Ok, I could do with getting this shifted. It's been another year that I haven't got it sorted out, and I want to get a scooter for my short commute.

First £1000? you'll need to pick it up though as it's not running.

Based in Margam, South Wales.

Thanks

Thanks for all the comments so far.

Took some better pics, hopefully the link will work.

I think looking to take a grand would be reasonable? I'd be happy with that sort of price as well. I'm looking to buy a scooter for my commute so rather than pay out to get it fixed, i'd use that cash for a deposit on the scooter.

Now in the for sale section.

nearer 2k

I'd take that  :rollin  but it is a non runner so I'm realistic.

Tbh, if anyone threw me in a reasonable offer, I'd probably shift it on. Hence why I'm asking the question as I have no idea what a reasonable offer would be?  :thumbup

So I guess I'm still asking the original question?

Roughly how much should I be asking?

I'm based near Port Talbot, S Wales.

I have got some pics. I'll see if I can work out how to post them up from my Mac. If anyone has whatsapp, I can send them if you PM me your mobile number?

Edit, it looks like I can't take the photos straight from my Mac pics and have to host them elsewhere?

I think I'm accepting that my Fazer thou, which has sat in the garage for 18 months + waiting for me to get the balls to take it apart and sort it out, isn't going to be fixed, well, by me anyway.

So, maybe it's time to part ways?

the question is, how much is it worth? Only as much as someone will pay obviously, but ballpark?

2002 black Fazer thou in average to good condition, 42k miles, no recent SH as it's been sat in the nice warm garage. Ivans fitted, some extras such as spare exhaust, givi rack.

But, the carbs are blocked, this is the main issue, I don't feel confident enough to take it apart and sort. I'm sure someone will have the get up to do it. The battery needs replacing, heated grips and horn don't work. No MOT and doesn't run at the moment due to the above.

I was thinking about £750-£900? Does this sound reasonable? Or am I way out. It's hard to value. Also, not sure where to advertise it? Fleabay? Gumtree?

Ok, I'm putting it up!!! I'm selling my black 2002 FZS 1000. 41966 miles.

It's in good condition for the year. There's very obviously marks and scars as it's a 20 yr old bike.

Now....it's currently a non runner. It's sorn'd and hasn't got an MOT. I know the horn wasn't working, but they're only £10 or so?? So, if anyone buys it, they'll need to take it on a trailer or in a van.

It's been left in the garage and now doesn't start. I've just put it back on an optimate, but it may need a new battery.

The carbs need cleaning out as well. When I last started it just before Christmas, it started and idled but whenever I applied the throttle, it cut out.

I'll throw in the SP exhaust, as well as the original. It has a Givi luggage rack fitted as well, but I also have the pillion handles. It has a black bagster tank cover as well.

I've done very few miles on it over the 5 yrs I've owned it. I intended to get it back on the road this year and use it. But I've got a new bike itch and once I've got the itch, it'll probably end up being scratched.

If anyone is handy with spanners, then it's an easy fix to get it sorted.

Price, well, I think I'd like to pocket £1200. I don't think that's unreasonable for a thou? (unless everyone tells me otherwise?) Looking on fleabay, the cheapest bike on there is £2000'ish. It'll cost very little, maybe just someone's time to get this bike back on the road. If you want to chance an offer, then it'll need to be close.

Interested in all this. Keep the info coming as I'm about to start the suspension on my '02 thou. Then it can go somewhere for the carbs to be sorted out (that may be a job too far/ difficult for me)

This comes up a lot (even before covid), if you store a bike for that long you should always drain the petrol from the tank and carbs (or the carbs at the very least)

On the face of it, it could be the slow circuit in the carbs is blocked (if that is the case, its a remove, strip and clean job). How long did you let the bike run for before trying to give it some throttle?

Probably between 5-10 mins easy I would say

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Carbs?
« on: 21 March 2021, 09:10:36 am »
Morning, My Fazer has pretty much been in the garage for 12/13 months and started/run maybe two or three times. I got it out yesterday after buying a new battery just to get it running.

Managed to get it started and idling on half choke, but the moment I turn the choke off or give it any throttle at all, it stalls.

My first guess is carb jets? Anything else I should look at?

Also, I'm not 100%, but was 'told' that it was Ivanised, so if I buy new jets, am I ok with standard or do I need different ones? I'd really like to get it back on the road this year, but have limited budget/ time or spannering skills (see suspension thread).  Thanks in advance.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Rear shock/ suspension
« on: 24 January 2021, 11:13:19 am »
All, is there a section or thread somewhere that lists exactly (models and year bikes) what other rear shocks fit the thou?

And also, what, if any, mods need to be made to the shocks to get them to fit.

I’m of average spannering ability, but my thou’s suspension needs updating/ upgrading.

Actually, while I’m asking, does anyone recommend somewhere to get my front forks overhauled and sorted, new springs/ oil etc that won’t break the bank.

I need front and rear done for the cheapest price. My bike is probably only worth £1k so don’t want to spend nearly that to get it sorted, but I also want to ride it, as it is, it’s not pleasant as I can very easily find the limits of the suspension.

I now have three sets of these (job pays), I get them re-moulded every 5 years as the ear continues to grow and change shape, I still use all three sets dependant on what i'm doing with them. I have two sets of just in ear plugs and one set with a band attached to each plug which is really handy. Saying that, I've never lost any.

Oh, they are really good as well. I also have to have my hearing checked yearly and even riding bikes for the last 15 yrs in work, have had no change in my hearing, so they must do ok.
£80  :eek - gonna see if I can get a used pair on ebay  :lol

Lol, they are expensive, but will last for years. It's funny that some will spend £00's or £000's on kit and want the latest gear and accessories for the bikes, helmets, gloves, boots, exhausts etc, yet go all wobbly at £80 for something that will potentially save your hearing?

Strange old world?
You are right but when it comes to kit you can try on first before you buy - obviously not something you can do with those. And so the fear is expensive if you dont get on with them.
What DB reduction do you get with those. I have read alot of white coat lab talk but no actual figures. The earsoft fx I currently use says   atteunation rating SNR = 38

There is a link on the website to the certificates etc. Doesn't look like the noisebreaker has an SNR as good as the 3m's. But both conform to the same standards according to the certificates.

I'm lucky, I didn't have to pay for my moulded ones, and can only give my opinion. They've been great over the many years I've worn them, all day comfy and as they can only be put in the ear one way due to the shape, give the same protection each time. I found with the sponge/ foam plugs (which I have used from time to time), you can't guarantee they've gone in the correct way, and then the SNR protection doesn't make any difference.

Introduction / Re: Back again
« on: 06 October 2018, 09:01:08 am »
Hiya what did MCT do to the suspension, I need my forks looking at? Ta.

The front end has had new springs, and the valves have been fiddled with (shim stacks?) then new oil, but I have no idea what weight they have used. They did the same to the back end with a new spring/revalve. It’s really made a difference!!
Back end feels the same as my last gen 1 that had an r6 shock fitted.

Having had my interest raised about MCT suspension, can I be cheeky and ask what sort of price that would cost? really want to get my thou sorted suspension wise, but MCT are one hell of a trip for me. They seem to get great reviews of their work though.

Nice one, I had a cb1300, for about 6 months, as soon as i saw one I wanted one. But I found it a really disappointing bike to ride, a bit too 'Honda'? Still love the look on them though!!

And suspension, I'd love to get my Thou suspension sorted, MCT is way to far away for me to travel and I've yet to find somewhere more local to me to trust.
