the avon 3dxms stayed on for 56 miles lol. They are a good touring/ summer tyre, or perhaps a good winter one too if you ride hard..I don't this time of year. Which means they just don't get enough heat in them for me. so ive put bridgestones back on the cb, and if anybody wants the avons with genuinely less than 100 miles on them, seventy quid collected gets them. If ive still got them come april, i'll stick them on the fazer for me and dynspuds run to france, I'm guessing they would be perfect for that..
I’ll have them off you please. I’ll send a pm

Whoops, can’t read. I bought a used shock and Satan type adaptor from the states off the FZ owners forum. Sold it on the bike though. Only seen one other for sale on eBay, typically just after I bought mine. I do have an brand new set of rearsets for the bike if you interested. I sold the bike before I fitted these.

Not sure about the fz8. Most of these mods are for the 01-05 FZS 1000.

My Avon storm 3dxms are nearly done after 4600 hard miles. 2mm left in the centre of the rear 2.5mm on the front. Only slipped once on a wet manhole at full throttle. I don’t think that’s bad for less than £150 a pair.

+1 for bark busters storms, using the single bar fixing it allows the end of the guard to collapse against the screen at full lock. Although I made the mistake of pulling the bike onto the main stand with the handlebar and broke this large screen. I now have a narrower screen fittted and always pull on the crash bars to stand it up. I did get these guards for £50 off eBay though.

  • The 3D-XM’s worked well in the wet but I never tested the limit,
  • they spun up quite easily over white lines in the wet in a straight line without hardly any throttle.
  • So would you say no oh F*** moments going around corners or leaning over in the wet?
  • hmm, Ive not had a tyre do that in a very long time. And in the wet I am very gentle with the throttle and cant remember the last time that happened.
I might contact Avon and see if there is a time period that they can be returned if they arent suitable.
I’ve had about 4 sets of 3dxms they are very good in the wet, like any tyre if you take the piss with the throttle they will slip but they are my go to tyre. I’ve done a trackday on them as well on my gen 2, were great on a that too.

If you still have the toolkit there’s usually a spanner to fit the back nut. Will do if you mark where it is the start then count turns off.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Headlight volts drop
« on: 12 October 2018, 09:41:23 pm »
If its a gen 1, these are notorious for
  • having undersized cables in the sub-loom, sits under the front cowling, connects to the main loom.
  • the same undersizing on the cables going from the reg-rec to the main loom.
My FZS had a similar issue in that the volts at the clocks was sitting around 10v with the headlight on, I go around this issue by running an extra ground to the clock from the small frame mount above the reg-rec. Then I changed the halogens for LED -
I went for a fanless design because rain would just kill a little fan in now time, and where the shaft behind the bulb is the exact same width and length so the rubber headlight boots seal against them keeping the headlight sealed.

These LED bulbs have several benefits over HID but primarily you get proper hi beam and with a much better low beam pattern.
Thanks for your reply, I suppose it’s just easier to fit the leds

i notice when I switch my lights on sometimes the clocks go off then come back on, also if I pull the pass light switch in. I did a test with the lights disconnected and that stopped the clocks going out. I’ve checked the battery voltage and it drops quite a bit when the lights go on, I guess it’s enough to cut the clocks out. Has anyone altered their lights to fire them off a relay? Would it make any difference? Gen 1 2001

New cables arrived form brooks barn motorcycle, different design. Exhaust end cables go right through nipples. Other end look pressed on.

Mine snapped when I was rear ended and the exhaust was shunted forward.  I replaced the inners with the venhill rebuild kit, about £10.  Did 30 k or so before selling it and are still on now so they are decent.
Was an option but as I am hopefully get a refund on them I’m just as well getting a new set.

Mick has a used one for sale here http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,24571.0.html

I would sooner a used OEM than a new snide. Just my thoughts.

I would rather have new cables. They don’t last forever and pattern parts can be as good as .
