Hi Otley, I'm getting on a bit too & started to look at more sensible options to the Fazer 1000. I've now got a KTM 890 Duke R with "Track Pack" and it's an amazing joy to ride! Hope you enjoy your new MT10 as much.Take care.

I bought a Back Window carbon fibre end can for the little KTM . The end can is really well made-  carbon fibre and the stainless fittings seem really good. It's re-packable and it is a British company. Obviously can't answer for the the headers but their cat eliminators get good reviews in the forums.Rob

General / Road Legal Exhaust?
« on: 20 January 2022, 08:20:45 pm »
A mate of mine has a Black Widow Exhausts silencer which, according to their web site, is road legal as long as the baffle is fitted. Looking at my mates there is no BS AU 153... stamped on it. I thought all legal silencers had to have this ???  Don't want to buy one only to find it won't pass an MOT.Any thoughts?Rob

General / Trade in & DVLA
« on: 22 October 2021, 09:11:49 pm »
Hi all,
Part exchanged my no.2 bike for a newer one with a local motor trader at the beginning of the month. He assured me that he'd deal with the V5 change of ownership for the old bike. I used the DVLA's vehicle check and it hasn't been updated, so I contacted the dealer who said he'd passed the bike onto a third party and would chase it up with them. I've heard nothing for a week & the vehicle check still shows no change. Before the trade in I copied the V5- so I've still got all of the details necessary to do the update online. Question is should I give a few more days and use the online update, giving the details of the motor trader I dealt with?Any thoughts ????Rob

My brother's a "sparky" and gets me dielectric grease really cheap. I use it each time I undo any block connectors- it seals against ingress of moisture & prevents the pins furring up.
I do wonder if dielectric grease and silicone grease are the same thing?Rob

« on: 02 July 2020, 08:57:04 pm »
Read a review of the Chainmate (http://www.chainmate.co.uk) in August's Ride Mag. and decided to give a go.  No overspray, no bits of greasy cardboard- does exactly as it says on the tin. I think I should recover the £23 in savings on chain lube, but it may take some time!Great piece of kit & highly recommended.Rob

VNA posted "...But I guess proper washing of hands and appropriate use of alochol is best." Would appropriate use include alcohol by mouth? ;)

If you're talking about the Front Engine Mounting Bolts they should be torqued up to 45Nm (4.5 m.kg, 33ftlb).Do one at a time and you wont need to support the engine.all the bestRob

I've got drawers full of of measuring equipment including a set of Starrett imperial mics from 0- 10 inch, set of Mitutoyo metric mics from 0-250mm, and a almost unused Mitutoyo digital caliper, but like agricola I tend to use a Lidl digital caliper that cost less than a tenner!

+ another for Barkbuster Storms. Be careful with fitting- they can be a bit close to the standard screen on full lock.Rob

Yes, the 2 parts- no.3 "Supporto in Alluminio" are part of the fitting kit & without them you're stuck. If I remember correctly they slide part way into the hollow frame tube & maybe the previous owner forgot to remove them??Rob

Yes, no more Tax & MOT for the ancient Velocette.
Some owners of 40 year old m/cycles have discovered that the change is not automatic and have only found out when they got their road tax renewal demand- they have had to go through the DVLA via the PO to get their bikes reclassified as Historic Vehicles.Rob

« on: 21 June 2018, 09:05:03 pm »
I bet you if you had an accident on your classic bike ( with no  NCD) it would affect any insurance on your modern bike!!!!Like red98 the premiums are so low that you don't miss NCD, my classic bike policy does include breakdown assistance at no extra cost which has proved useful so I can't complain.

I've been with Footman James, Peter James and RDH and none of them offer NCD on classic bike insurance.

Too late if you've already ordered but...you can buy individual 16x1.5 carbon steel taps (taper, second or plug) from Tracy Tools for £10 each + postage.
https://www.tracytools.com/taps-and-dies/metric-taps-dies/16-x-15-metric
Maybe of some use for others though?
