus I have access to tools etc so not scared to open up the fazer motor.

I guess im seeking advice on the subject really and how long should a job like this take? Having not done it before.

At the end of the day I want to reduce the tappety noise

Cheers for any helpful advice

FZS600 Fazer / Worn gear change lever bush HELP
« on: 29 September 2013, 04:45:37 pm »
Hi folks I am looking for advice on how to replace or where I can get a new gear change lever with new bush.

My yr 2000 fzs600 has seen a helluva lot of miles and gear changes and the lever is uber waggly.  Would love it to be as new again.

Is there an off the shelf item I can get non genuine / affordable item or is it down to the local cnc/  machine shop to sort me out?

Cheers
Gav

Ps I've not stripped it yet so maybe the shaft needs replacing too?

Introduction / Hi from Southampton
« on: 21 September 2013, 10:30:44 am »
Hi there.  Have joined now I've got a Fazer 600 to say ello and grab some tips and advice.
I picked up a yr 2000 Fazer a couple of weeks back for 800 notes.. here's a pic

All good and has MOT and tax but it needs some work on the rear suspension.   I've got it all appart and replaced the wheel bearings and now the swing arm is off.
The roller bearings in the swingarm were shot! Lots of play. So have ordered that no probs.

But I am stuck trying to find where I can buy a roller bearing that presses into the silver coloured cast suspension linkage.  You know the silver linkage lump that has the dog bones comming off of it. There is also play in that too.   its just the roller bearing in the fat end that needs replacing.

Can any kind soul point me in the right direction of where I can find this bearing?

Thanks a lot
Gav

Ok back to the gunk can + ripped up bed sheets and cleaning 13yrs of grud off this fine machine :P
