Had an old 88" S2 landie aka the pope mobile
Absolute hoot, everybody loved it turning up at the pub with 10 people in it, coppers just shaking their heads.
Sadly made the Saab look economical.

We have an aero 2.0 rag top.
Check the cd player works properly.
Rear subframe corrosion, handbrake issues, rag top fit and water repellantcy.
Ours is a thirsty beast and is quite heavy. 4k for a pre facelift model is a lot of money.

You'd be better off putting up a picture of the bike. I know what silver tech looks like, no idea on the codes though.
Or you could go to fowlers parts online and see what code they give silver tech on their parts catalogue

If you think you have the competence to do the work, then go for it. Hardest part of the job is getting the carbs back on!
Instructions are on pats pages and I'm sure Mike could be persuaded to offer some salient advice as well.
Apart from the drilling of the airholes, it is all straight forward.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Starter delay
« on: 30 August 2018, 10:10:53 am »
Don't use the bike much these days, but went to start her up other day, pressed the start button........nothing. then all of a sudden she span over and started.
Wondering if this was a fluke, did it again, and again, and again.
There is a good 5s delay when you press the start button. I can hear the relay energise straight away, but doesn't send any power to the starter for a bit.
So what do we reckon then?

Also had reasonable success with Plastech. Had it years and it still works with it being a 2 part liquid / powder
That's the stuff, pour the powder into the gap then add the liquid.

I used plastex for a split/break from rear of headlight.
Did it 3 years ago and no problems at all.

Don't start cutting spacers.
Phone k tech and tell them that they've sent you the wrong items. ( if they have)
The spring rates are engraved on one end, check that too!
Mine came with different numbers of coils in each spring!

Did you bleed the damping rod when you 're assembled the forks?
As has been mentioned, measure the spring lengths as k tech do have a reputation for getting things wrong.
Once you have checked the obvious get back to us😉

For Sale & Wanted / Re: 2003 FZS1000 for sale
« on: 01 August 2018, 04:16:06 pm »
May help if you re-do all the details on here? I put the e bay number in and it doesn't come up with the listing anymore.
..........and release an extra 20bhp with no further engine mods

Oh really!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with sale, but keep it factual please😂😂😂😂😂😂

Can you remember what your ore load was set to. I'm running the same springs with 5w oil.

My $0.02.
From memory 10w oil is too thick.
I ran 9.5 springs with 2.5/5w mix. Rebound was on max and compression was backed right off to 3 or 4 clicks.
Everybody who rode it always said it was compliant.
The standard forks upgraded are reasonably useful bits of kit, but take a bit of time to set up.
I take it you mean pre load.
Preload only sets the ride height (sag) on your forks so is subjective to each rider.
However I had my forks dropped 15mm and 25mm of sag. Really getting on the brakes (stoppie) would leave @ 20mm of fork travel left. Hth

As Mike has already shared his wisdom, thread closed!
Hardest bit of the whole job is carbs off and on again.

In addition to the fazer that is.
5jj r1 forks
5pw yokes
5vy master cylinder
R6 shock
4xv quill can
Zzr1100 braided hoses
Gsxr 750 fork springs
Gsxr 600 footrest plates

Buy a 4/5mm drill from an engineering shop. (Forest Fastners eh ogri)
Nice and slowly does it, then either retap or easy out the old bolts. Stainless bolts and coppaslip. Loosen them once a year and no more problems.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: R1 forks set up / adjustments
« on: 11 July 2018, 01:22:28 pm »
Std dry weight for r1 is 390lbs
Fazer is 458lbs
Expecting to be able to swap forks over without any mods is incredibly optimistic.
Spring rate, then damping.
I forget which model of gsxr 750 it is (iirc it's the k1-3, but don't quote me), but with a 10mm spacer the std spring is ideal for the r1 forks and plenty out there cheap.
Take my advice or leave it, but remember I used to spanner for Jim Moodie and earned a living from translating rider talk to engineering solutions.

Until you get your spring rate correct you are pissing into the wind. Standard 4xv springs are .7xxkg/mm. After 20 years they'll be a lot softer. I'd suggest between .8 & .9kg/mm max depending on riding style. After that you can mess about with the damping.

We did the b500/oppenau years back and got the usual flashes from the locals and sure enough the german police were hiding under a crash barrier with the speed gun. Rode on steady for a mile then back up to warp speed.

General / Re: Airbox MOD Idea
« on: 09 July 2018, 02:29:12 pm »
Spannered for a bloke with a full v&m tuned fzr400. That came with a ram air system. A car brake scoop was shoved through the rad and 2 flexi hoses fed up over the cam cover into the bottom of the airbox. The original air intake was blocked off.
I surmised that from all the leaks and hot air floating about it was a complete pos.
We isolated the rad bars so no hot air was entering from the rad, then insulated the pipes from the motor and finally sealed the airbox feeds with mastic.
Original power runs were 69, after airbox mods and 're jetting as per RMD spec it went to 74.
Also had an R1 with QUB ram air box...........took 2 days of dyno work to get it running right.
Moral of the story is don't foc with it unless you REALLY know what you're doing!

None is the answer.
In Germany the owner of the vehicle is liable for all infractions. Great if it's a company liveried vehicle, not so good for herman if it's a private overseas vehicle  as our law is different and we have to nominate who the driver was. Mis match of laws screws up cross border revenue chasing, unless you travel to germany regularly, where zey vill be vaiting at ze checkpoint mit ein panzer
