Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Aftermarket Handlebars on the Gen II
« on: 24 June 2019, 08:35:46 am »
Hello Foccers!

It's been a while!

So after years of putting it off due to varying degrees of information about how complicated/successful it might be, I finally changed the bars on my FZ1-N for something a bit higher and a bit wider.

As part of my desperate attempts to help the world at large, I made a video of the whole drawn out, knuckle scraping, head scratching, bike dismantling process!

https://youtu.be/0tL64UX4ti0

It's a bit of a long one, but then the job was far more of a monster than expected! Maybe get yourself a coffee before you start!  :lol

I also changed the brake lines before I started for some braided lines that are about 5cm longer than stock.

The video for that endeavour is here:

https://youtu.be/QFQLR1QlF8w

Looking forward to hearing about what I did wrong/right and what you folks think of it.

Ultimately I'm really happy and the bike is now FAR more comfortable for my wrists, shoulders and spine! It's easier than ever to smash it into the tight twisties with a bit of countersteer.

Also the cockpit area now looks far neater, with all the cables and wires now nestling nicely together.

Cheers!

Andy.

Introduction / Sooo, I'm back!
« on: 27 September 2017, 03:55:58 pm »
Hey folks!

But of a re-introduction here. After a spell trying out the darkside on a Kwak Versys 650, I'm finally coming back to the family!

Put the dosh down on a very clean FZ1-N this week which I'll be picking up after a well deserved holiday. Excited doesn't even begin to cover it. In fact I'll probably hate every minute of this holiday knowing that the bike will be ready for collection from tomorrow! #FirstWorldProblems

Needless to say, I've been busily reading up on Ivanisation, sub throttle flies modding, PC5 etc... Though to start I'll just be enjoying that lovely smooth online four after my time on the buzzy twin.

Looking forward to chewing the fat again,  although rideouts will be tough as I'm living over in Hamburg now.

On a sidenote, how do i go about changing my username or at least my display name? The Andymancam YouTube channel is really growing so I'd like to keep 'on brand'! ;P

Anyway,  huzzah and hello!

Andy.

Hello chaps!

The sad day has arrived. I've admitted defeat and have to sell my beloved Fazer rather than take it to Germany with me.

It's in great nick.

60,000 Miles but it starts on the button EVERY time, with no choke.

Many extras /  accessories:

Full MOT (passed with flying colours, no advisories)

Tax 31/12/14

60,000 Miles, but starts on the button EVERY time and runs like new. Has consistently given me 50-60 MPG in ALL conditions.

17 / 46 Gearing for Smoother cruising and better Fuel Economy. (Still pulls like a TRAIN!)

K & N Air filter,

K & N Oil Filter,   (Oil was changed 2000 Miles ago.)

Carbon Fibre effect Vinyl wrapped bodywork (looks VERY cool in the sun!).

Carbon Effect Rear Hugger.

Renntech Engine Bars.

Renthal 756 Handlebars.

Heated Grips.

Dark tint, Tall Touring Screen (Ermax, I think).

FZ1 Mirrors (you can ACTUALLY see behind you!)

Luggage rack (Renntech I think).

Fork Mounted Spotlight.

Custom Seat with textured fabric. Great for stopping you sliding around.

Under seat Power point with 2x USB sockets.

Matching Metzeler Z6 Roadtec Tyres (Both about 50% worn).

Original Yamaha End Can in Immaculate condition.

I'll be sad to see it go, but German Beauracracy forces my hand.

Priced at £999  on Gumtree.

But £899 ono. to any of you folks.

It's in Huntingdon Area BTW.

Cheers.

Sooooo....

I went on a little 4000 mile trip on my Fazer this summer. And, as some of you may have become accustomed to, I recorded it with many cameras!

Here's a little taster of what's to come.

http://youtu.be/yC4rty7FJyE

It would be great to get a few more subscribers on the channel, so if you like it, please do feel free to like the video and give me a sub for up to the minute video action!!

Cheers fellows!

FZS600 Fazer / How To get your headlight apart...
« on: 13 July 2014, 01:54:10 pm »
Hey all!

I couldn't believe it when I read that the best way to get the headlight apart was to use the oven.

But I did it, and made a video as I did for a bit of fun!

I tried using a heatgun once, and it was no-where near as easy as this method!

Enjoy!!

I'm so pleased with my micro fairing, that I'm going to keep it full time.

So thinking of getting rid of my full front fairing and the bits attached to it.

So:

Full front fairing.
Carbon vinyl wrapped. Small crack by right indicator. Small crack on underside. Mirror holes slightly lengthened to accommodate FZ1 mirrors.

Left and right in-fill panels.

Left and right mirror sub frames.
Drilled to also fit FZ1 mirrors.

Pattern FZ1 mirrors.
Way wider than OE fzs ones. Not as firm as they used to be though.

Super tall touring screen.
        Dark tint. I think it's a powerbronze.

At this point, I'm open to offers.

For the lot, OR happy to split.

I'm in Germany, so I understand this could put a lot of you off.

I'll leave it all on here for a little while, then it'll be going on Das eBay!

Pictures to follow soon.

FZS600 Fazer / HH Sintered Pads changed braking 'feel'
« on: 27 April 2014, 05:15:55 pm »
Hey all.

I've recently bunged a set of Ferodo HH sintered pads into the front of my FZS.

Problem is, the brakes now feel horrible. Really snatchy and rough.

Is this normal for sintered pads? If not, looks like the discs might be warping.

Guy I bought the bike off said they were new last year, so hopefully not. But then he lied about other things too. There was no gold stashed in the fusebox....

General / Snetterton 300 Track Day Video.
« on: 16 April 2014, 09:39:38 am »
Hello all!

I've had a pretty good response from you fine folks to my vids so far, so thought I'd share the latest.

If you get a chance to do a track day, and you haven't already, DO IT!!

#21 Snetterton 300 Track Day

Hey Foccers!

So I've made the move to europe, and I want to keep my Fazer (naturally).

But I have to change a few parts to make it legal. The obvious one being the headlight.

So my question is, does anybody know how the Euro Spec FZS600 headlight is wired up?

Is it still the goofy H1 for dip, H4 for main?

I'm sure I saw somebody mention that its the other way so the H1 only comes on for main (which makes SO much more sense!)

Just hoping for some confirmation. I have to re-wire the whole thing anyway because I fitted the HID projectors didn't I!?

In other news, a set of projectors will be going begging soon!!  :lol

Thanks Folks!

Finally here.

Pretty happy with how it turned out, have a look and tell me what you think!

Cheers.

For Sale & Wanted / FOR SALE FZS600 OE Yamaha Engine Bars (GONE)
« on: 10 March 2014, 12:22:14 pm »
Hi all!

As I have now put Renntec crash bars onto Polly the Boxeye, I've decided to pass on my Yamaha Crash Bars.

They are The small hoop, Official Yamaha bars. Very subtle looks.

My bike has fallen onto them. They did a very good job of keeping everything damage free.

As a result of the drop, I've given them a Hammerite Rattle can paint job. It's not Professional Powdercoat Perfect, but as you can see, they look pretty good. I'd say it's a 'B-grade' Paint job!

There is a run on the underside of one bar (as I said, I'm no pro, I just wanted them to be all black again!)

And here they are on the bike:

They cost me £70.

For £45 they're yours.

Ta.

For Sale & Wanted / FOR SALE: FZS600 Renntec crash bars.
« on: 12 February 2014, 08:40:04 pm »
I've got a couple of sets of renntec crash bars that I picked up in a shoddy state with the intention of cleaning them up, painting and selling on.

I've stripped them to bright bare steel, but I suddenly have no time to paint them.

So I was thinking this might be a good opportunity for someone to take a set and paint them yourself / have them powder coated to the colour of your choice!

There are no fittings. Just the bars.

Open to offers.

For Sale & Wanted / FOR SALE FZS600 2001 Seat £15
« on: 07 January 2014, 12:25:58 am »
After picking up a tasty custom seat from Deefer666, I'm clearing the garage out so my standard seat is now for sale.

The vinyl is in pretty good nick except it's getting a little stiff at the front.

Also a couple of little splits at the front.

It's on eBay for £30 posted:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271365810963?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

To any of you fine people £25 posted, or £20 if you want to put the queens head in my hands in person.

So if you're thinking of getting your seat re-upholstered, but kinda need yours to make the ride to work more comfortable, have this one, and you've got a cheap spare! (Then sell yours on after and the circle of life continues Simba!)

For Sale & Wanted / FZS600 screen wanted. Broken or scratched OK
« on: 28 October 2013, 01:16:54 pm »
Hi Foccers one and all!

Had anybody got a standard boxeye screen going spare?

I want to chop it up and then paint/cover it so scratched and/or cracked screens considered for cheap.

Thanks!

FZS600 Fazer / FZS600 Project. A Bike Called Polly
« on: 16 October 2013, 09:02:31 pm »
Hi All!

Thought I'd share my ongoing project for a little criticism, hopefully a little praise and generally a touch of banter.

Bought in October this year.

From the off, it needed:

new chain and sprockets,
Fork Seals,
Back Tyre,
Oil Change,
Headlight Mod,
Engine repaint,
New Mirrors,
Downpipe replacement/repaint,
Carb Balance,
And a general deep clean and polish!!

But for £500 with 48k miles, and a couple of months MOT, I think it was a deal and a half.

And so the project (and the fun!) begins....

Introduction / Fazer Noob from the flatlands of Cambridge.
« on: 16 October 2013, 12:00:46 pm »
Hey all!

Brand new Fazer rider. Finally joining the fraternity with the bike I ORIGINALLY wanted when I first passed the test 8 years ago.

It's a 2001 FZS600s in red Black and silver.

It was in a truly crap state so I got it for a song but I've loved fettling it almost as much as riding it. Helped hugely by all you kind folks on here.

So far i have:

Stripped and repainted the engine (including polished covers)
New back tyre
Stripped and polished the forks (while changing seals)
New chain and sprockets (17:46 gearing, last tank range 260 miles)
Fitted a hugger and fender extender
Balanced the carbs
And fitted an led DRL bar (traffic now parts like the red sea)

Still to come:

K&N air filter is in the post
As are the projector headlights and thou mirrors

And most excitingly,  i'm halfway through a partial DIY carbon fibre vinyl wrap, which is actually going very well indeed!

The Red paint is horribly faded all over. So wherever there is red,  will now be carbon.

And that's it.

Nice to meet you all.

Ps, pics to follow!
