Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Charging problems
« on: 11 September 2022, 12:11:03 pm »
Had to cut a ride short this morning. lost the clocks and indicators and when i stopped switched off it wouldn`t start again. fine this morning on cold start, stopped for fuel no problem then about 12 miles into the ride i lost rev counter and speedo but fuel gauge still working. bumped it to get it going but not too happy on tick over. open roads home so kept it in a lower gear with the revs up and got home. had a look and battery reads 12.4 volts. start up with a jump from a spare battery and no increase in volts even holding the revs at 5000 rpm. checked all conections, earth on the started motor was fine but the small white connector on top of the battery wasn`t quite pushed all the way home, bit corroded as well, cleaned up and back together now. checked the white connector under the tank and is good. a nice fit and clean. checked the reg/rec connector which was also clean. then removed the infill fairing on the left and checked the two black connector blocks. one of them is a bit corroded but IMO not enough to cause a problem. Cleaned now and back together, Battery on charge at the moment but i obviously have a problem...Iam thinking the rec/reg is not doing its job...Your thoughts please foccers

FZS600 Fazer / steam powered boxeye ?
« on: 05 July 2020, 06:14:27 pm »
my trusty 98 600 boxeye has developed a problem...it sounds as if its steam powered, its had a bit of a whining gearbox since i bought it approx 18 years ago, today i fitted new chain and sprockets and this has highlighted the sound, pulling away and changing up through the box it sounds like a steam engine until wind noise drowns it out, chain is properly adjusted, with the sprockets inline and with the correct amount of slack. (30-40mm )...looking back through the service history before i owned it, it mentions the chain was way too tight so i thinking ive got a bit of play in the output shaft bearing maybe caused by the tight chain all those years ago...new front sprocket (jt) was a very snug fit and i think i would have noticed any play but i think my first  job will be to remove the sprocket cover, remove the chain and check for any play....your thoughts please foccers

General / tyre life
« on: 12 April 2020, 09:39:18 am »
having just replaced a tyre valve on my 600 a few days ago the tyre is now flat, i have not used the bike since so am now thinking the tyre may have come to the end of its life, time wise, not usually a problem for me as i usually wear the tread out before i start to worry about tyre age, but not doing the mileage now compared to what i used to do...tyre is just over 7 years old...how long should they last ?...

thats got to change this year as i have a problem thats put me off the road so if i want to enjoy long days in the saddle next spring / summer i got to get out there are get things sorted now....

thought i would start this thread as a bit of kick up the backside for me and also maybe to help others who are doing the same....

General / shorten after market end can
« on: 10 June 2019, 12:58:54 pm »
Been thinking about this for a while now , as we all know the standard  can is a bit bland , quite and heavy , I have a scorpion can which is a lot lighter but about the same length , with the baffle in its not much louder tham the standard one , with it out its way too loud , more or less straight through , which is great when I want to let off steam  :lol

so was thinking of drilling the rivits out and cutting a lump off  , shortening the baffle at the same time , my understanding is "the shorter the can the louder its going to be" not sure if this is correct or not but sounds good   :rolleyes

anyone done this before ?   How much do i cut off ? Or do i leave both of them on there   ;)

General / roadside puncture repair
« on: 01 September 2018, 09:43:47 am »
Ive been lucky with punctures but this week I managed to pick up an inch woodscrew in the rear tyre , left it in an rode home 25 ish miles , just about got home with 12 psi left........got up early this morning and thought I would have a go at repairing it with one of the two ŕoad side repair kits I have ,  one a crafty pluggef and the other a FOWLERS version of the same thing , used the fowlers one following the inst
ructions and in about 10 minutes the jobs done , didnt use the air canisters , I'll save them if I ever get stuck in the middld of  nowhere , I recently bought a SLIME compressor to use with the repair kits , connects to the bikes battery and easily pumps the tyre up to recòmended pressure , just a shame both items dont fit under the seat....I'll let the pictures do the talking but happy to answer any questions......well it is FOCU     ;)
