I was attempting to fit some led spotlights today, taking a feed from the side/parking light. All was fine until suddenly no power to the side light or the tail lights. Checked fuses and all appear to be okay. Side light works okay when running a lead direct from the battery. Main beam and high beam are fine and brake lights are fine. I've checked all bulbs and they are all okay.
I'd be grateful if anyone has an idea what I may have blown/fused/destroyed.
Many thanks in anticipation.

that sounds as if you may have a loose connection in the wiring, trace it back from the light through the switch and back to the battery...you may have upset it when fitting the extra lights :)
-
Remember with led lighting current will only flow one way unlike a regular bulb.

I'm such a numpty. It was the sneaky fuse tucked away in the left side panel. Doh! :o
-
glad its fixed....and we have all learnt something :D

Hi,
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I am having the same problem. Wondered if you could explain where the fuse is exactly
Thanks

I found it! All good :)
This forum is a lifesaver

yet no1 decided to post a photo on the location of this elusive bloody fuse - can i FOC find it
-
ok it was just a slightly misleading post earlier on
the fuse is actually under the seat in the rear left hand side panel just follow the main wiring loom it might be tucked underneath it
not under the side panel you would first think of

i knew someone would post before i got home to my camera

I'd have never thought of looking there for a fuse. Mentally noted for the future.
-
thats the thing i read the earlier posts and was looking behind the triangular side panels and couldnt see a thing
then remembered i had replaced that once in the past so thought it would be best to update the post
-
what type of fuse goes in it ?
-
standard 10 amp
i blew mine when i took the blown sidelight bulb out and the contacts slipped and touched (yep ignition on like an idiot)

I love this post. Been having the same problem and pulling my hair out looking for the solution. Came on here to ask for any ideas and low & behold, this thread was sitting on the top page. Changed the fuse and now all good
Cheers

brilliant but also infuriating as why the fook did they put a fuse their why not beside the fuse box even in the wiring diagram it shows it but not where it is

Hi All,
just resurrecting this query as I was suffering the same side/tail light problem on a 2002 Foxeye.
Checked all fuses, although the one tucked under the seat was marked "Signal" and seemed to be fine and did actually feed the indicators. I then took the right hand the handlebar switch apart (bad move) and cleaned all the visible contacts. Spent a fair while trying to re-assemble it and turned on the sidelights and they seemed to work. Switched off the bike and tried again and got nothing. Wheeled the bike back in the garage in disgust and just happened to wiggle the key and the side/tail lights came on. I am now suspecting the ignition switch, so just wondered if these can be taken apart to clean the contacts, or if I will have to fork out for a replacement.
Cheers in advance

Wee bit late , but to answer Sharpshooter, yes you can take ignition apart. Thats where i had electrical problem once . Similar light problems . I found one of the wires had broken off. Wee solder job and still going strong.
As i remember there are two security screws that just need a wee slot cut into them for flat head screwdriver and all comes apart. Think i used the dremel for it.
When taking apart, keep bottom turned up and slowly take apart. Just take it slowly and all should be fine.
Im sure i posted pic of broken wire on here but not sure when.

Thanks TOM VR46 (https://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=11178)
I assume the ignition/switch assembly needs to be removed, which is the bit that scares me for fear of shearing the bolts. I checked Fowlers website for a replacement switch/bolts if all else fails, and the parts no longer seem to be available. For now I just needs to wiggle the key to make the lights come on, but I'm not sure how this will far at MOT time.
Cheers
