Now that's a true representation of how a biker should be, and not the 'shiny biker' you see boasting at the bike cafe's in his creaky leathers and tyres sporting 2" chicken strips! Well found.  8)

There's various 'experts' on the Tiger forum that state a few different things. All I know is that the suspension is tourtastic soft. They should have put a stiffer spring on it from the start really, but its not a sport bike, so that's why they did it. Some fit the spring off a blackbird, the practitioners say its great but the so called guru's say no don't do it. Hard to know who's right really :\

Gave her a bit of a deep clean today with it being nice weather, and took a few piccies whilst I was at it.
Here she is 'naked' with no top box and muffs

And a view from the pilots position

Well I'm not in a great rush to sell the Tiger, as its such a good bike and ok for me at the mo. Just waiting to see if a deal emerges. I've resisted the eBay temptation for now and Just got her up on a couple of forums. I'm just hanging on as there will be a Fazer thou owner at some time that needs a change, and will be tempted by the big jungle moggy. I'll regret selling her in some ways, but ill be back where I want to be, riding an EXUP again :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: tyres
« on: 21 November 2012, 02:21:05 pm »
I always used bt020 and the later models on my R1, they were always superb. My little Fazer 600 has had MAXIS Supermax for the last year. They're cheap and I can easily edge them both sides in the dry. In the wet they're predictable and I've only managed to get them to let go once, and that took some provoking! A superb tyre that I would recommend any day of the year for the little Fazer !

I thought that it would wreck the handling too, but loads of them have done it, and all have said its either not changed the handling, or improved it slightly. Must be with the bike being quite tall to start with. I've heard some of the guys talking about scraping the pegs, but I think its just forum bravado :lol I know I can't do it, and I rate myself as a fairly quick rider!

There's guys on the Tiger forum who are short in the leg who have lowered theirs by an inch and a half with only a positive effect on the handling. I was thinking of lowering mine, even though I don't need to, just for the better handling.

Yeah I've done all the power mods, and the bike is really quick! It's quite deceptive speed due to being tall and torquey. I can just keep up with my brother in law on his mille in a straight line, and it punches out of corners better than a 4 pot, but mines about 15bhp down on a Fazer, so as you say, she runs out of steam in comparison. I've also changed the riding position with a set of Renthals. It certainly helps with me being a bit on the lanky side. Very comfy though. :lol

Thanks sadlonelygit, I know where to come when I want something reviewed! :'(
Gotta admit, the Tiger's not for everyone. But it is better than the Fazer at long distance, it's comfier and it's low speed car park-esq handling is far superior. It's not as sporty as the Fazer, but big torque is delivered from 2k revs, far lower than the Yam 4 pot. Other than that, it does pretty much the same as the Fazer, it's just a bit bigger, and not as sporty.
It's a long distance touring/adventure bike that can still boogie when you ask it too. It's more for the mature gent that wants easy overtakes without changing gear whilst on a ride around the world. Not really for your rev-head knee scraper like me :rolleyes

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted FZS 1000, P/X tiger 1050
« on: 15 November 2012, 06:47:20 pm »
Bought my 07 Tiger 1050 two months ago, and I've more than likely bought the wrong bike! I can't put my finger on it, but I just can't gel with it. Still too much of a sportsbike lad at heart :rolleyes I've always wanted a Fazer thou, and I'd take one as a P/X for the Tiger if anyone fancies a tipple on a triple.
It's in virtually the same blue as the Fazer with 22,000miles. Unfortunately no service history due to the bike being a cat D earlier this year. (headlight, right panel and nosecone damaged) Repaired to a high standard, By looking, you wouldn't know if I didn't tell you! I wouldn't buy a lemon, and I definately wouldn't sell one, especially on here, i'd get lynched! I just simply don't get on with this bike :\
Recently serviced by me, and I can say that since I bought it, hasn't used a drop of oil, unlike some Tigers. No bangs, clonks, ticks, or farts, just that throaty triple
Loads of extras which are negotiable with what bike is offered to me. Currently running a decat, K&N, airbox mod, Fuel road legal exhaust, and a custom map bringing power in the region of 125+bhp, and 70+lb torque. I'ts like a litre v-twin torque, but smooth! There's also engine bars, and a 45litre Givi monolock top box/rack, scottoiler, and Renthal bars fitted. All original parts available
This bike stands me at over £4k with all the extras. I'll start at £3600 basic bike, and what your Fazer thou is offered. This is the cheapest Tiger you'll find, and I'm putting it on here first before evilbay.
Don't be scared about the cat D bit, I've had 3 of these in the past, including two of my FZS 600's. As long as they're rebuilt well, there's no problem. (most cat D's are purely cosmetic damage)
Oh yeah, I'm in Blackpool in case anyone's interested. :)

General / Re: muffs.............
« on: 15 November 2012, 05:18:45 pm »
I fit mine every year..... Toasty hands ! Fit the muffs as normal, and put your hand in and grip the bar when your sat on the bike. When comfy, make a mark on the muff where it sits closest to the bar end. Just put a hole in the end of the muff, and put your bar end through it with a big washer if you have one. It's really easy to do, and helps stops the buggers putting the front brake on over 80mph  :eek
Just make sure the right hand muff doesn't snag on the throttle when you open it!

Well I've just ridden the fazer against the tiger. Two different machines doing a very similar job in my eyes. The Fazer trumps the tiger on power, handling and fun factor. The tiger is taller, far comfier, and has more torque lower down (2k revs!!!)
The Fazer was like putting on a pair of comfy slippers akin to my old R1. Loved it! Bars are awful, and the wind protection over 80 was poor, even with a double bubble on. The tiger is no doubt the better tourer, but I don't really go touring any more!
For me and how I ride, the Fazer is a winner. :D
If your after a very comfy, increadibly torquey tiger for touring, mines up for sale/px Fazer..... And its cheap!

Wow Falcon, she's pretty. I'll be modding mine a little like that more than likely.  :)

2944
It was the need also for an all rounder that could carry the other 1/2 easily, my fzs600 struggled a little with full luggage and the missus. (just don't tell her that  ;)
I appreciate that the big Fazer is no sports bike compared to my last steed, but its closer than the Tiger, albeit it'll need a few mods like a shock and ivans. The Tiger needs a new shock, so it would be money already spent in my eyes. I'll weigh up the pros/cons tomorrow when I ride this one.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Another returning to the fold........ hopefully.
« on: 14 November 2012, 12:31:37 pm »
Sorry about the lack of introduction guys, been a lurker for a good while :o
Just been reading Bloy182's post, and I'm currently making a the same decision as him with moving to the Fazer thou from a newer bike, and I'm completely tied :look .
Been an FZS600 owner for 10 years on and off owning 3 gen 1's loving every mile on them doing nearly 100k miles between them. I built a 4XV R1 streetfighter and ran it as my commuter/toy for 7 years and just parted with it 2 months ago. It broke my heart!

I bought a Triumph Tiger 1050 in my attempt to grow up a bit (40year old :rolleyes ) and also to keep my licence :eek  I was also 'edging' a 190 tyre road riding on a regular basis which got a bit silly to be honest.
I've tuned the Tiger to about 125bhp/75lb+ torque, and it flies! But there's just something missing that I can't put my finger on it. It's comfy beyond my expectations, LOADS of torque, and now lots of power. Handlings a bit suspect, but that's a trait of the bike! :eek  I craved for a Fazer thou when I first saw them, and built the R1 as a 'substitute'. Kind of regretting my purchase of the Tiger really, wanting the EXUP thrill once again.
Never ridden a Fazer thou (gen 1), but I'm going to have a go on one tomorrow with a bit of luck. Rode an FZ1 a couple of years ago, and it was no better than my Streetfighter, so I kept the R1 then.
So if anyone wants an 07 Blue Tiger1050................ ;)

She's a never ending project. Had her for about 5 1/2 years and slowly changed her to what she is now. I've recently got a colour coded rear seat cowl and taken the Baglux cover off. Just got the wheels to re-paint/polish up, then she's pretty much done..........for now!

I'd love a wavy disk set up and maybe the later 5 spoke wheels, but can't throw much more money at her, as she's just a toy. Goes well though! :evil

General / Re: Need to vent re fog lights
« on: 01 February 2012, 10:12:36 am »
Probably going to get a lot of stick for this, but ho-hum. :rolleyes

The cops are doing their bit to stop these 'numpties' from using fog/spot/bright lights, as it well and truly pisses me off getting blinded by them. Fog lights are a nightmare because they point at the side/center of the road normally about 6-10 feet in front of the car so you can see where it is in the fog.  (This is why there is no beam test for them on the MOT)

The cops ARE stopping these people for using fog lights, but you have to give them a bit of credit, as the normal 'beat bobby's' are on their way to probably a more serious job, and haven't got the time to stop motorists.

The traffic/motorway cops will happily give anyone a ticket for fog lights, as it's a quick 5 minute job.  You have to remember that a cop seeing front fog lights is normally heading towards the offending car, and has to turn around and 'drive at speed' in order to catch it. It's fraught with danger for the cop as if an accident occurs he is well in the sh1t and could lose his job!  :eek  All for front fog lights........

Most people that are stopped say "Ididn't know", or "I wondered what that dash light was!!" Idiots!!

As you may or may not have worked out by now, yes I'm a cop and damn proud of it :bobby ! And yes I do stop people for using fog lights. When stopped I ask them "Why do you not have your wipers on?" To which they normally say "It's not raining" A sarcastic "Why do you have your fogs on then" follows. They never have an answer for that one!

Please fel free to hurl any abuse my way, I'm well and truly used to it!  :lol

« on: 22 January 2012, 01:02:50 pm »
Hi Guys.
Another newbie to the forum.  :D  Been using the forum for a while for tips about my Fazer, thought I'd better join up and introduce myself.

As you have just read, I own a Fazer, she's a 600 mk1, and my second Fazer now, first being about 8 or so years ago. I also own a home built R1 streetfighter. The Fazer's for work covering 40+ miles per day, and the R1 comes out for the sunny days. :rolleyes

I was an engineer in the Army for 17 years, and just play with the engineering as a hobby now with a carreer elsewhere. If it has an engine, i'll play with it/tune it/tweak it or blow it up trying to improve it!

So Hi to everyone, and the first virtual rounds on me, so what you having? :)
