Change out the instrument cluster lighting with LED's, much brighter.

Check they work before reassembly, if any are not working, remove and turn it 180 degrees in the holder.

I read somewhere, that person who invented the smart motorway system has said the problem with them is the government has cut out too much out of the system to save money.

Biker groups want the banned because they are not monitored by computer (with back up systems) but by a human, who can take up to 45 minutes to notice a broken down vehicle, or other issues, and then update the warning signs (or switch them off when the issue has cleared).

Another great waste of tax payers money  :'(

I was going to pull the pin and retire next September at 62, but looks like I will have to try and cling on a bit longer to weather the coming storm  :rolleyes

Was hoping to get a good few years of touring and sight seeing on my bikes, before they ban them. But looks like we are going back 100+ years, work until you drop to keep the robber barons happy.

When the engine backfires it can send fuel backwards into the airbox, which can then run down into the crankcase through the breather hose.

Before pulling the carbs and following Unfazed good advice, I would pull the airbox cover and have a look. Also remove the plug caps (they unscrew) trim back all the plug leads about 1cm and refit or fit new ones.

Pull the spark plugs and turn the engine over to remove any excess unburnt fuel.

Good luck.

I think the Gen 2 wheels fit with a little bit of fettling.

I did look at this about 10 years ago but never bothered, so can't confirm one way or the other.

I also seem to remember Devilsyam (RIP) telling me that to fit the R1 rear wheel you need to have a disc made up to fit.

Have you been through the Gen 1 FAQ sticky on this forum?

Hopefully someone will come along soon and give you the proper information.

Have you tried Wemoto or ebay? I know SAMCO do Silicon hose kits and hose clamp kits for the FZS1000

Why not use alloy wheel paint, you can get it in all sorts of colours and it is easy to find and use.

A can of the colour you want and a can of matching lacquer can be had for about a tenner and will do both wheels.

Available at local motor factors, eBay etc. something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/E-Tech-Professional-Alloy-Wheel-SILVER-PAINT-LACQUER-400ml-Aerosol-Cans/183999708107?hash=item2ad73cbbcb:g:exEAAOSw0UddqZPb

I have used it loads of times when I used to do up bikes for a hobby and its an easy value add to smarten up the wheels.

sure someone could come up with something similar for the fazer...... they want 65 quid for this ktm one..... a bit steep i think

I an sure I have seen/read that the early R1 clutch arm fits and because it is longer it gives more leverage

Thinking of having a weeks spin around northern Spain and the Picos at the end of this month, any one got any experience of bike friendly hotels (secure parking etc), within walking distance of bars and food etc, in the area?

Cheers in advance

Hi mate, I still have mine but I am working in Saudi, so not much help I am afraid.

If you had asked a couple of weeks ago, when I was home,  I could have sent you the standard lights to play with.

I still have mine, about 26K now. Mike you ivanised it twice, once at my house then a few years later you did the full monty (I think at old sons place)

I still like the two tone black and silver storm (skunk colour, or should that be color  :lol )

I have a 1290 SuperDuke GT for summer touring now, so Fazer is for sunny day fun

I have had it three times on the right side of my face and twice on the left, which is apparently very rare. Mine has been bought on by an allergic reaction or a cold draught.

If the have you on the anti virals and steroids you should see an improvement in a few days to a few weeks. As said it can take 3-4 months to fully recover, though you may always have some deficit.

Tape your eye shut at night or wear a patch to stop damage to your eye, rubbing your eye on your pillow as you sleep.

Take care eating that you don't bite the inside of your mouth or tongue. And drinking can cause issues with a floppy mouth.

You get used to it after a few weeks and can normally go back to work.

You should also get physio for the face, which also speeds recovery up.

There is a side effect for the steroids, they made me fat, well fatter.  :rollin

Good luck and take it easy.

Silver tech is the light silver and silver storm is the darker bluey grey.

The colour code in on the bike, either the label on the frame just before the headstock or under the seat

General / Re: Important: Check the wording of your breakdown cover
« on: 23 August 2018, 02:32:33 pm »
I can understand the logic of RAC and AA not doing accident recovery as they provide a breakdown cover, same with recovery that comes with a new bike.

But insurance company provided recovery should include accident recovery surely?

I am with Bennetts so thanks for the heads up.

Rear view, a few inches wider than the bars.

I also have the E21 panniers which are about half as wide, but  don't have a picture fitted

Where abouts are you in the country?

For both sets of panniers, the rack, side carriers (with locks) and adapter plate I would want £200 (The rack and side plates alone are that)

I have a set up on my Gen 1 I will be selling soon, if anyone is interested.

SW Motech Alu rack with side carriers (quick release, so no metal on bike when not needed) with mountings for GIVI panniers.

Alu rack adaptor plate with GIVI fittings for GIVI top box (keeping my V46 top box)

Pair of 21L GIVI top opening panniers (great for a long weekend/traveling light)

Pair of E42 GIVI Panniers (the ones with extra top opening to get small items out like spare gloves etc)

Can send photos in a few days (away with work just now)

Sorry chaps the pictures are showing to me, they are on photobucket, do you have the photobucket fix/extention for your browser

There is a how to pinned in general forum.

If not I can email them to anyone who is interested, but as I say not home until late June

The smaller (recommended) pannier pictures are on my phone.

The smaller panniers are great for a long weekend away, the bigger ones for longer trips or two people kit.
