i saw that on a peruse too. And also wondered about the three owners.
I got the same dilemma as you now VNA. Ive got my fazer back, but have only ridden it once. Trouble is ive been useing the xjr13 through the glorious weather and i like riding a big grunty nekkid. I guess that'll change when the weather does
I ride in a pisspot all the time now, at around 70-80. The xjr is fine for that. I dont really go any quicker on the thou, despite its half fairing. last winter, I was useing my Harley more. 45mph with my heated jacket on in a pisspot is actually better in the cold than 70-80 on a sportsbike. for me anyhoo.

good idea.  :thumbup
i did me own clean up version, but i can see the merits of the thunderbox

They are good brakes normally for oe. Might be worth checking your discs. Even a tiny warp will push the pads back meaning every time you brake your lever will come back loads before they bite

Agreed dude. I put one on mine and it definately helped if yours has a low down tiny stutter, but i dunno if it was worth the money in truth. A reflash at bsd tuning was though.

yup. no rubber engine mounts for this old bugger. And a big ol 42mm flatslide to really up the ante on lumpy low down. I stopped at a burger bar last summer, and a bloke with a mahoosive KTm told me all the mods he had done to get it to nearly 200bhp. I said 'I know just what you mean, ive got open slash cuts, 42mm mikuni, stage two coil and leads, performance lumpy cam and its nearly double the horsepower of the stock motor!!'
Sadly, bone stock and strangled as they were for the uk market back in the nineties, it made 38bhp. Thats quite the achievement for 1340 cc dontcha think? :lol :lol :lol

Riding back from visiting dads grave today, early evening in the fens under a sky full of dark clouds. Then the sun broke through a gap. That 1996 evo Fatboy Looks as good as the day it was built imho

airhawks are brilliant, without a doubt. Me and the missus wouldnt have done our France/spain tour without them, and that was on a cb1300, which had a fairly well padded perch.
I had a fazer thou that we both loved, and went for a fz-1. Its what it is really, a flat barred sports bike. I tried a french 'comfort' seat, and it mullered my bollocks within ten miles. In the end I went back to a gen one. Its an old story, but sadly, its a true one for a lot of blokes. Just depends what you want out of your bike :)

Yeah, people like me. :lol   Now where the heck did I put my pipe cleaner.

To be fair, you had kind of excluded yourself from your description of BMW riders by implying that they were no longer purely for that kind of person. But even if you do see yourself in that way (which I find highly unlikely) I'm sure that many owners would find what you wrote really quite rude and offensive.

BMW’s did used to, for quite some time, have a reputation of being the sensible option.  The gentleman’s steed.  As opposed to the brash new, look at me, go faster bad boy Japanese bikes.  And have you ever seen the BMW club roll into your town?  Plenty of beards, half face helmets and yes pipes.

I’m sure we can all agree that BMW has changed quite radically over the last 15 years.  Well I think so.  Or I dunno, I am in my 50’s now – and I’m riding a boxer. :eek

I ride an old Harley and theres still a lot of people out there riding stuff like my bike because they are wannabe outlaws etc,
I always imagine that once you have placed your order for your new Harley at your local HD dealer, they then say “step this way Sir” and lead one through to the outlaw clothing department.
:lol :lol :lol :thumbup

Okay, I'll start the ball rolling....
Yes, a gen 1 deffo needs the exup, on my old blue one it seized open and it was gutless at lower revs...
that oughta do it.
Next!

I wouldnt have thought so mate, in all seriousness. The days when any off us takes ourselves seriously are long gone aint they? VNAs signature is as self effacing as they come and then some. I ride an old Harley and theres still a lot of people out there riding stuff like my bike because they are wannabe outlaws etc, but I know they are wankers, they know they are wankers, and they probably undoubtably know I'm a wanker too cos I ride one just because I like engineering from the ark. :) :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

My remote adjuster is mounted off the pillion footpeg. It's got to be somewhere accessible for ease of use, otherwise there's no point in having it.
Or one could just purchase a new BMW with Dynamic ESA.  My active suspension is constantly monitoring road conditions and tweaking the damping to suit.  It also monitors weight and automatically adjusts pre-load to suit – so no remote adjuster to faff about with, or spoil the lines of the bike.  BMW – what what!   :D

Anyway, I wouldn’t get too excited about that mock up.  It’s rough and ready, probably knocked up by a desperate bike journo needing a story during lockdown, and even if it did originate from Yamaha, it’ll just be put out to gauge reaction.

What is more interesting is Yamaha’s talk of turbo chargers.
I mean look what turbos have done for cars
Its funny how beemer bikes used to look like oddballs next to their japanese counterparts. Now it the opposite. BMWs look like 'proper' motorbikes, whilst a lot of the jap bikes look like summat off a kids cartoon strip, with odd angles and bits of plastic flying off in every direction.

plus one for the speed twin btw. I know the street/speed triples are fantastic bikes, but the speed twin edges it for me with all things considered. and it looks like a proper bike... :lol
I've got my Fazer thou back. Had some brilliant rides on the xjr while it was gone, but nothing tops the thou for me.

Yamaha have certainly made some well loved models. Apart from the Fazers and the FJ1100/1200, I'm thinking of the TDMs. Some very keen owners out there.
also the xjrs... ;)
yup. after nearly fifty years of biking im a definate yamaha man now. Along with the hardly dangerous, obvs....

i envy you. I couldnt believe how sweet the the thing ran. Back in the day I wanted a RD400, but this little honda is worlds apart, feels almost hand built. Taking the carbs off was a different ballgame entirely to the 750, so much thought has gone into every part of its design and build. It deserves its iconic status and then some

Cheers VNA :)
unfazed the davidas are the mutts right enough mate, ive always struggled with carb balancers, but these make it laughably easy. theres a second hand set on the  bay now, ive put a bid in coz if they go cheap enough ill have em as spares.

btw im thinking of going on 'dragons den' with the 'speshul tool' i've invented, developed after years and years of R and D, to 'gently and carefully' ease a four bank back into the stubs... :) :lol ;)
I pulled me bloody back struggling to get me fazer thou ones in the last time I had em out, bugger that... ;)

well, the drain screws in the float bowls were facing the wrong way, and the o rings around the main jets and float valve bodies were all focced. So, he'd dropped the float bowls in situ, then forced the new jets etc in blind with no o ring grease, guillotining the outer edge off so bady it looks like it has two o rings in some cases. The carb kits he got were cheapies, so Im going to get new o rings and refit the original Keihin stuff...bike only has 11,000 on it so they should be fine

in the van and back to one very happy owner and pick up the next one. Im really looking forward to getting the 400 going again. I last rode this bike several years ago, and it was just like the ex owners all said...a mechanical little marvel, much nicer to ride than the 750.. Then the local bike shop fucked about with  the carbs (just before they went bust)and it hasnt run since. apparently he didnt even take them off so whatever he did wrong cant be too drastic. theres some gt380 carbs in the box to clean too
