You're probably right about the engine not turning over if it was the sidestand but it is an easy check to do. As for the wires you mention that have been cut I would try to trace them to see what they might be still connected to.

The first things I would check are the sidestand switch and the kill switch . Give them a good clean first. Then check the electrics on the ignition circuit, again make sure they are all clean and any multiplugs are corrosion free and tight fitting.

There is a cat in the header pipes as well as the original exhaust. I doubt if the aftermarket can you have on has a cat in. With the end can off shine a torch down into the exhaust outlet from the header pipes and you should be able to see if the cat is still there. It does look like corrugated material and some people remove it by drilling a few holes in it then just bashing the rest out with a screwdriver. From your description of the bits it does look like part of the cat, if it is still there maybe it is breaking up or if it has been removed then whoever did it did not run the engine afterwards without an end can on to remove any loose debris.

Thanks for all the answers The distribution block looks a good idea, I will just fit the relay to the usb charger for now and if I can make a tidy job of that I will upgrade to the distribution block before winter as I want to fit heated grips as well. I have always been put off by electrics as I have no idea about them but its seems to be more straightforward than I thought.

I knew someone would say use a relay The problem with using a relay is me , I have no idea what kind of relay to fit or how to trigger it from the sidelight.

I want to place a usb charger under the front fairing on my FZ1 so I can occasionally charge my phone or use it as a satnav and it will be easily accessible. I have bought a 12v one and want to know which wire at the front of the bike I can tap into so that it is only live when the ignition is on, I had thought of using either the yellow/black or the green/black wire that goes to the front lights. Would this be ok to do?

Dropped it in the petrol station! I didn`t put side stand down fully and it just folded up as I got off. Bent clutch lever and scraped the crash bung, could have been worse. The crash bungs were 2nd hand off ebay for £20 so they have more than paid for themselves. I replaced clutch lever with a spare one from my old gen1 as they are exactly the same.

Removed the Delkevic exhaust ( now on ebay) because the noise was just a bit too much and put this Micron on and I think it is even louder! I must be getting old. I will keep this on for a bit because I just like the way it looks.

Does the young lady come as standard fitment or aftermarket? I have been looking for something similar to fit my FZ1 and she looks like she would fit nicely with no mods needed

140 mile tank range! My last bar starts to flash at 110 miles and thats what I call my tank range, then I start desperately looking for a petrol station But I also would be interested in removing the collar, if only to avoid the splashback when I don,t get the petrol nozzle in it correctly.

I had my gen1 for 6 years before getting a gen2 in June this year. I luckily got a good 40 mile test ride on the gen2 because I was buying it of a neighbours friend. I would recommend a decent test ride before buying a gen2 because of what all the posters before me have said., the two bikes are chalk and cheese. If I could afford it I would have one of each, gen1 for touring and two up and gen2 for fun.
