I've got the exact same belly pan on mine.  I took it off at the weekend as it isn't possible to change the oil filter with it on (well you can change it, you just can't get it out!) and while it was off painted the downpipes (the original rusty mild steel ones).  After I'd put them back I looked at it to see if I preferred it with or without.  With......

The 2 lancasters were at Sywell airshow today.
They were supposed to be but were grounded due to the wind so didn't go anywhere today.  Bet that didn't happen in 1944......

As the BBMF is based up in Lincolnshire and I'm just off the A1 at Peterborough, I often see the Lanc with his Hurricane and Spitfire on each wingtip as they fly back home using the A1 to navigate.  That's an impressive sight and sound, looking forward to a pair of Lancs flying over tomorrow, that should sound amazing.  I'll keep my camera handy and see if I can get some decent shots of them as they go over.

Took it for the MoT, passed with only front tyre getting thin and non E marked can as advisories.  Decided to treat it to an oil and filter change then remembered that the belly pan has to come off to get the oil filter out.  So bought some VHT black paint, took the downpipes off, gave them a wire brushing and made them look pretty again.

Sounds more like you've got a stone caught in one of the front calipers rather than a bearing problem.  A bearing problem would cause the front end to go all wobblyexcept when you put the brakes on and the pads acting on the discs on straighten things out.

Looks like the Zumo is taking you down the M11 and across on the A120, whereas Google wants you to go down the A14.  There's not a lot in it I must admit.  I know that from my place to Glasgow is 324 miles having done it quite a few times recently so your first fuel stop is likely to be Scotch Corner.  That's just over 160 miles from Glasgow and then the Peterborough A1(M) services will be a further 160 miles.  After that it's whichever route you choose to take but you'll need to fill up again in or near Harwich.

Looks like we'll be seeing you at the Peterborough services at around 6am next Friday.......

No you won't.  Read Section 172 that I posted a link to.  The law says that you must give the information but does not say in what format or that it must be signed.  The only thing they can summons you for is failing to provide the information or speeding.  Although my experience is that they will try both, it's how clever you are with playing the system as to whether you get let off or not.

If you read the NIP carefully, you'll see that it is actually a Magistrates Courts Act Section 9 statement.  So by filling it in with your details and then signing it, you are sending them a signed statement admitting you committed the offence.  However, as pointed out in the article, there is nothing in law to force you to sign it, only to give the details of the driver/rider (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/172).  Other people have tried sending the requested details in on a letter rather than using the form.  You have complied with the law by giving the details they have requested but not in a form that can be used in court.

However, it can backfire as I found out a few years ago.  I sent my details in as a letter and still got a summons.  In fact I got two, one for failing to provide the information and another for speeding even though they had no evidence of who was riding at the time.  I was found not guilty of failing to provide details as it was obvious that I had (prosecution produced my letter as evidence that I hadn't supplied the information and I produced the same letter as evidence that I had, magistrate took one look at it and dropped the charge) but that was then used as evidence for the speeding charge.  Got 3 points and a £120 quid fine instead of £60 if I had simply rolled over and taken it.  Entertaining way of spending an afternoon though and I was subsequently told by a solicitor that I should have asked for the two charges to be heard separately with the speeding charge (where they had no evidence of who was driving) heard first......

One other point to remember.  Information must be laid before the court within 6 months of the offence (which will result in a summons being sent out within a couple of days).  So if, by slowing things down by not signing, not fully completing the NIP or writing asking for copies of the tape or anything else you can drag it out for over 6 months, then a court case won't happen.  If you do nothing, as happened with Nick, then it will go to court (within the 6 months), you will be found guilty and when you don't pay the fine because you don't know anything about it, a warrant will be issued.  They give you 28 days to send the NIP back in so do it, or any reply to it, on the 27th day.

The coil(s) will always have 2 wires going in and the HT lead coming out.  There will be a permanent 12V on one side of the coil primary and the other side will be pulsed to ground either by points or an ECU of some sort.  The relay goes into the permanent power side of the coil.  The only exception to this was some older Lambrettas and mopeds that used a generator coil to give the power for the ignition and they had a wire from the generator coil to one side of the points (which were insulated from ground), the other side of the points went to the ignition coil primary with the other side of the primary grounded.

To lose 2V there has to be a problem somewhere.  If it was losing 0.1 or 0.2V that could be put down to age but not as much as that.  It might be no more than oxidation on the contacts in the plugs in the loom so unplugging them and plugging them back in again could make a difference.

But one day it will still fail when the internal resistance in the switch, connectors, cable or wherever it is losing the 2V increases until there isn't enough volts available to pull the relay in.  Going through the wiring and finding out where you are dropping the volts would have had the same affect, a nice big fat blue spark, but you would have found the breakdown waiting for the most inconvenient time to happen.

To be honest, given the choice I'd always go for the ban. It'll only be for a week or two & once it's done it's done.  Getting 6 points however only leaves you 6 left to play with for the next 3 years, one unspotted gatso or other slip up & you're going to be tip-toeing around in the knowledge that another minor indiscretion is going to leave you catching the bus for 6 months.  :eek
Totally agree, especially as you're already on 3 points for your previous.  Get 6 points added and you'll need to be so careful for the next 2 and a bit years as 12 points is an automatic ban.  If you can cope without your licence for 14 or 28 days, then you are back on the road with only the 3 points on your licence.

Speed awareness course is only offered in place of the fixed penalty 3 points and £100 fine and for minor overspeeds, not for one that is going to go to court.

One thing that'll never ever stop in Glasgow is folks pullin yer leg.
That was 20 odd years ago when the Gorbals was, allegedly, a no-go area even for the locals.

I was on Glasgow Green during the time trials (forget what day, they've all merged into one!) and seeing how cautious the riders were going over the shiny paved areas around the Peoples Palace, I hate to imagine what it was like for the road race in the torrential rain.  I watched quite a bit while having my lunch in Subway on Sauchiehall Street (as it was just around the corner from my hotel) before heading off the Hampden for the closing ceremony.

I'm not really into any form of sport that doesn't involve an internal combustion engine and don't do walking (that's what the internal combustion engine is for), don't do hills (as I'm from Cambridgeshire where we don't have any), don't do public transport and don't like getting wet.  As I walked bloody miles, up and down some ridiculously steep hills, travelled everywhere by either number 2 bus or the media shuttles and got absolutely soaked more times than I care to remember, I still can't understand why I enjoyed myself so much.  There definitely is something special about Glasgow.

I did see a black Boxeye Fazer parked by Blythswood Square a couple of days ago.  Anyone we know?

I got back home from Glasgow a couple of hours ago after being there on and off since July 12th.  I've been working a 4 days on, 2 days off shift pattern so have clocked up just over 2,700 miles in the last 3 weeks, although not on the bike but in my car.  I've been working with the broadcasters so had Infinity passes to get me everywhere but hardly had time to watch any of the games themselves.  I was at Celtic Park in the pouring rain on the Saturday for the first rehearsal of the opening ceremony and thought it was dire.  I was there again for the real thing and couldn't believe I was watching the same show!  Absolutely brilliant!  I've spent the time learning my way around, I now know the number 2 bus route like the back of my hand and was trapped inside the cycle road race course yesterday (as we were staying at the Novotel on Pitt Street).  I still haven't worked out why they gave the medal to the guy on a pushbike when anyone watching could see that the winner was the motorcycle copper and the bloke on a BMW with a cameraman on the back came second?

The last time I went to Glasgow was about 20 years ago when I did a training course at the Marine College (The Glasgow College of Nautical Studies as it was called then) on Gorbals Road.  When we got there we were told there were only 2 rules.  When going out in the evening do not turn right and once we had obeyed rule 1, do not go out on our own.  There was about 10 of us on the course and we would go out in the evening as a group, walk to the nearest pub, have a few beers and walk back as a group.  I never saw any of the City itself.  After the last 3 weeks I can only say that when they say People make Glasgow, they are absolutely right.  Everyone we met was friendly, willing to chat and so helpful it was untrue.  I feel like an honorary Glaswegian having been make so welcome by everyone.  You can be proud of the City, the people and the organisation.  Despite the errm, changeable, weather, I may even be going back later this month and hope that nothing has changed.
