What crickleymal said above.

While you have the front up, check the fork bushes as well. Mine are worn and I get a knock as you say. Also the front feels a little light...

My £170 Qualcast has the same Briggs and Stratton 450 e series engine in it as my neighbours £420 Atco mower....

Coming along nicely. Maybe could do with a splash of gold towards the rear to balance the colour out a bit?

I run 32/42 psi. Pressures should also be checked cold not after being ridden to a filling station. Although it could be just at the end of your road for all I know!
The only time that I experienced what you are describing was caused by a cheap front tyre, had 1000 miles on in when I bought the bike. Changed front and rear for pr3s and the 'wobble' went away.

A question that must surely stand alongside the all time greats like, which came first,

Here is an interesting theory:

Under 'normal breaking' first apply the rear brake gently, this will transfer weight forward increasing the available grip of the front tyre. Then apply the front brake for the main braking phase. Then easing off of the front and applying the rear again to level the bike before entering a corner.

I was always taught the 70/30 ratio thing, and remember backing off the rear brake adjuster on my H100 before the test to stop the rear locking on the emergency stop!

Many years ago I printed out a label with my blood type and other info on it and stuck it to my lid. I was chatting to a police biker (he stopped where we were parked up "just to say hi") He said the sticker was a good idea, but medics may not pay too much attention to it as the helmet could have been borrowed from somebody else.
I wonder if the same view would be taken for emergency contact information?
Not saying the ICE tag is a bad idea, just wondering what info the emergency services need (to be sure they are calling the right family) before they make a phone call.

"I have told you before about posting nude selfies on the internet."

Thanks dear.

« on: 05 October 2015, 04:07:28 pm »
Hi all,

I have had a search but can't find a definitive answer:

Does anybody know if SV650S 2011 fork springs will fit in FZS600 forks? I understand that spacers will have to be adjusted, wondering about diameters really.

Any help will be great.

Many thanks.

Somebody tried to kill me in my car a couple of years ago. Would have succeeded if I was on the bike. I was able to claim for everything that was damaged, including all of my CDs that were trodden on when they cut the roof off, even my underpants from when they cut my clothes off! Just remember though, the more that is claimed the more everybodys insurance goes up next year to recover the costs of false claims. Some people take it a little too far. Did that salmon that you had in your back pack get damaged? ;)
Glad you are ok though, never nice to hear of these things.

General / Undecided about my front and rear.
« on: 01 October 2015, 10:02:34 am »
Hi all,

Over the coming winter months, when I wimp out of riding in the cold, I will be rrying out a few mods on the 600.
Not wanting to spend all of my allowance in one go, I will be doing half the bike this year and half next year.
What I want to know is, is it better to do the emulators and springs up front or R6 shock at the rear first?
Which one would give the biggest benefit to handling?

The bike is a 2000 model and has done 15000 miles.

My last bike was a 1978 GS550 cruiser, so the current Fazer suspension is fantastic as far as I'm concerned! I had a 13 year break from riding after my GS so I really have nothing to compare the Fazers suspension to.

Any advice is welcome.

I have this one, but took the battery out because the alarm bit is crap.

No matter what one you have, all they have to do is break the disc with a nice big bar. Or just throw the bike in a van, as has already been said.

The reason I like this one is that it is a nice big deterrent for the opportunist thief.

I have recently fitted PR3s to my 600. Superb grip in the dry and wet. Others who have switched to them have said the same.
PR4s are even better, so I have been told. The wet grip is outstanding.
Dual compound, with the harder centre compound for your motorway runs.
Cannot comment on mileage yet as I have only covered about 1000 miles on them.
