General / The case of the disappearing picture, Windows 8.1
« on: 11 October 2016, 06:22:40 pm »
 :'(

Need a bit of help please.

This evening I opened up a photo in Photoshop (PS) to make a quick edit. I did the edit but it wouldn't let me save the changes and said I didn't have permission... Hold on a mo... I am the Administrator and was logged on as Admin..

I closed the file in PS without saving and went to the picture in the Windows folder and checked the file properties to see if it was locked... The file was not locked but in the Security tab it said I did not have permission to change anything?

I opened up the picture again no problem and then closed it, went back to check properties and still could not change anything. I hummed for a bit and restarted my puter thinking I'd out whit this box of electronic data and parts.

Then tried again. Still no joy. I then tried to copy and paste the file in windows and a pop up box said I did not have permission... Bollox!

Then the picture icon / file just vanished in front of my eyes  :eek WTF

Doing a search it will find a short cut but is unable to file the original file. It's not in the bin. So my question are:

Where has the file gone and how the fuck can I get it back please?

For Sale & Wanted / Camera Gear for Sale
« on: 29 September 2015, 04:51:09 pm »
Camera Gear for sale. Before it goes on Ebay or Gum Tree.

Camera Gear For Sale Nikon FE. Silver and black body. SRN 4442068 with MD 11 motor drive.
Tested and working. New LR44 batteries fitted in body.
Body is in very good condition. There are a few marks showing signs of ware on the film back (black painted part) but nothing major. Mirror sponge is there but could do with replacing if you wished. £50 (£65 with MD 11)

MD11 Motor Drive shows signs of ware on the black paint and the vinyl on the grip has peeled away slightly. A tiny bit of contact adhesive would fix this. £15

Nikon FE. Silver and black body. SRN 4003233
Tested and working. New LR44 batteries fitted in body.
Body is in very good condition. There are a few marks showing signs of ware on the film back (black painted part) but nothing major. Mirror sponge is there but could do with replacing if you wished. Missing flash sync plug cover. The chrome/nickel coating is slightly rough on the bevel below the film speed dail. A few light scratches on the body base. £45

Nikon FE. Black body. SRN 3373207
For spares or repair. No batteries fitted in body.Body shows signs of ware. Slight dent in front of flash hot shoe where passed sticker is. Missing flash sync plug cover. This body was my main workhorse and worked brilliantly until I lent it to someone and it came back with damaged film rewinder. (Lesson learned... never lend your cameras out). It's missing the a small spring washer that holds the silver winder lever in the away position so this flops about. The small film back release lever is not in the right position though the back can still be opened by releasing the lever and lifting the rewind knob. Film transport glitchy. When you apply pressure to transport film it sort of jams. When you release the pressure and then wind again it releases and the film can be wound on. The film transport works with okay with MD11 motor drive . £10

Nikon Nikkor 50mm F1.8 AI with lens hood and caps.

Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows light signs of ware. Focus ring is smooth and aperture is snappy. Fitted with Astron 1A 52mm filter, 52-55mm filter step up ring and 55mm steel lens hood. Comes with filters. See below. This is a very, very sharp lens and I'll be sad to see this go. It's sharper than the Nikkor F1.4. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance.
Filters55mm Hunter. Graduated purple, 6pt star factor, Portrait soft focus, Portrait soft spot, Orange, Warm tone UV, Hoya 80A. £50

Nikon*ED IF 300mm F4.5 SRN 228189 AI-S with lens lens caps (not Nikon branded).

Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of ware. Focus ring is smooth and aperture is snappy. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance. The lens is fitted with a Canon tripod mount.
£100

Kiron 70-210 F4 Macro Kino Precision with zoom lock. SRN 25929096 with original lens caps.
Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of ware. Focus ring and zoom is smooth and aperture is snappy. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance. This is an excellent lens. Very, very sharp and very underated. Read reviews about this lens. The lens hood has been broken but a very good, effective repair has been made. There is also a very small dent on the lens barrel that I noticed when taking the photos of it (shown). £20

Tamron SP Mirror 500mm F8 Tele Macro BBAR MC 55BB Fitted with Nikon fit Adaptall 2 AI-S.
Fitted Hoya 82mm skylight 1B filter. Custom made carbon fibre lens cap the fits the front of the lens hood and Nikon rear cap. Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of minimal ware (lens has hardly been used). Focus ring is smooth. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance... and I'm only saying this to cover my ass. This lens is clean IMO.
£100

Tamron 35-70mm CF Macro BBAR MC fitted with Nikon fit Adaptal AI-S
Now I need to say something about this lens because it's part of the package. Read on. Best used as a paper weight if you still use paper in your office. Don't point at the light and take photos. This lens has more glare than a father watching his daughter going out on her first date with a the boy that has “HATE” tattood on his forehead. Fitted with Hoya 58 Skylight 1B filter. Filter has a scratch but I don't care as it doesn't fit any other lens I own. Tested and working (see links to test shots and other pictures of the lens). Shows signs of ware. Why anyone would want to use it heaven knows. Focus ring and zoom is smooth and aperture is snappy. The glass is in excellent condition with no scratches or fungus. There are a few minor dust specs in the lens that won't effect performance. Performance is said tongue in cheek. I reckon this is the worst lens I've ever used on a camera it has the worst zoom focus mechanism that I've ever used. I'm chucking this in for FREE as I wouldn't save me any money on postage if I left it out the box... I don't want it. However, it fills a space in the flight case and looks good until you take it out and realise what you have in your hand.
FREE

General / Computer related
« on: 28 July 2015, 10:33:27 pm »
To the Focer font of knowledge.

I'm in the process of putting a website together. All has been okay until this morning.

The problem is only on one desktop computer.

The site has some drop down menus when you hover over tabs with the mouse. The drop down menus work OK on two other PC laptops, a Mac, tablet and several smart phones. Of the ones that work I've tried different browser and all is working fine.

The problem is just on one PC that was working OK until this morning.

I've deleted browsing history, cookies, caches, and all the other tick box stuff you can delete, swapped mice, tried different browsers (Internet explorer and Firefox). Re-installed browsers but still can't get the drop downs to work.

The drop downs work on other sites and on the website editor/builder I'm using so I don't think it's web related as such plus I can work on the site from other PC's etc, publish the site and get it to work on other computers. Just can't seem to get it to work on this PC since this morning.

This is the site www.trackart.co.uk

The drop downs are on the tabs Canvas Prints, Photo Prints, and Original Art For Sale.

Any techs got any suggetions. Or let me know if they are not working on your browser.

Cheers KK  :'(

General / Email probs (POP3)
« on: 23 July 2014, 11:08:04 am »
One for the techies and the Foccer font of knowledge.

Having probs with my email since moving over to BT.

I have a POP3 account/URL with personal email adrianbarnard AT trackart DOT co DOT uk.

First of all I was not able to send mail because outgoing SMTP was set up for talktalk but I could receive mail. Spoke to very helpful technical bod at BT who talked me through set up for BT... Sorted or so I thought.

Now I can send but incoming mail is throwing up this message most of the time (see below). It looks like AGV email anti virus is scanning mail but I don't get mail. If restart my laptop I will then sometimes get mail, or they may take a hole day and then they sometimes come through without restarting. Tried speaking to BT again, several times, some say incoming settings are ok and others who I can barely understand don't seem to have a clue.

Error message reads:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.hostedemail.com', Server: 'mail.hostedemail.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '+OK 230346 octets', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Other error message that pops up from the bottom of the screen reads:

AGV email scanner unable to receive because content is unknown. See online help

I've checked on UK2.net and Hosted mail if there are any server problems.

AGV email anti virus help pointed me here:

http://www.avg.com/gb-en/faq.num-4447

Will these settings work with BT or will I get my knickers in a twist even further?

Is there anybody out there who can help or even understand what this jargon is or what's going on?

Cheers AD

Went to demo some machinery to a man called Robert Dunlop, Not 'the Robert Dunlop, he's dead, but a relation which got us talking. Some of you may know that one of the many pies that I used to have my fingers in was the design of race graphics for cars and bikes... Robert Dunlop's Crossan race bike being on them.

Anyway Robert runs a company called Final Lap http://www.finallap.net/Default.aspx

This place is a museum of F1 and motorsport. I spent over an hour talking to him and riffling through bits on a job that should have taken 10 minutes.

Rubens Barrichello Ferrari lid.

Row upon row of race suits.

Odd body panels

By far the biggest collection of this sort of memorabilia I've ever seen.  :eek

My buyer had his house survey done today on my property.

My wife says he was walking about with a light beam pointing randomly at walls, standing across the road and shinning it at the front door, roof and walls.

My Mrs said it didn't look like one of those devices for measuring room dimensions.

Any idea what it's for or what he was doing?

Had a throttle cable jam open on saturday night. Scared my daughter more than me but the shock is just starting to sink in. Looks like the open cable has a fryed strand down by the throttle body and in turn got fowled in the cable outer causing the jam. Manages to free it up but for a brief moment i had trouble closing the throttle. Please check yours though not heard this happening on any fazer before. Think i've been unlucky as my choke cable went the same was.
