General / Re: Ice tag
« on: 19 October 2015, 06:42:28 pm »
Unless it's physically on you (dog tags, medic alert bracelet, etc) there are always scenarios where you won't know who the tags relate to. Lids with stickers could be borrowed. Tags on keys in the ignition, if you come across a rider and pillion in a single vehicle accident, how do you know who the rider was? I am a volunteer first responder for the ambulance service and in most incidents, managing the ABC's doesn't  rely on knowing any allergy information/blood types/emergency contact information. We deal with the incident presented to us and act according the patients clinical need. Additional information such as ICE would usually only be put to use once the patient was stable and in/en route to hospital.

Is this the same or cheaper copy?

It's the same one, but by the time you've paid duty & VAT, it's back up to around £1,100. Plus delivery is quoted as 7-20 days. Ordered mine through Amazon as a package deal with a case and spare battery and it arrived next day.

Just got a quote through from my current insurer, Bennetts. Will go online, see what's cheaper, then challenge Bennetts to match or beat it.

If insurance companies won't automatically reduce your premium, no reason to be loyal to one or t'other. Got an SP30 to add now though, but bet I can at least pay no more than last time.

And an accident Nick.....unless your not putting a claim in for your banana skin bike  :lol

Nope, no accidents  ;)

Not as simple as that now. Since the law changed and the onus is now on the insurance companies asking questions, instead of relying on honest disclosure, they've tightened up some of the questions.

Claims wording from Bennetts now reads - Have you had or caused any accidents, claims, losses, incidents or damage in any vehicle during the past 3 years whether or not a claim was made and regardless of blame?

Assuming the police attended the incident, there will be a record of the accident accessible to the insurers, potentially invalidating your insurance if you don't declare it.

Took part in the Scunny Bikers Egg run, about 150 bikes and trikes and about 1,000 eggs on a tour round the town and the supermarkets (to collect more eggs!) before heading up to the local hospital to deliver them to the children's ward. Eldest daughter came with me and was a bit unnerved the first couple of times were marshalled through red lights  :lol

It was previously 40 and 50mph. The change in law is supposed to prevent drivers making dangerous overtakes out of frustration and also to reflect the advances in braking technology.

General / HGV warning
« on: 06 April 2015, 05:47:55 pm »
Just a quick heads up for those that may not be aware.

From today (6 April 2015) HGV's can now do 50mph on single carriageways and 60mph on dual carriageways. Be aware that a gap you may previously have pulled out in could be closing much faster than before.

I went for Tasker.

Not heard of Tasker before, but now installed and got a few profiles set up.

If a new sim is inserted in my phone, it now texts my wife with the new number, GPS co-ordinates and emails me a picture of who turned on the phone. With the new number, I can text the phone to obtain updates on GPS location and when near the phone, can text it to turn the volume up and start making some noise.

Looking forward to playing with it further and exploring the other plug-in apps for it.

Thanks for the app suggestion  :)

Update
Got a phone call from the police to say a guy at the other end of the village has found my bike hidden in his garden.
Went round expecting the worst to find no damage at all to the bike, not even a smashed ignition barrel, although the padlock and chain are still missing.
Honestly thought I was never gonna see it again, as was our eldest daughter who I reckon was more gutted about it going missing than I was. (She still reckons it's her bike and I'm just looking after it for her!!)
 :) :) :)
