I have had the motad venom header pipe from ebay £130
they have been on the bike for about a year,
when I fitted these originally all the brackets etc lined up as they should however I did find that the centre stand rubbed slightly when being operated,
I could probably have  ignored it, however I took the stand off and filed a little metal off the stand,
job done it does not affect the stand in any way
I am currently using these headers with a pipe worx end can and link pipe all seems o.k to me, on the link pipe there is a bracket for the centre stand to rest against when in the up position, the rubber grommet on the stand does not line up dead centre of the bracket, I don't know if this is due to the motad headers or the pipe worx link pipe

I cannot remember if I used the motad headers with the original silencer so cannot comment on how these line up

i had a black one of these 600cc paid £10 for it,
i did get it running and had a little ride around on it but i didn't like it at all so sold it ,
issues i had.
the exhaust headers were completely rotten and i was unable to get secondhand ones - so i adapted some from an rf600 - not a very good idea and i wouldn't recommend it,
calipers seized - normal rebuild process
every bolt on the fairing seemed to be a different size.
all bolts seemed to be made of choclate,
good luck and enjoy

when using the 2 nut method as described above also try screwing the bolt in then out and soaking with penetrating fluid
if you have no luck and before you shear the bolt off flush you could try my method below it sounds like a bodge but has worked in the past.
the biggest problem with drilling out a bolt/stud is keeping things straight and drilling down the middle so heres my bodge.
get 1 m6 sleeve nut or stud connector nut or what ever you want to call it, basically its a long nut approx 15-20mm long,
now find a brake cable adjuster from a bicycle these are m6 thread with a 3mm hole down the middle
now buy a GOOD quality 3mm drill bit .
now you are ready to attack the stud
screw the nut onto the broken stud, screw the brake adjuster into the stud, now drill take it easy and apply cutting oil/lube
with any luck you will now have a 3mm hole down the middle of the stud
you can now use larger drill bits until you get close to 4.8mm ( the thread tapping size for M6)
if you get really luck you maybe able to pull/pick the old stud out of the engine case with out damaging the thread in the case
hope this makes sense

For Sale & Wanted / Re: wanted: Rear brake caliper fzs600 - 2000 Model
« on: 28 August 2012, 05:39:48 pm »

i agree dont waste your money
i am very happy with my trx caliper and caliper hanger conversion bolts straight on make sure you use the trx brake hose as it is a little longer than the original

Why bother Replacing one crap caliper with another?

Fit a 2001-2005 rear Fazer100 caliper, or one from a TRX850 / YZF750. All much, much better designs & fit with minmum modification.

simular for me
the centre stand foot operating bit is very close to the gear change linkage.
Hi

With the Ducati rearsets fitted have you pushed the bike off the centerstand.
I seem to recall the lever that you put your foot on when operating the centerstand with my mod fitted came quite close to the footrest
and the Ducati ones look a lot further back and may clash with the centerstand foot lever.

i have just made a set of these myself
i used different dimensions.
basically new hole centres are back 15mm and up 20mm. and for my short legs they feel pretty good
i used 1 of these and a 6mm bolt with the head cut off to extend the gear change rod

still have 9 left if anyone wants one

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Flat Drag bars? Will they fit?
« on: 04 July 2012, 04:46:32 pm »
any chance of a picture of the bars and where did you get them from
thanks Andy
Brilliant right up till the clutch cable gets involved.  :D  Now i will explain. In my quest to find handlebars that didn't give me back ache i tried several different types, drag bars included. when i fitted the drag bars all was great then my clutch cable broke. I got another cable which was different it had a metal tube at the lever end. I took it back along with my old one and was told my old one was a bodge and the new one was correct. so i fitted the new one only to find that with the drag bars the cable bashed the clocks and restricted right hand lock. As my bike is not streetfightered this was a problem. I ended up with black renthal style bars this has stopped my back pain and the bike handles great. Hope my tale of woe is helpfull

i gave a centre stand and some fixings to someone on here a few weeks ago
i think he already had a centre stand but wanted to modify the one i gave him.
so in theory he should have a spare set of springs and 1 fixing bolt
trouble is i cannot remember his username

mine is a 2002 and requires pushing up with my foot.
my guess is the oval bracket that the spring attaches to is around the wrong way.
i have tried to include a link to a parts diagram . you are looking for part 4 or 7

if the replacement linkage has the 3 fixing points simular to the trx one then you should be able to use a longer shock possibly with a lighter spring.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: rear shock again more ideas
« on: 16 June 2012, 09:17:54 pm »
the trx was just an example it was more to illistrate that the 3 fixing points on the trx are more in a straight line where as the fazer ones are closer to a right angled triangle

FZS600 Fazer / rear shock again more ideas
« on: 16 June 2012, 08:55:41 pm »
as some of you may know from earlier posts i had a shock rebuild done by a chap in scotland
i have to say that it was real good to start with and still a lot better than the old one, but me being me i am always wondering if there is a cheap alternative.
so this is where you clever sods come in especially kebab.
my theories so far
the rear shock on a fazer 600 is 300mm eye to eye and according to the hagon web site is the same as the xj900s diversion and xvs1100 both using the same spring rate. the xj900 i dont think has a suspension linkage and the xvs1100 is a far heavier bike.
so this makes me think that yamaha cocked up the aluminium linkage bracket on the fazer so it needed a far heavier spring than should be needed for a bike of this weight.
having scanned ebay and looked at a lot of other linkages the relationship of the 3 pivot points look different to those on the fazer.
so in theory a different shock with different linkage block and different length dog bones should give the same overall effect.
now the question is which one - look at these links to see what i mean
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-Yamaha-TRX850-Rear-Suspension-Shock-Linkage-/110897722826?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item19d204f5ca
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-FZS-600-Fazer-rear-shock-linkage-dog-bone-/150457237037?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2307f33e2d
this would then mean you could use a longer shock
your thoughts please

Thanks for the info.
mt stand was cracked and twisted a little when in use i got a cheap ebay replacement
i found exactly the same my stand slightly rubbed my new stainless headers but a little filing and it clears fine.

did mine without removing radiator,
as already stated bit fiddly to get to a couple of bolts but i think i just used a 1/4 drive socket and extn bar.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: rear shock advice please fazer 600 2002
« on: 04 April 2012, 10:26:30 pm »
a bit of an update,
i have had the original shock rebuild by a chap called Hans who was recommended to me by Fazbaz,
it took two weeks in total from the time i took it to the post office until i got it back and refitted it.so i cannot complain about that. £70 inc p&p i could have had the spring powder coated any colour i liked for an extra £10 but i did not think it needed it
so the main thing is does it work?
1st impression after a 10 minute ride is yes,   tommorrow i plan to have a ride to a couple of places that have some large dips in the road and see how it feels then.
After that the next plan is to service the forks

thanks Baz you have an email  this is going to be my prefered option at the moment however
Kebab could you take a couple more measurements please
can you measure the width of the swinging arm where it attaches to the frame and also the distance from the centre of the swinging arm pivot point to the centre of the wheel spindle slot to see how it will affect the wheelbase.

thanks in advance
