General / Re: Handlebar Lock

To be honest anything is better than nothing but a big arse chain locked an immovable object is always best. Any sort of steering or disc lock is only gonna stop opportunist thieves. If someone really wants it they can just lift it into a van..... unless it's locked to something

I did think about a chain but the problem is storing it on the bike.  I get the bike next week so will have to work it out then.  I never ever locked my Fazer.  Just steering lock in town.
Thanks for the advice.

Lock has anyone ever  used a handlebar lock?  Are they any good and can you recommend the best one.  It for use on MT-03. Being a small bike it would be easier to steal.  Any advice welcome.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: 24k Service
« on: 06 January 2018, 01:37:28 pm »
In my young days I would have done them myself. Now the back is playing up. Also last month whilst in Thailand, I decided to hire a scooter. Managed to hit a stationary car! The brakes let me down. Wife was in hospital there for 8 days. She is not happy that I ride a bike. I've been riding since 1988. So in two minds whether to sell the bike. Don't want to stop riding but my left hand hurts a lot. So thinking of getting something smaller and lighter. Like 300_400 cc

Thank you all for taking time and replying. I had the service done by an independent garage. £425 including MOT. Six exhaust  valves needed adjusting. Yamaha wanted £650 plus cost of shims. Another wanted £60 extra for brake fluid and coolant change.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / 24k Service
« on: 02 January 2018, 03:49:10 pm »
My bike I'd due 24k service. Been quoted just under £500 because according to them it needs a valve clearance service. Is that necessary? Your opinions and expertise please... Thanks

Hiya fella,

I've bought and fitted these to my boxeye and they make a hell of a diffence. Will get a pic up asap.

Used a fuse tap to link into a switched circuit on the bike http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pc-Add-A-Circuit-Mini-Blade-Fuse-Splice-Holder-ATM-APM-Piggy-Back-Fuses-Tap-12V-/151973106702?hash=item23624d940e:g:3HQAAOSw3ydV5lbw

I've bolted them straight to the top bolt of the radiator side plate. I know what you're thinking but a damaged rad is the least of my worries if the bike goes down hard.

Thank you very much... I'll get them

Has any one fitted spot lights on FZ8. I want to fit them. Wonder if it would be okay to fit on the side plates of the radiator.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Battery
« on: 03 February 2017, 06:39:48 pm »

If it is an Optimate 4 Dual Program model it is suitable for charging the AGM batteries

I emailed the company and this is the reply I got:

Thank you for your enquiry. All OptiMate lead acid chargers including the original from 1995 are suitable for charging AGM batteries

The AGM equivalent of the YTZ10S will be fine, just a little more expensive. Much less prone to vibration issue, but its biggest advantage is its lower discharge rate when idle for long periods.

The AGM type motorcycle battery needs a regulated voltage between 14 and 14.8 volts when charging on the bike and the FZ8 is well within this range

Be sure to use the correct type of off the bike charger to charge AGM batteries if you have to charge it at any stage.

Thank you very much for the info. At the moment I've been using optimate 4 charger. I'll have to consider getting another charger.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: Battery
« on: 02 February 2017, 06:21:28 pm »
I've had problem with it since I bought the bike. It sometimes hesitated to start. The supplying dealer did the checks and said the battery was okay. It lasted 3 years. Last week it refused to start. The engine turned but did not fire. According to the breakdown man it was the battery. He said that the electronics were not getting the voltage to fire the engine. He put jump leads on the battery and after about 10-15 tries it started. He said the plugs were wet so it took longer to start.
I since realise that the battery is MF. I have ordered an AGM battery battery. It is a YUASA battery same as the original. I presume it should be okay.
Any advice very much appreciated.
Thanks

The time has come for me to replace my battery. The original battery is a YUASA YTZ10S. Should I replace with the same one or is there a higher power battery I can get. And also can I fit a MF battery.

Just had Michelin Pilot Road 3 fitted and what a difference it's made to the handling. Find out how good they are after riding them in the wet. Meantime thanks to all for your advice.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / What tyres to fit
« on: 20 August 2015, 04:39:20 pm »
Time has come for me to fit new tyres on my FZ8. I mostly do motorway riding about 40 miles a day. No racing or extreme speed. Been quoted £309 for Pirelli Angel GT by dealers.....that is too much for them. Another place quoted £265 for Michelin 4 gt and 235 for the 3.
Any opinions?
