Always new there was an XJ400L learner special but never realised they had a Fazer 400 version. Most likely you have the only one outside Japan

Sounds like a piece of metal in the pilot system from the Ivanising modification. If misfire/splutter is one cylinder then it is most likely carb related. Swap the coils and plug cas and see it it changes. If it does its plug caps if not its the pilot circuit. When you had the carbs off did you remove the pilot screws and blow out the orifices? Somebody on the forum had this problem and posted it some time ago

The problem with this mod with 1.6 ohm coils is that if you parallel them you double the current flow through the power transistor in the CDI and if you put them in series you will only have 6volts per coil and less current. Standard Coil is 1.87 to 2.53 ohms primary resistance Starndard coils operate at about 6 amps "Parallel" could burn out the CDI (12 volts 12 amps) "Series" will give a very weak spark. (6 volts and 3 amps) You would need Stick coils with a primary resistance of about 3 ohms to be safe as this would give the about the same current flow.

These are the best for a pernament repair, it is a patch and a plug in one. It is the Minicombi Patch plug as Robby boy stated Needs to have the tyre remover to do it and balanced afterwards. I have a packet of these Stop and Go plugs under the seat as a get me home and they are almost as good as the minicombi

It appears to have a lot of the xjr400 front. Notice the speedo cable from the front wheel. Any parts which start with 4HM are from the XJR400, The front wheel and discs for the fazer 400 and 600 are the same as the XJR400

Christo, Whereas I also agree with the comment from His Dudenesses, The general consensus among all these posts if that for you own safety you need to get some rider instruction or advice from really good safe riders. Remember anyone can ride fast but the really good riders stop fast and to become a really good rider, first you need to be still alive. Whereas you appear to be able to ride you do not appear to be able to read the road. Sometimes accident shit happens, (my own a few months ago) but in your case a little to often which appears to point to rider inexperience. I was hospitalised by motorcycle/car accidents twice in my first 3 years of riding over 40 years ago and even though they were not my fault a more experienced rider could possibly have avoided them. Why? simply because they would not have the trust I had in drivers and expected them to obey the rules of the road.

It really sounds like you lack experience and have the wrong attitude, if you cannot exercise control and the ability to read the conditions on 33 bhp then you will have serious problems on anything above it. I have said it on previous posts, buy a trail bike and do some off roading. This does two thing, teaches control and how to read the conditions. I thought both my sons to ride off road and how to read the conditions first. When they began riding on the road they at least knew how to read the conditions. Both of them have had minor road accidents and have learned from them and when we discussed them they discovered they were caused by lack of concentration and complacency. Reading your accounts it appears to be the same and you have not read the conditions. I am glad you are not hurt, but if you continue like this, without the benefit of advice from experienced riders or training I really fear for your life. Believe me I speak from the experience of someone who came off his bike at 20mph and went under the wheels of an Artic truck which was driving behind me. The fact I am alive and can still walk has surprised many, me included.

Check for air leaks then check the valve clearances and balance the carburettors
