For Sale & Wanted / R6 shock for FZS600 conversion.
« on: 29 September 2018, 01:46:13 pm »

The dog bones & the collar are prototypes made by Kebab who pioneered them on the 600. As such are tarnished & he provided me smaller nuts (ahem) to compensate for thickness of the bones otherwise get some made up from projection components.

All the info is on the Foc-U forum.
Thanks To Kebab for the stuff but I’ll probably end up with more of a party piece bike next year so will be a waste to fit this now.

I want 175 earth pounds for it (posted) which is a fair price.

Cheers😎👍

General / Advice from the foc-u guitar fiends
« on: 09 November 2015, 10:35:10 pm »
as per my comment on Joebloggs post im really itching to get learning the guitar but i dont really know where to start......im not a die hard musical enthusiast so i appreciate allot of different stuff............i wouldnt be into thrash metal or anything im more into keeping it chilled and relaxed.........and heres the thing....ive got a real nice bass guitar...a hudson pb 9 performance bass, amp etc........i had a bass when i was a teenager & indie fever was going on so i kinda followed on from that but i just cant get enthusiastic enough to get into it.....bass is more of a support role and in hindsight id much prefer to be strumming away on an accoustic or learning some evil licks.

I dont really want to learn via one of those books....you know the type where you get a cd...they bore the shit outta me......i've got an old accoustic guitar up in the attic that i can get started on to see if i can prove worthy of something better, needs some strings and wont be that good but neither will i so it will do for now.

But whats the best way to start as in should i stick to either rhythym or lead..or can i mix it up while learning...........do i have to learn scales first or can i just learn the chords and crack on a bit.

Exup says i should learn the blues.......i like blues......but are there any other suggestions as styles or artists that i can look up.....im thinking shit like credence clear water revival and the usual famous stuff but there is undoubtedly a whole world of artists ive never even heard of considered. I actually like allot of sheryl crow stuff.

Is it a good idea to get some lessons.....i often wonder what the foc they can teach you and no ammount of lessons will make your fingers contorted properly like good old fashioned practice surely

Any other general suggestions

Im just really getting focced off with evening telly and i sit listening to it every night and getting pissed off while generally wasting time mooching various websites...."the thrill is gone ;) " and im thinking why not get into the guitar instead, especially now in the winter when theres little else to get up to apart from get pissed........get pissed and play guitar sounds better.

Cheers

General / Should i buy this from China???
« on: 11 October 2015, 01:44:05 pm »
Just something I spotted that I thought would set off the front end of the noggyfighter trx really nicely.......but it is from China :eek

the shpeel sounds convincing but does anyone with either welding knowledge or in the off chance any experience of these type rads have any advice on them?

supposedly exceeds oem spec but hmmmmmmm should I believe them as Chinese stuff can often be questionable.

can they actually make half decent stuff if you pay the dosh I wonder?

I also don't know how to go about finding out what the import duties would be on something like that??

Introduction / Yous mighta almost got rid of me
« on: 20 August 2015, 08:07:25 pm »
wouldn't that be a treat......dont worry ill be lurking around.....theres always the what did you do with whatever else you got thread......except i havent got anything else yet :'(

Anyway it has been a pure joy on here, first forum i ever joined & i've had so much help both with the old FZS & the FZ1....i've been a complete ditherer with both bikes & it has been fun getting a bit of stick about it......personalities really do come across in here & i've had much chuckling to myself so many times.

This year has been a really forced effort.....because i still wasnt totally happy with the thou, coupled with the introduction of a micro noggy in my life...having a child is a wonderful thing, far exceeds my expectations...but it isnt condusive with going out on my own for days at a time on a bike.......so i needed the small ammount of time in th saddle to be just right.....yeh i can go quick on the thou, corner well on it but im not always fulfilled by the whole experience...sad really......still biking....just not friendly enough....why not try something else eh.

Glad i got the lofo ride in....really wanted to make the effort to meet some other foccers although im usually not in the best frame of mind for too much chat when my helmet comes off because my head is so fried with concentrating & loving riding & dying to get going again.

All being well ill be meeting Devilsyam inc & friend next Sunday & the mighty thou will be sold.....at a fair price i reckon as the bike needs a little bit of small time TLC & some fettling to bring it up to scratch.......described well as a thorn in my side...yes it is.....owes me £3500.00 spent on it originally & a shafting by the previous owner who did me out of all the original parts & was a complete bullshitter...& probably another £1000.00 trying to get it right.....i probably would have spent another £1000.00 & still found it just not quite right for me......such is life, only money.....but i just dont want to spend any more.

Will look out over the winter for an old school bargain i reckon....something that more suits the back roads and twisties of SW Wales

Thought id get a sneaky welsh spin on the beast today, back to work tomorrow.....would be my last chance.....got it outta the shed.......started foccing raining....as i said to DY.....it is Wales.....it was also a sign :rolleyes

Last pic of her in the garden...taken today in the rain after a wash.

General / Insensitive reporting
« on: 03 August 2015, 09:18:54 pm »
maybe shoulda put this on the "what gets my goat"

Heres the link

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-33755093

For a start i will say that it is sad that anyone has died on the roads whether they are riding a bike or driving a car. After all many bikers also drive cars and many car drivers also ride bikes.

I think we all know how much "extra" fun can be had from biking but that is down to the individual and in my experience there are probably more absolute loons out there driving cars than riding bikes...

...riding a bike requires a tad extra brain power and resources that the pond scum of this little island wouldnt quite be able to master......plus the pond scum cant fit 10 mates, 2 dogs and a kilo of smack on a motorbike can they........

But 3 people died in Wales alone yesterday while out on their bikes and im really pissed off with this report from the BBC for the following reasons:-

 - A 53 year old biker collided with a BMW......eh...hang on a second...surely that's a bit premature to be deciding who collided with who here....the poor bugger aint even cold yet and the bbc have decided who hit who....surely it was an impact and ok ill confess that i'm guessing here that the biker didnt smack straight into a stationary car although i suppose if a car pulls out on you and then slams on the brakes then technically they will then be stationary so you could then say that the bike hit the car........but how dare they be privvy or even guess on those facts so soon after the incident without a thorough accident investigation report...........so anyway if both vehicles were moving though then it gets a bit more complicated doesnt it so why are they putting across such an anti biker report still.

 - One rider was riding a "high powered" Yamaha motorbike.......WTF!!!!......the incident could have happened at 30mph FFS!!!.....what relevance does power have to this story........what about the vague "BMW" car that was involved......last time i checked BMW werent exactly under powering their cars.....when was the last time you were cut up by a 1.1 litre BMW or straight bit getawayedyouaintgettingpassedme'd by a 1.3 litre N/A BMW.....never....because they are all pretty high powered.....yet already the BBC have decided that the power of the bike was to blame.....bunch of FUNTS!!!!

then there is a highly educational video about how so called "born again bikers" within the category of the poor bugger that has died.......and how they are basically more dangerous according to statistics.........oy oy oy...stop the foccing bus.....who said that this guy was born again????....for a start he aint foccin jesus!!!.....and for seconds...just because he is 53 doesnt mean that he is a so called born again biker does it......maybe he has been riding since he was 12 and hasnt actually stopped once....maybe he is a proffesional foccing TT rider for all they know that hasnt had a single year away from bikes......again how dare they imply all this shit.

ill openly admit that im a twat sometimes......last couple of days i was a twat the odd time and i feel bad about it and im gonna learn by it......but im probably just as much a twat in the car....if i went the same roads for the same miles...just for fun.....gonna be sunny...cant wait to do 500 miles in the car through wales just for the crack......which i wouldnt....but thats not the point is it...but anyway it isnt the bike that makes me a twat.

same thing happened last year.........100 car crashes in the brecons.....hardly a mention.....every one that involved a bike....highly publicised with an anti bike bias.

just does my tits in thats all.

does anyone fancy a bimble.....only if it is sunny..............theres quite a few welsh members, some recent gen 1 thou owners etc.

nowt organised as such, just blast about the place and hopefully locals have some good road suggestions other than my usual routes....bot of fun riding without going crazy mental....I have a fast bike but a slow brain and too much ballast :lol

im haverfordwest so am probably the furthest westwards, id do 300 miles max...with stops etc more likely a couple hundred miles, depends how early I can leave and how my arse copes :biker

im off the weekend after if that's better...I just need loads of notice so I can book my time before the missus books it for me.

we don't tend to get many takers and it is awkward with everyone having different schedules but be nice to get one half decent attended spin, 5 or 6 bikes is probably ideal without it turning into a road train.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Starting problem theory.
« on: 23 May 2015, 10:43:04 am »
My intermittent starting problem isn't entirely remedied yet.....have done as many of the connections I get my mits on...contact cleaner and dilectric grease, ive sprayed copious wd40 down the ignition hole and I've taken off most of the electrical ancillaries such as heated grips and 12v charger point and old GPS wiring....only the gear indicator left on. Also got a new battery last year which is good, mottobat.

to recap - it will turn and turn and turn over without firing and requires turning off the ignition and back on...maybe once, twice, three times (a ladddyyyyyyy :b)....then it will just fire up first press of the switch no problem.

the other day I tried it lots of times to no avail...then I thought foc it ill try holding the clutch in - & it fired up.......but I thought that was maybe coincidence.......but over the last few days it hasn't failed to start once while holding the clutch in.

Can anyone think of a reason for this???....I was thinking maybe a sensor somewhere.

I've heard of talk about micro switches on the clutch levers and i do have aftermarket ASV levers......surely that would mean that it didn't turn over though....but could it be teetering on the edge somewhere perhaps?

Only other thing i can think of is that i detached the clutch foot lever from its spigots in order to get more comfy foot position and since then found out via Red98 that actually this spigot is supposed to go on one position only....sure he said there's an arrow somewhere to line it up but i cant see any markings....ive put it back to what i think it was close to but perhaps something to do with that affecting a sensor somewhere or never being properly in Neutral??????

any ideas appreciated but for now ill continue to start with the clutch pulled in........if eventually it doesn't start whilst holding the clutch in then that will discount the new theory but so far so good.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 2 suspension linkage bolts spec???
« on: 11 April 2015, 07:40:51 pm »

Can anyone help me find some nice replacement linkage bolts & self locking nuts for my clean, new jack up frames.....it's the 3 long yins that go through the shock and the needle bearings on the triangular jack up frame.

im not at home to measure them and I've looked through the service manual on here....I think they are M10.....I quite fancy ones that stand out against the black frame so stainless or Gold....but then I worry whether the ones I look at online are the correct strength for such a job plus I don't know the length.

any links or a description of the exact size would be most appreciated.

thanks

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Engine side throttle cable adjusting.
« on: 06 April 2015, 05:29:21 pm »
im having my usual dramas with my bike and my newest problem is that i've fitted my new throttle cable but the throttle isnt snapping back.

Theres a very small snap back right at the end as i manually close the throttle.

A bit confused really......on the grip side ive got the single adjuster wound right up as if i go the other way it makes the throttle too tight.

& engine side im not sure what i should really be doing......i presumed that i needed to make the return cable on the bottom a bit tighter but it doesnt seem to matter how i adjust them it still does the same thing.

Any ideas please???

hey mate, as promised....some possible salvagables for you at low cost.

The grips....£5 if you wanna take the punt...check out the bodginess of the fitting :eek .....i still need to get the cable off my bike that goes to the battery.

Left switch gear for hazards....obviously you can see the connectors....just a case of whether your bike takes them......lets just say a £5 for them also...it is the noggyshop (Tm) after all.

The exhaust....well as i said to you the link pipe is where the value is...worth £20 on its own really......can you get in touch with Simmi Performance & see if they'd supply you some straps...they're a british company, should be quite helpful. if they wont then its prob a waste of time....tbh it doesnt look to bad as is when it is fitted....obviously the hole in the carbon sleeve at the end is the most worrying....personally if the straps were cheap enough then id prob just slide the carbon sleeve round so the hole is out of sight.......if you get back to me with the strap status &you'll defo do the job then you can have the exhaust for the price of the link pipe.......so £20.

Would you be interested in a set of jack up dog bones???....i have a set of perception components ones...at least a 25mm raise on the arse end.......yours for a £10 if you want them.......pic of my old bike with them fitted.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Power commander 3 VS 5
« on: 10 March 2015, 11:26:23 am »
im getting real pissed off trying to get a good power commander 3 on eBay, nobody does buy it now at a reasnable price in the UK and then the bids shoot up right at the end and its a case of wait yet another week.

I may just cut off my nose to spite my face and go full hog and get a PC5 instead.

But is there really much benefit in getting the 5 over the 3 on an old 08 bike like mine and if i do get it will it keep its value more on a resale because it is more Gucci model?

i had hope that removing these would be as easy as removing normal grips ie a screwdriver and a bit of lube.

A quick look on google reveals lots of problems trying to remove them.

But foc google, it is foccers adice i want :faz

ANyone have any hints n tips.

I dont atually need them, i just need the switch gear etc for the Renthals so if it comes to destroying them off then what would be a good method without damaging anything else.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Sprucing up the old FZ1
« on: 29 January 2015, 08:54:27 am »

I'm looking at adjusting my rear sets on the FZ1 (gilles) because my quad cramps up badly after about 150 miles.

At present id say they are more or less in line with my hips but i got thinking about whether it would be less taxing on the legs to actually have them adjusted all the way to the rear of the bike.

It's  tricky with the FZ1 coz its a semi upright.....if it was a supermoto id say in line with hips would be good.....if it was a sports bike  i'd say as far rearwards as possible for the lie down position.....but the thou is somewhere between.

Has anyone tried it, what were the results?

The bike is currently sorn so i cant do trial and error yet

as above please.

To replace my Gilles rear sets as the tosser that sold me the bike bumped me on the original bits supposed to be included.

Must be in excellent condition.

General / Anyone ridden a Honda VTEC bike?
« on: 13 January 2015, 09:56:37 pm »

I went to JT's in Swansea earlier to clear the head a bit & talk to so eone other than females ;)

Mooched about at various bikes as you do & i am still attracted to the MT07 and it feels like a BMX when you sit on it so i can imagine it is flickable......but it doesnt ooze quality like some other bikes.

I spotted a VFR

I used to think that VFR's were exotic & superbikes and the cats tits..........when i was a teenager.................nowadays with a licence then i get the feeling they are regarded as somewhat reserved or boring. Perhaps it doesnt help that mostly when i see one it is being ridden boringly, these VFR owners they dont seem to need to give a foc about proving themselves either that or there's an inbuilt drip from the handlebar that infuses diazepam....but ive never seen one ridden hard.

I just got curious, im always curious about different bikes so i looked up VFR's on the net and as i recall the VTEC model isnt very popular because of the VTEC kick basically it seems.

What are folk worried about here?, that the engine will kick in. Mid corner & catch them by surprise......youd need to be pretty damn unlucky for that to happen & it still only does that if you are still opening throttle........it isnt a switch......ive had my car steady in the rev range yet mid vtec if that makes sense.......it isnt NOS.......

I owned a Honda Civic Type r VTEC and it was a fantastic car and i used to love that rush when the VTEC kicked in so i find the distaste for the bike surprising.

My FZ1 has a sudden kick at about 7k revs..........surely this should get the same VFR dislike?

What about all the nostalgia about 2 strokes and their power bands?

What about all the talk about engines being characterless these days.....is VTEC not adding some pizazz?

Its just general bike chat really im intrigued that a major manufacturer could have got things so wrong or was it just not at the right time like with many marques?

Always liked the looks of them, could it be the best of both worlds, large ish capacity, good comfort, good fun maybe?.....i know it would be reliable......did 80k miles in my car and the only issue was the windscreen becoming unbonded through cornering...cant grumble at that 8)

25
General / The great quality debate and paying extra.
« on: 05 December 2014, 04:10:35 pm »
the current fuel thread debate/winter warmer has got me thinking about how it seems that most folk dont believe the benefits of expensive fuel however the opposite seems to be true with tyres as most folk seem to believe that more money for a premium brand tyre is worthwhile.

Both fuels and tyres are based on simillar eveidence which is mostly how the car or bike "feels".

I will admit that i have even "thought" that one bike tyre felt different to the other which i have equated to feeling better or worse however on the flip side because it is all a "feeling" then someone else could think that they prefer the opposite to me......it is all very personal.

Back to cars - i have usualy always gone with top brand car tyres at premium prices, but a while back i had a run of getting punctures via nails and screws etc so i decided foc it i cant afford to keep replacing with premium tyres if they only last a few thousand miles before they are destroyed.....& i was pleasantly surprised with the performance of cheap tyres that i had previously shunned.

My car has just had 2 front tyres again. It was previously running the manufacturer supplied Continental Sports Contact 2 tyre which is a premium tyre. The contis had done 11500 miles and were just about at the wear bars so had circa 2mm and the car is only a little 1.2 TSI Petrol. The EU recommended tyre tread depth is 3mm. The car was slipping all over the place. Even at the recommended 3mm it was noticeably lacking at times.

I replaced my Contis with some cheap "Runway" tyres which were £55 each including vat and fitting and balancing and this worked out at about half the price of the Contis...half price is a substantial saving...they are 17 inch low profile tyres also.

Straight away i could feel the difference and the car feels much much better even though i still havent scrubbed them in. There is honestly no ill effect & the car hasnt exploded, they look good, feel good & my wallet looks good.

The tyre place gave me a sheet with the legal statistics for the EU performace grading of the tyres which is handy to view because it proves that the tyre is or isnt a quality tyre in certain areas. If i had known about this chart beforehand i would have asked them to show me various tyres at different prices to compare.......please note which i find interesting - nowhere is there any mention or requirement for dry road performance......what exactly does this tell us i wonder?

Below is a link from the net (from seat) which explains it all.

http://www.seat.co.uk/content/uk/brand/en/services-and-accessories/maintenance/tyres/tyre-safety-and-legislation.html

I've included the chart for my cheap tyres and it shows that they arent all that good on mpg......however this could mostly be inherrent for the size of wheel and rolling resistance etc so i will update once i have run a full tank of fuel as i always note my mileage.

The chart also shows that the tyre is second from best for wet weather performance which is great and i imagine only the wet weather super specific thres will score best.

So all in all not actually that bad really are they.

It gets me thinking about simillar scenarios with bike tyres and i wish we could have more blind tests as i think there is still allot of snobbery and suggestion whether intended or not and i dont think we should just trust those with vested interests. The way that i see that bike tyres are different is that the way they corner compared to cars is that over time they are deformed or squared off. This is another performance indicator that cars dont have per say.

Here is another thing to think about with car or bike and bearing in mind that my tyre had noticeably reduced performance at 3mm tread. New tread was 8mm. So that gave me an effective range of useful tread of only 5mm. If you go for a tyre that is double the price & your mate buys the cheap one then by the time the tyres are down to half of their tread (assuming equal wear) your mate then replaces his for another set of cheap ones. For the same price he could afford to buy the cheaper tyre twice within the same period. So there you are during the second half and you are running on say just under half tread whilst your mate is running on almost full tread. Which is the safest? Who will stop quicker in the wet? If it is bike tyres then whos tyre is gonna be the most squared off during that second half?

It is just food for thought that is all. What im saying is that just because you've got the fanciest, most expensive tyres does not mean that you are the safest or best performing. Much the same could be said for someone running gucci tyres but who never checks his pressures but that is more the human factor. The human factor can i think come into it with the fancy tyre for certain people. If you've forked out all that money then you're gonna get your moneys worth so are possibly more likely to run that tyre closer to its legal limits, especially if you are on a low budget so i say to folk on a budget that it is best to go cheap and buy twice.

I'm glad i've found these charts now and i want to research more now about individual tyres & prices & i hope that they exist for bikes.
