Thank you for all your kind messages gentlemen.

Quick update third parties insurance have agreed the repairs and i have a new fairing rear mudguard and footrest and engine bars being fitted to return my fazer back to mint condition.

The only problem is i have lost a bit of character of the bike as the stone chip i got in the pyrenees on tour in spain will be gone forever because of the new fairing!

Sorry to say but I have become the latest victim of fazer down.

Waiting in the traffic queue on Bristol bridge  in Bristolnfor the lights to change about six cars back from the red light and crunch I am sent up in the air five foot and my mint fazer 2002 foxeye is lying in the road like a dying fly.

Anyway after five minutes of claiming myself down I managed to get my Fazer to the side of the road not wanting to look at the damage as it would break my heart with my right leg and my back very sore.

I exchanged details with said woman driver who didn't  want to join the smidsy club but told me she had missed the brake pedal which I already knew as it was my Fazer that stopped her car,

24 hours later I am still sore but I have had her insurance company contact me an authorise me to get the bike repaired up to 75% of the agree value which is £1750.

The really good news is that I rode the bike home and had a look round it and because the engine bars took the biggest smack I think it can be repaired with a new rear mudguard  rear footrest and a maybe a fairing as it is scratched but it is only a chip the size of a five pence so if it means not writing bike off I will happily use some touch up paint. It will also need a new silencer but I got one so will fit that

I was very unlucky to get hit but my bike will live to ride again. Now just a case of rubbing in deep heat for the rider

Hi Hightower

I bought a cb500 ten years ago which was ten years old then with 10k miles on for £800.

Ten years on it has 56k on the clock lives outside in all weathers and  has passed every MOT and apart from consumables the only thing i have done to it is put a starter motor from ebay at £40 on it.

It gives me no less than 55mpg and is great fun to ride.

Of course it is not the best looking but is like a flea bitten old dog and i love to bits.

It may not be your cup of tea but if you want something cheap very reliable it may offer what you are looking for.

Regards

Hi Everybody I was wondering if any of you have been to the York railway museum lately. All the A4 class trains are there together on display to celebrate Mallards stream record of 126mph which was set 75 years ago this week. The engineering on trains are something I got to see. I am planning a trip up from Wiltshire this week  on the fazer and just wondered if anybody has been there recently

I saw this on the BBC website and seriously thought about making the trip - i thought it just a bit too far from North Kent, but Wiltshire is just as far isn't it? Would love to see them altogether.
Steve there are two ways to York for me which is interesting sightseeing route which according to route planner is 244 miles but the most direct route which is up the fosseway and on the M1 is 209 miles so I am going to set of early on the most direct route just on this occasion to get the job done and have maximum time in the museum

Pete you are so lucky to have been around in those times. When I was born the Somerset and Dorset railway had only two weeks to run before closure. My father very kindly put me in a pram and we made a trip before it closed. I think that's where my interest in old railway lines and stations and engines come from.
When Beeching wielded his axe over the railway system in this country of course he did not have the benefit of hindsight but how useful would some of those old lines be to us now?

Flying Scotsman is at the York railway museum but it is in the workshop waiting for a refurb.
Imagine what it would have been like to see Mallard and Flying Scotsman back in the day when they where in service or even to have travelled on them.
I sometimes wonder what we have now that future generations will want to visit in a museum and say that must have been amazing to have been part of that in 2013!

Breathed a huge sigh of relief when my good friend Brian skillfully managed to not only drill out a exhaust stud that had snapped off flush when i took the exhaust off to spray the downpipes but this stud also contained a snapped off easy out.

And the great thing was that he saved the threads and did it with the engine still in the bike minus the forks and radiator.

Phew what a relief!

General / What's the best biking bargain you've ever had?
« on: 09 November 2012, 04:33:12 pm »
Hi Everone

With the NEC show coming up i wonder what is the best bargain you've ever had at the show or anywhere to do with bikes?

Five years ago i bought a waterproof textile jacket from the Truimph stand at the NEC for £25 which has served me summer and winter since and is still waterproof and looking like new. Absolute bargain and top quality.

Has anybody else picked up a Biking bargain?

Bought a 1994 cb500 in 2005 for £1000 with 8000 miles on. It has now done 59000 miles.

In the seven and half years the bike has lived outside and been ridden through winter and with the exception of routine maintenance i haven't spent a penny on it or even had a advisory on an M.O.T.

It's mighty close to being as good a motorcycle as a fzs600 fazer.

Without doubt the best £1000 i ever spent on a motorcycle and it's still going strong and looking good.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Is anybody going touring this year
« on: 28 May 2012, 10:30:09 pm »
Spoonman i have got european breakdown insurance with my insurance which is through Carole Nash. Everybody who insures through Carole Nash gets this if you insure with them. You just have to tell them where and when you are going.
When i was in France last year I had a nasty incident with my beloved CB1300s which meant staying in a French Hospital and having a operation. Of course i took an E111 which covered me but i was also using the travel insurance which i pay for with my Nat West bank account and they were brillant arranging a flight home and then a Taxi home from the airport which was sixty miles. They also took care of various bills that the French hospital sent me afterwards.
One note of caution if you or anybody have this travel insurance with the bank they only cover you if you have a clean licence which i found out in the Hospital bed. Luckily i did.
This information may be of some help or totally useless to you but i would love to see some photos when you get back if you would be kind enough to post.

FZS600 Fazer / Is anybody going touring this year
« on: 28 May 2012, 07:48:35 pm »
Hi Everybody
Just wondered if anybody is doing any seroius distance on their bikes this year and where are you going.
Starting August i am going through France over into Italy to do the Mont Blanc tunnel and Stevio pass back into France to the Milau Bridge and a couple of days in the south then over into Spain to catch the ferry home from Santander.
Two weeks of  fun, memories, wonderful sights, food and mickey taking as the rest of the lads are on Harleys!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: MPG
« on: 30 April 2012, 12:16:39 pm »
I decided to see what my Fazer was doing Miles Per Gallon and carried out a very scientific test to find out.

I rode from my house in Wiltshire to Blackpool to watch a football match which was 214 miles but when i did this i kept to the speed limit. This journey was 44 miles on fast A roads. The rest was all on motorway.

When i got to Blackpool i filled up and the managed to squeeze 14 litres in which was an average of 69.49mpg.

Later that day i rode home but this time i rode at 85mph all the way down the motorway as there was little traffic and then for the last 44 miles went for it a bit on the A roads.

Filled up and this time the bike took 18 litres which worked out at 54 mpg.

Just proves that the Fazer will return good mpg when ridden with a fairly heavy right hand and excellent mpg when riding with common sense.

General / Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?!
« on: 25 April 2012, 10:50:31 am »
Got a pair of Alpinestars Web Goretex which are absolutely superb. I have worn these for four years and about 25 thousand miles and they are totally waterproof.

Had a spill in them last year and they saved me serious injury.

The only slight problem is the tread is quite warn so i have to be carefull when putting my foot down in the wet.

Just bought a pair of Hein Gericke ankle boots that look like trainers which are goretex so hoping they will be as waterproof as the Alpinestars
