When entering a roundabout or sharp corner I use rear brake along with a touch of throttle so when accelerating out the chain slack is taken up, then release brake and add more throttle for a smooth ride out.
Who taught you that!
Or are you saying your chain is too slack?

Chain is in spec, I mean the snatch from a closed throttle to just a little, I find this method useful particularly on a wet roundabout.

Mick Doohan after destroying his lower right leg had his team install a rear brake lever on the left bar, for discussion's sake anyway!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: 135mm jack up kit, what ride height?
« on: 14 May 2014, 09:26:08 am »
I thought 130 for R6 shock was for stock ride height. They came with my R6 shock to "correct ride height"
126 dogs raises rear by 20mm  giving your toes a little more cornering clearance at the cost of making the shock feel harder from my experience :nana

Can be a bit slow down here, long way for those waves to travel !
I like the 126's with the 20-22mm rise they give - more for the better look more than anything else  :lol

Hi, I'm 6ft and fitted R6 shock with 126mm (130 for stock height with the R6) centres dog bones which gave a 20-22mm ride height measured from axle.
I noticed the height first time I sat on it and it rides fine.
Switching back to stock then the 126 I prefer the 126's. Raising the forks 8mm made a noticeable diff for faster steering, the diff rear height not so so noticeable to me.

Just got front Yamahas (yet to fit) for a ridiculous bargain. From what I've read about them they are great pads including reviews from members of this site.
Now sourcing rear pads and probably will end up with EBC HH or Goldfren and both can be sourced from ebay for a very reasonable price.(down under that is, bit pricey here)

For now I have EBC HH F + R and had earlier complained about them but since heavier linear rate fork springs installed they respond very well and have given the front brakes a new lease on life and they feel great!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Dyno jet vs Ivan's kit opinions please
« on: 23 March 2014, 11:08:48 am »
I haven't used a Dynot Jet kit but know mine has Ivan's from pulling out one of the needles measuring it and ringing Ivan with it in my hand, he said "yep" its one of mine (thanks Steve the previous owner) can't fault the throttle response, all the surging and other issues supposed to be with the stock carbs I don't have, and plugs great colour, fuel economy is fine, just a tad more that a siz gs500!!  Mine has the air box mod and k&n filter i suppose it's the full monty, i rode a stock FZ1 in Thailand and it still hauled but not as quick once at the 7K plus range, with ivan's it fucking well flies and starts to lift the front wheel in first and you can provoke it to in 2nd.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Ticking sound from left side of engine
« on: 26 February 2014, 11:12:58 am »
Any ticking noise on the left side would have me checking the EXUP for slack cables or other wear.  Even though it may appear that the noise is originating higher up, eliminate the EXUP first.

Is the noise more/less noticeable when the engine is up to working temp?

I did adjust EXUP cables a couple of months ago when hearing a rattle on start up which eliminated it.
The current ticking sound I have only noticed when warmed up so I guess a warmer EXUP could be the cause I guess you are suggesting.
So this weekend an follow up of cable tension will hopefully restore things back to normality.

Stationary at 1.5-3K revs I can hear a ticking sound from the left side of engine, right side is normal.
Could this be noisy valves needing adjustment? thats all I can guess

« on: 16 February 2014, 03:26:46 am »
Does this happen just after you put your feet down thus easing the weight on the bike - not that I'm suggesting that you are unduly large just that there is a reaction to weight change....Newtonian physics and all that.

Raising 1 or 2 seconds after feet down when all else is still. Never done fork oil change could be time to learn how

When pulling up at the lights then releasing front brake lever sometimes a second or two later (stationary) the forks lift up a tad.
My lack of fork knowledge only leaves me guessing  :rolleyes
Gen 1 Thou 72,000kms bought 1 year ago.
Any advice/suggestions appreciated!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Front brake feel
« on: 03 February 2014, 09:34:07 am »
My front brakes running EBC HH's lack feel until a few hard applications, they seem to really need some heat before they give progressive feel.
Pads will need replacing soon and I use my bike for commuting and weekends back road blasted, no track riding.
Should I stick with the HH's or go with another compound that provides better feel without needing heating up so much?

I thing the straight edge method more refers to using a string line and your eye. Long string placed say 4' in front of front tyre then around rear and back to front tyre + the 4' again. Your eye being the measurer.
Sounds bit dodgy but will have a look at it.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/370462095167?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
this clamps to rear sprocket with a rod going forwards along direction of top chain travel, seems logical.
Could be an easier way I think.

24
great advice all will try the straight edge method, however the Left side of my newish front sprocket shows a shine suggesting misalignment I think.. is this common or just nothing to worry about? probably the later
