Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Tail section removal procedure?
« on: 03 July 2022, 08:04:41 pm »
When I removed my rear mudguard for a tail tidy it was just a matter of disconnecting the indicators and number plate light and removing the 4 12mm bolts and the whole plastic assembly dropped down and the cables pulled through a hole. However someone had been in there before I think to make it easier as I understand Yamaha hid those connectors at the factory. Does this video help...

I have a spare tail tidy you are welcome to for collection from Gloucestershire or Banbury where I work or I can post it at cost. (Had to buy a different one to allow for a givi rack)

General / Re: what did you do with your fazer today ?
« on: 24 June 2022, 09:12:24 pm »
Not exactly today, but two rides, one on Tuesday and the other yesterday.

I'd gone down to Croyde for a few days surfing on Monday, but I take the quick route down (M27, M3, A34, A303) because that saves energy for the waves :)

On Tuesday, however, the swell had dropped, so, instead of going out for a dawnie, I went for a nice ride up the A39 through Lynton and Lynmouth with some nice twisty roads, then back across Exmoor for 100 miles of fun.

On the way back on Thursday, I used some lovely little back roads I'd found which run parallel to the A361 and the A30, thus avoiding the traffic and being able to make a bit of progress  ;) along the way.

That route takes a bit longer, however it's much more enjoyable :thumbup

Where do you hire your boards from? I used to work in 'le sport' in Croyde many moons ago...

« on: 14 June 2022, 09:57:35 am »
You'd be better off getting a bikini fairing or fly screen. Not sure the n model would have the mounting points for the subframe and you would probably need to extend the wiring loom

I rode to Marseille and back about 5 years ago, spirited and on the motorways on the way back as we spent an extra day messing about in the alps...I didn't realise those little pillars were speed cameras until I got home...ooops. nothing ever came of it though...

My gen2 has always had a little vertical play felt when lifting the wheel on centrestand since I got it at 10k miles but has never flagged up at MOT time.

I read a few posts where people had replaced them only to find it's no better. I always thought I'd wait for it to get worse but 12k miles later it's still the same. I've had it apart to regrease and re torque but that made no difference. I'd be interested to know if your new bearings eliminate it completely.

For Sale & Wanted / FZ1 Evotech tail tidy Sold
« on: 19 February 2022, 11:14:08 am »
Evotech tail tidy for gen 2 fz1. Mine is a Fazer s version but I assume it probably fits the naked (please check) I took it off ages ago as it doesn't fit with a givi rack without fiddling about so just went back to stock. You can use your OEM indicators or get adaptor plates to fit aftermarket for a few quid. The numberplate light plugs straight in to existing loom. £30 plus postage or free collection from Cheltenham or Banbury during work hours.

For Sale & Wanted / XJ6F diversion for sale - now sold
« on: 18 January 2022, 06:52:28 pm »
17k miles, recent service less than 500 miles ago, can put a new mot on with sale (expires in April but done less than 100 miles since the last one) comes with heated grips and centrestand, only one previous owner, owned by my girlfriend for the last 9 years, totally original and unmolested,  everything works as it should. Spare key and magic red key. Just not getting used so it's going towards a caravan upgrade...

£2995 but open to sensible offers. Bike is based in Cheltenham (UK despite my regrettable username)

Although I'll get  refund (allegedly) I'm still paying 40% more than my premium cost in September, got everyone by bollocks really and they knows it.

Now I'm over my rage as above the UK company are a separate broker and presumably they are using different underwriters. Still pissed off with the company though as I can't get a quote anywhere near what my original policy was as it's too close to the expiry date to get the best deal!

General / Anyone with MCE?
« on: 11 January 2022, 09:25:24 pm »
Just got an email from MCE telling me my policy will no longer be valid after 31st Jan as they are in administration, which is at odds to what they said originally (policies will remain until renewal) it also basically says if you want a refund you are probably going to have to fight for it, which is a bit shit as mine expires in September.

Ironically a quick MCN comparison search puts MCE as the best quote, so if you are in the market for insurance steer clear of them!

For Sale & Wanted / Re: Price opinions?
« on: 18 March 2021, 02:05:02 pm »
I picked my tidy low mileage 2008 up last spring for £3500, i got the seller down from £4k so I think you are in the right ballpark.

A few years ago (pre divorce) it was a toss up between a tracer and tiger sport 1050. I went for the tiger sport and loved it, took me from Banbury to Marseille in two days. Would have another no problem. I didn't ride the tracer but thought it seemed a bit small in the flesh.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Coolant level
« on: 10 March 2021, 08:29:19 am »
Thanks Gnasher for your reply.

I have checked again this morning and the level in the tank is a little below halfway between low and full. The rad is still full.

I will keep an eye on it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Coolant level
« on: 09 March 2021, 07:50:16 pm »
Hi foccers. Got home from work on my gen2 today and about a minute after parking up it spat some coolant out of the overflow coming from the expansion tank, about a 1/2 pint. The bike didnt overheat on the ride.

The level on the bottle has always been at the full mark when cold since i flushed the system and refilled with coolant last July. The level now sits about half way between low and full when cold, and the radiator is still full to the top.

I know some bikes don't like the level being at the max like my old vfr which always sat on the minimum line, but I don't understand why its only decided this now about 2k miles later?

I ran her up again and got both fans working at 100 degrees, the stat seems to open at around 77 as the temp drops down to 70 before building back up. I took her out again and all seems normal. Im thinking possible dodgy stat?

Used to get this a lot on a divvy 900, mayo in the oil window, going a few miles to and from work, a long blast down the a34 would burn it off. Never saw anything untoward on oil changes.

Hope I am not tempting fate here but its one advantage of being anal about cleaning your bike and you get very personal and intimate  :eek with every nut and bolt and hopefully you spot things like that straight away.  Good that you heard it though. If I do some major work on my bike I like to ride for a while without my earplugs in so I can hear if anything if not right.

Took my gen 2 for the first time since autumn and when cleaning it down noticed my RHS upper engine bolt was loose and the crash bung flapping about. Never been off in my ownership. All engine bolts were then retorqued to spec (the rest seemed fine)

General / Levers
« on: 10 February 2021, 03:48:29 pm »
Hi, my FZ1 came with some gold foldable aftermarket levers, I've just changed back to OEM purely because I don't like the colour. The levers always fitted ok and look well made but is there any way to tell if they are cheap Chinese copies or a reputable make like pazzo?

I only ask as this would determine their value to sell them on.

Cheers
