I've been up to my eye's with work stuff. Hopefully get a look at the bike during the week. The air filter is a K & N, dunno if that makes a difference. It's been in there for years though. It was one of the first things I did to the bike. It could be some crud in the tank I suppose. How can I check that?

Ok, change of plan. The bike is still f**ked! So I finally got out for a run and it cut out, again. I started it up, no backfire this time. I got another 20 miles and gave it some throttle. It cut out. I started it up no problem, and no backfire again. However, there was quite a strong smell of petrol this time. I brought it home at a steady pace and it ran fine all the way. It's only when I try and push on it wants to quit. Honestly, I'm going mental here. I've been working like a beast and when I do eventually get some time off, I don't want to be rolling about the garage floor. I want to be out riding.

Foccers...Assemble!!!

Darrsi is dead right here. It's a bit footery getting the wheel back on right on your own. A third hand/arm would be useful. Take it back off and make sure everything is seated properly. If the lug's are damaged, you can get a replacement easily enough.

Hi guy's. I've a wee update for you.

So I stripped the old coils off and removed the spark plugs. Coil and plug 3 were in a shitty condition. Rust and that white furring all over. The plugs aren't that old, as in changed the service before last (two years and maybe 6000 miles), but the coils look original.

I ordered new iridium plugs and sourced a set of coils in good condition (with the bracket, fuel pump, filter and hoses) from a 17,000 mile bike. My bike is 42,000 so if I get half of the 25,000 difference from them I'll be delighted. I connected everything back up and took it round the block and it seems fine.

The weather is good tomorrow so I'm going to take it for a proper run up to Tyndrum or something. I'm confident that the problem is sorted though, so thank you again foccers. Another Fazer brought back to life 😊 👍

Hi Guys,

I haven't been on here for ages and I feel a bit guilty to start with a question. I've been busy with a new(sh) relationship, touring Europe on the bike, starting a business and planning a wedding, so at least you know I haven't just been sitting on my arse watching porn. I mean, I've been doing that too...Right, so I'm having a problem with my beloved Fazer. She's about 42000 miles now and still looking great. I was out for a run and as I made an overtake the power died on the engine and it cut out. I had to go back behind the car and pull over in an awkward silence. I thumbed the starter and with a mighty backfire it burst in to life. I carried on for about 25-30 miles and everything seemed fine at a steady pace around 6000rpm or so. I gradually built the revs up to a sustained 9000-10000rpm. It stammered and I eased off and then it cut out again. After I came to a stop it started again on the starter with another backfire.

Now the power goes and the engine dies if you try to give it anything like a twist. It sounds fine at idle. The electrics are fine. I put a brand new battery in it last week. It's serviced and hasn't been lying around unused. It j
ust started doing it and now I have lost all confidence in it because the power isn't there when I need it. Any ideas from the foccer massiff?

Hope all you guy's are doing good and enjoying life out there. Thanks

Hi Guy's,

Sorry about that last message/f-up.

No been on for ages, and for good reason. But I already went in to that kind of.

On to the Fazer. So I was out for a run and as I was in the process of an overtake when the power cut out on me. Baws I thought as I watched the car pass on my inside and the driver giving me a friendly gesture. Silent and awkward sums it up best. So I thumbed the starter and it burst in to life with a backfire. I drove on some 25-30 miles at a steady pace and about 6000 rpm. All seemed ok so I stepped it up gradually to 10000 rpm. The the power died and the engine cut out. Again, once I came to a hault, I thumbed the starter and it banged in to life with a backfire.

This is now the theme of the bike. The electrics are good. The engine sounds fine on idle. It is serviced, I fitted a new battery and the bike has been getting used regularly. It seemed to start happening for no reason.

Any ideas foccers? Hope you are all doing well and living life.

I've done a bit of touring and what you are suggesting is not possible as an enjoyable holiday. 200-250 miles per day is MORE than enough. And even at that, you'll want a day off the bike. Making big mile plans is all good and well, until something happens. Example, last year I was going from Nurburg (we'll come to that in a minute) to Bagni Di Lucca in Tuscany. 1400kms. I got to about 600kms and the exhaust collapsed. This took 4hours and 325euro to repair as I was in the middle of nowhere. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but it might. Another time my friend and I took five days to ride to Tuscany via Holland, Belgium, Germany (lake konstance), Austria and the Stelvio Pass before arriving at our destination. It rained very very heavily until we reached Italy. It was miserable. You really have to consider such things.

As an additional point, and not to be a smart arse, if you want to go to the Nuremberg ring (where they tested VW Beetles and shit), that's fine. But it's probably the Nurburgring Nordschleife your talking about, and around 400km separates the two. I've done many laps at the Nurburgring in the car and on the bike over various trips. It's worth remembering that the Nurburgring is a road, not a track. There are laws in place and you should follow them. It's also important to note that you are liable for any accident you cause, which can become very expensive very quickly. Especially if you hit someones supercar. I wouldn't buy tickets for this prior to showing up because it could be raining and you'd have to be an idiot to take your bike out in the rain, or someone might crash just as you arrive and it could be closed for the rest of the day. I've been there before and it was a long wait to find out I'd wasted my money. It was worse for the three bikers and one driver that had just been killed I suppose though.

An 8 day trip I think no more than 1200 miles max. Unless you enjoy endurance riding and grinding out a challenge. But if its a leisure trip, relax and enjoy it.

The battery was changed and upgraded about 300 miles ago and it lives on an optimate. It's currently reading 14.2v. The rear brake has never given me an issue to be honest, but maybe that's lucky.

I like the exhaust on that modded one, but the Gixxer rear end isn't to my taste. Well, not on that bike anyway. I like the shotgun rear on the Tuono, I think it suits the bike well.

Ridiculously comfy bike for what it is.

Why am I selling this again..?  :lol

Don't suppose you would PX it for a RSV?

No.

That would defeat the purpose of a clear out  :rolleyes

No bother Nog. As I said, I want to do the Sprag clutch first anyway mate. It needs changing and I'd feel happier selling it done, especially to a Foccer.

If you want to proceed, PM me and I'll send you my number and we can arrange something.

 :)

I don't know noggy. I don't NEED to sell it, but my early mid-life crisis isn't going to fund itself either.

Given the condition of it and the $$$ that's been spent on it, I'd be thinking £3,500. Less than that and I'd probably keep it TBH.

If your looking for a Tuono, this is the one to buy. I don't mean this model or this colour, I mean this actual bike. It is immaculate and has been loved from the day it rolled out the factory. I looked for ages to find the right one and I had to jump through hoops to get a hold of it.

Hi Guy's,

I'm having a clear out and gauging what the interest in my TUONO would be...

The bike has 14,000 on the clock, FSH, has a HUGE spec list and is ridiculously MINT condition. By that I mean it looks new. DYNOJET stage 3, Aprilia racing wheels, Pirelli tyres, Brembo breaks, braided hoses, full Arrow system, carbon fibre stuff and the list goes on forever.

The Sprag Clutch needs done on it, which I would do prior to selling. It would received an oil and filter change at this time too.

It would break my heart to sell this bike, but if the right offer is there I will.

I will take pictures if there is any interest.

Cheers guys.

For Sale & Wanted / YAMAHA YZF1000 THUNDERACE
« on: 17 April 2016, 06:47:19 pm »
Hi Guy's,
I had this bike for sale a while back, but decided to keep hold of it for a bit longer. The time has come to sell it as my "circumstances" have changed. I had/have it on MCN for £1695 (the AD expired and I need to keep emailing them to renew it :rolleyes ).

At that price it was by far the cheapest one available, and it was one of the nicest ones too. I'm happy to sell it to a fellow foccer for £1500. It's a cracking bike for that money. Here's the info from the AD...

Yamaha YZF 1000 Thunderace 1996 P reg 21,000 miles Just fully serviced V5 present 2 keys Remus full exhaust system with carbon can Braided hoses K & N air filter Loads of work done recently including engine flush, Rad flush, full fluid change (brake, clutch, oil, radiator) full service, wheel bearings changed, carburettors balanced, suspension checked and reset, new shocker, caliper rebuild, new stainless steel fasteners, everything torqued up to Yamaha spec and more. Tyres are good and it's currently on SORN.

I'm in Glasgow. Any Foccer having to travel to view it is welcome to tea/dinner or even a bed for the night if required. Any questions, please get in touch.
