General / Short clutch lever and Dupuytren's.
« on: 24 February 2023, 12:40:41 pm »
I have OEM brake and clutch levers fitted to my FZS600 and my FZS1000. For some years I have suffered with Dupuytren's disease, affecting fingers in both hands and have had two procedures to straighten them. My left little finger is bending in towards the palm to the extent that it is causing issues operating the clutch. The lever butts up against it. Whilst awaiting surgery I am considering fitting a short lever to alleviate this issue. My concern is how much harder will it be to pull the lever in with the shorter leverage ?

General / Breakdown recovery during Covid-19 restrictions
« on: 21 June 2020, 11:42:43 am »
Living in Wales I have not been able to ride further than five miles from home during the lockdown. The First Minister has announced that from Monday July 6th unrestricted travel will be allowed, so long as the Covid-19 situation does not deteriorate. In the letters section of MCN this week a contributor has stated that he had a puncture 250 miles from home and called out the AA. Fortunately the AA operative was able to fix the puncture but stated that had it not been repairable he could have taken the bike to a chosen destination but not the rider. The rider cannot get in the cab of either the van or a low loader, so where is the bike taken, and of course the rider is left stranded miles from home. Some breakdown services talk of taxis and hire cars but as a non driver this is not an option for me. 99% of my riding is done alone, so I can't even ride pillion to get home. I had not thought about the issue until I read the letter, but as things stand I wont feel comfortable riding again from July 6th. The prospect of being stranded is a real worry.

General / Average speed cameras on ' Evo triangle ', North Wales.
« on: 06 April 2019, 08:19:43 am »
A heads up to all who intend visiting North Wales roads this year. The ' Evo triangle ' is made up of sections of the A5, B4501, and the A543 in the Cerrigydrudion and Pentrefoelas areas of Conwy and Denbighshire. The cameras have been installed on the A543 near the Sportsmans Arms on Denbigh Moors - found to be the most dangerous stretch of the route. The system is currently being tested and is set to go live in coming weeks, meanwhile GoSafe speed vans will maintain a presence in the area.

General / Average speed cameras in North Wales
« on: 25 January 2018, 02:10:49 pm »
Work started yesterday to install average speed cameras on an 11 mile stretch of the A5104 which runs between Pontblyddyn and Corwen. Work will be completed by February. I think that the 11 mile stretch they are referring to is between Llandegla and Corwen. There have been four fatal crashes and eighteen serious incidents in the past three years. This move follows other trials, such as cutting the speed limit, which have not delivered the expected results. I use this road two or three times a week. It used to be mostly a 60 mph road, then the limit was reduced to 50 mph. There are GoSafe detector vans regularly in attendance.
Anyway, take care everybody as I am sure that a lot of you will be using this stretch of road on your trips into North Wales.

To add to my other two Fazers, I bought this last week. It is to use throughout the winter months.2000 model, 30,000 miles on the clock, cosmetic damage, has fallen on the left side. Runs well enough. Done about 300 miles so far.

My wife and I support our local hospice, Nightingale House, Wrexham. The above ride starts in Llangollen at 10am, registration will open at 8-30am, then Horseshoe Pass, Corwen, Bala, Trawsfynydd, Dolgellau, Bala, Corwen, A5 back to Llangollen. Total distance of 100 miles. Marshals will be riding with you. Expect to return to Llangollen around 4pm. Calfon Prysor Centre at Trawsfynydd will be open for food and drink. If any foccers are within riding distance of Llangollen it would be great if you could find the time to support this ride.

                                            Many thanks, Mike

General / Bennett fracture
« on: 30 May 2016, 01:17:17 pm »
Two weeks ago I had an off, sustaining leg, rib and hand injuries. I had surgery to a displaced intra-articular fracture to the first metacarpal, right thumb, when K-wires were inserted. The surgeon told me that it was a serious injury and that I may not be able to ride a motorcycle again, which I'm pretty upset about. She said that my range of motion and grip strength will be greatly diminished. Have any fellow foccers suffered this injury ? If so, I would be very pleased to hear of your experiences, particularly the outcome after the months of physiotherapy to come, and how it has affected your ability to ride a motorbike.

Introduction / Good afternoon from North Wales
« on: 10 May 2013, 04:42:23 pm »
I have recently purchased an 05 FZS 1000 after much deliberation. The information available on this site answered every question that I had and I knew what to expect. It has lived up to and exceeded all my expectations. It really is a wonderful all rounder.
I am an old git (in my 60's), who potters about enjoying the scenery with a slightly younger old git on an FZ6. My first machine was a BSA Sunbeam 250 scooter over 40 years ago, then a DT175 MX, a Yamaha XJ600 for the past 24 years.
