General / car tyre query
« on: 24 November 2011, 01:28:09 am »
we were out at the flics tonight (at Linwood for the locals), the easy way home by motorway was closed for repairs, the detour taking us round the arse end of Paisley and back towards the airport to rejoin the M8. trying to follow the detour we didn't spot a bit of pavement sticking out into the two lane road - like a reverse bus stop, so bang! both passenger side (near side? never did get the hang of that) wheels collided with the kerb. both stayed inflated, no wobbles or pulling on the move, but there is a bulge on the sidewall of the front tyre. about the size of a tangerine, but black ...obviously.

my question (at last I hear you cry) is this - does the bulge mean that the tyre is damaged and unsafe? (would be typical as they're not that old)

Your Suggestions and How you can help / type of bike...

dare I say it, could we consider a forum for "other makes of bikes" so if anyone is looking for general info/help then if could be posted there? ...or do we just use general like always?

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / Gathering
« on: 30 September 2011, 03:39:04 pm »
after the last one I said that was enough. the logistics of the supplies is just too much hassle due to the location of the venue. last couple of times I'd wondered about a change of location, so...

if the Gathering in the Glen was to stay alive, which part of Scotland would interest you?

not that I'm offering to carry on as organiser - cos I'd be more than happy for someone else to step forward.

I know you've barely got your breath back, but any thoughts about "enabling" foc-u for Tapatalk? the browser type seems to be the same as/similar to the Tiger800 forum which I can get on my mobile in a much easier/readable format than using tinterweb browser.

even though I've prised myself from the glory that was the Gen 1 Fazer Thou. still a fairly mega mile muncher (did 107,000miles on the Thou and it's still going as far as I know), now running a TigerXC, still living in the wet part of Scotlandshire, still married to Mrs Gringo, oh, and inventor of the Gathering in the Glen.

Fazer 1000 / Bearing Designations for Gen 1 Fazer 1000

For anyone who's looking to replace the bearings on their Fazer 1000, the following is a list of the bearing types and sizes you'll need.

While you can get most of these from bearing factors all over the UK, I strongly recommend you contact Marc at BikeBearings UK (http://www.bikebearings.co.uk/) as this chart would not have been possible without a great deal of research and cooperation on his part. His prices are very competitive and he deserves our trade, I believe.

Marc's website lists all the necessary bearings in specific kits for front, rear and the rear sprocket carrier. He also offers taper roller bearing sets for the steering head.

I hope you find this useful and that it saves you time and expense buying replacement bearings at inflated Yamaha dealer prices.

Cheers

Mike

They're not listed but Marc knows which ones are required. Get in touch and tell him what you need.
2 x 93317-31771-00 BEARING (HMK1720C/2A)
4 x 93317-21746-00 BEARING (HMK 1715C/2A)

He can't, though, help you with the oil seals and spacer bushes. You will need genuine Yamaha parts. That said, you can re-use the seals if they're in reasonable condition and you remove them carefully.
Part numbers are:
8 x 93109-17071-00 OIL SEAL
1 x 90387-102R4-00 COLLAR (ie spacer bush)
1 x 90387-127W0-00 COLLAR
2 x 90387-126Y1-00 COLLAR

Inner Ring/Collar (this is the collar that goes on the left hand side) INNER RING
1 x 28x35x32mm

If not using bikebearings.co.uk

When it comes to buying the bearings and seals, try to opt for European make rather than Japanese, as they are invariably higher quality.

RHP/SKF are a good bet for the bearings, and BSL (Bearing Service Ltd) are an excellent source in most decent size towns (and wolverhampton).

Try to haggle on the price, as you will probably be quoted full list and it's not uncommon for trade to get discounts of up to 70%
