General / Battery losing voltage = dead?
« on: 09 April 2020, 10:20:36 am »
Hi Guys,

Looking for some more sage advice, I have a little '91 SR125 that I'm doing up gradually but I think the battery is stuffed!

If I charge it on low using the car battery charger, it charges fine up to about 12.9v, then drops down to about 12.65v, which I believe is normal? However, it then dropped to 12.54v after a couple of days, and now (after about 5 days) it's at 12.32v; it has just been sat on the workbench during this time, so there's been no draw on it.

Does this mean the battery's completely stuffed, or would connecting it to a "smart" charger possibly bring it back to life? (I have an Oximiser on order as I needed a new one anyway)

I've tried looking around on the site and the web in general but can only find info about parasitic draws, which clearly isn't the issue unless the spiders have been using it overnight!

General / COVID MOT extension - clarification
« on: 30 March 2020, 10:07:36 am »
Good morning all, hope you're all ok.

I was just wondering if anyone knew any more about the 6 month extension to MOTS (as below)? Mine's due May 2nd, so will be extended to November 2nd, but does this mean that when I get my MOT done (e.g. in October) it will run from November 2020 to November 2021, or will it be that no matter when it's done it resets to May 2nd? Not the biggest issue I know, but I can't seem to find any information on this.

Hope that makes sense!

FZS600 Fazer / Headlight reflector thingy
« on: 12 November 2019, 02:31:15 pm »
Hi all,

I noticed last night while doing some other bits and pieces to the bike that the cone/reflector/cover thing that sits over the dip beam bulb in the headlight has is pointing downwards as the top mount has broken off completely!

I know I've seen someone on here talking about removing it, but I can't find the post because I can't remember what the cone/reflector/cover thing is called!

So, is it necessary and needs repairing?

Should I just remove it? If so, how?

And of course, What's it called????

Thanks in advance  :)

FZS600 Fazer / LED Spotlight confusion
« on: 20 December 2018, 10:46:09 am »
Hi Guys,

Bit of a mystery one, I recently fitted a pair of LED spotlights to my Fazer (make a big difference, so thanks to all the others who posted about them).

Buuuuut, they come on randomly when they're turned off; sometimes one (it changes which one) just lights up very dimly, sometimes it's an intermittent flashing (at various speeds). If i flick the switch on and off, it stops but then comes back a while later.

I don't understand how this is happening, I know that LEDs draw so little power that it's unlikely to be issue, especially as I ride the bike every day so it doesn't have a chance to discharge the whole battery.

I've wired direct to battery with an inline fuse, and a switch on the handlebar, nothing fancy but it does the job.

Any ideas as to what the issue could be? Has anyone else experienced this?

General / SR125 Coil advice?
« on: 07 November 2018, 09:28:37 am »
Hi guys, hoping for a little advice about my 2nd bike, a '91 Yamaha SR125 that I've picked up for cheap so I don't drop my Fazer when riding in the ice and snow.

It doesn't run currently and the problem seems to be the coil (way off spec according to the Haynes). All the replacements I can find online have "12v CM11 50" on the side, whereas mine has "12v CM11 55".

As far as I understand it (which isn't well), the 50/55 bit relates to the distance between the posts where it mounts to the frame? The only other difference I can see is that the "50" ones have bullet connectors, whereas mine has a 2 pin connector.

I know I can file the mounting bracket to fit, and change the connection on the loom to bullets, but I don't want to do that if it's not going to work!

Any advice? (example below of the "50" type)

FZS600 Fazer / Preload adjusters different heights?
« on: 04 June 2018, 02:46:15 pm »
Hi,

Probably a stupid question, but...

I've just had both fork stanchions replaced and the garaged fitted preload adjusters (it didn't have those before), I've noticed they (the adjusters) are at different heights, is this normal/ok?

Part of me thinks they should be identical, another bit of my brain think it's because they've been individually adjusted to allow for the fact that the old springs/internals have been re-used and might be worn differently?

Is this worth worrying about? Or does it not actually matter at all? I'm not a total stranger to mechanics, but forks aren't something I've ever played with before.

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: 2001 FZS600 fork stanchion
« on: 17 April 2018, 02:29:53 pm »
Hi Guys,

Just scraped through my Fazer's first MOT with a warning that my left fork is slightly bent (enough to pull under braking, but not enough to affect riding, hence scraping through).

Does anyone have a single (straight, naturally) stanchion that will fit a 2001 FZS 600?

Cheers.
