A quick follow up,

Have ordered the bars and risers as well as one of those airhawk inflatable covers for the moment as I can't send the seat off easily.

Ordered new lines from Hel, see other post. So when it all gets  delivered I will see if it makes a difference.

Cheers

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / HEL brakelines
« on: 05 July 2015, 09:11:01 am »
Morning all,

Now I am in no way a representative of HEL products but just thought I would post this in case anyone else is thinking of getting some new lines.

Following on from an earlier post about how to improve the riding position on my FZS I have ordered some new bars and bar risers. These mods mean I will need longer brake lines, after looking online I found venhill and hel do custom lines. There are probably loads more but I rang hel and the guy was really helpful and I settled on a twin long line setup. Then he asked if was a member of any forums or bike clubs so I'm said yes the fazer owners club so he gave me a 25% discount. That means a new stainless brake line kit with all the fittings and postage was less than £45, bargain!

So if you need new lines maybe give hel a call and say you are a fellow foccer to get your discount.

Cheers

Maybe take it for a long run first then see if problem remains.

I once left mine in a cellar from August till February, battery was flat but once going took it on 100 mile run and the next day it was fine.

Only once had a rough running problem at low revs and it was a damp plug.

I too would be interested in the knee bend problem as I am at present looking into getting a set of lower pegs, once, that is, I have fixed the bloody chain adjuster.

Where do you plan on getting yours from, Jez and will you go for the rotating adjustable ones or simple 30mm lower ones?

Thanks for the reply AyJay, unfortunately the bike now has to live outside in communal parking, I had to leave my house with garage and driveway so taking the swingarm off is not really an option. So I guess I will have to very carefully drill out the damn bolt remains and try to tap out a slightly larger hole and fit an 8mm bolt.

This had to happen right when I was about to start altering the seating position with mods suggested by other foccers, hopefully I will still have some funds available to do that.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Chain adjuster snapped!
« on: 20 June 2015, 05:08:19 pm »
Hi all, thought the chain was a bit sloppy so tried to adjust tension this afternoon.

Chain side adjuster was nice and free, but other side did not want to budge. Used lots of wd40 on the thread, got a socket it on it and was gently turning it forward and back when it snapped off.

Anyone else had this happen and if so what did you do to fix it? Even if this has not happened to you, any ideas on how to fix it?

On and how long is the adjuster bolt, the bit that snapped off is about an inch long, if I have to drill out the rest I would like to know how much there is likely to be left in the swingarm.

Cheers in advance.

Thanks for that chaps,

had a quck look at the digger site and it appears i  need to send him the seat so not being in the uk at present that could pose a problem, i wll look into gettng one from a scrappers and getting that sent instead. By the way did you have the seat reprofiled or just highered ?

For the mo will go down the route of lower pegs and the new bars and/or risers.

is it easy to get longer brake lines are there specific companies that do these kind of mods and if i need longer lines it would be just the one from the master cylinder or......?

cheers

« on: 11 June 2015, 12:43:15 pm »
though I suspect the answer maybe qute compleicated!

Hi all,

recently had the chance to try the new tracer. Thought it was a damn good bike but it made me realise just how good the gen1 fazer 1000 really is and mine is bog standard, no mods at all. Unfortunately it also highlighted, for me anyway, that the riding position is getting more and more uncomfortable.

So the question is can you make the riding position similar to the new breed of adventure style bikes i.e. higher seat, lower pegs and bars wider, higher and closer to you?

Will a bar mod involve having to have bespoke throttle, choke and clutch cables made aswell as bespoke brake lines?

I really enjoy riding the fazer on short journeys but anything touring wise has knees neck and shoulders getting very sore after 100 mles or so.

Any ideas fellow fazer fans, also any idea how long Yamaha will continue to supply parts for a bike which the most modern examples of are now 10 years old??

Cheers

Tom

is it a fazer too?
On a trip to france in 2007 or might have been 2005 it was bloody hot even when moving the air was hot and I could hardly grip the bars as I was sweating so much but the bike was fine even in traffic hardly had the fan come on so I would have thought a fazer 1000 could have coped ok with what the uk is enjoying at the mo??

had  a similar esp on a CB500, turned out the regulator was knackered and in turn it had killed the battery by seriously over charging it.
If you have a voltmeter it is easy to check, connect the VM across the battery terminals it should read say 12.7 volts or so with the ign on and then once started about 14 if you rev the bike and the reading goes up more than say 14 or 15 V then the regulator is buggered!

Seriously though don't discount the new GS it is a good bike and I have never ridden such a quiet bike wind wise, and kit has some grunt too

The tanks holds 21 litres of which 4 are the reserve, there is no valve to turn so really the tank holds 21 litres period. I think the reserve idea is when the fuel gauge light comes on. To be honest I have never had to pput in more than 17 litres but then I don't  want to run out cos theres large gaps between fuel stops out here!!

Jusr replaced my pilot road 1's with the 3's and am impressed so far, I'm no corner demon but have got nearer the edge with these than on any previous tyre. Tip in is more pronounced than the 1's but they were a little square so it could just be new tyre-itis but not gone out in the wet yet so only dry impressions so far.

The only that has changed recently is I had Pilot Road 3 tyres fitted so they may have been incorrectly balanced but what bugs me is the tingly vibe is only felt on the right hand side, as the bar is a complete tube surely the vibes will be transmitted to both ends??
I will check the bar end weights again and see if I can alter their mass with lead or the like and if that makes any difference then invest iin heavier ones - any recommendations folks?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Bar vibes
« on: 06 July 2013, 04:42:53 pm »
Hi all,
Took bike out for a run today and started to notice a touch more vibration in the bars than normal. They have always 'vibed' a bit at around 4000 revs or 60ish in top but today I felt there was nore than before BUT only on the throttle side. I wasn't gripping it any harder than normal in fact I gripped the left one hard to see if I could feel anything there but no. It gave me the beginnings of pins and needles.
Any ideas why one side could vibe more than the other  (and the bars are not broken!!)
and how I can remedy the situation???

Cheers

Sounds like the side stand sensor switch is playing up, not sure how your mods could have affected that but that is what I would check, maybe you disconnected it by accident???

On one hand you have the back up of a dealer warranty and the general reliability and build quality of new bikes etc but on the other hand how many heavy handed blokes (or ladies) will have tried wringing the hell out of the bike to see what it can do and after a careful warm up period too........

Right, all of you just stop it now do you hear!!
I can never get over to the UK when Mike is there to work his magic, and I am not about to drill holes in the carbs unless supervised so stop telling me how good your bikes are  :'(
Seriously though enjoy your new bikes now that the warmer weather is here  :)
now if Mike wants to come to France and do my bike that's quite a different story  :b

That RT did sound a bit like a diesel on tickover too, but I bet it was comfy :)
