FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Finally!
« on: 05 January 2018, 02:32:13 pm »
Hello.

I have an FZ6 S2. The Vin number is stamped on the headstock in the casting. Mine starts YJARJ142*********. Mine is a UK bike.

Hope that helps, if you need anything else just shout up, happy to help.

Thanks, all sorted now. Seller sent me a photo of the VIN plate on the bike, which matches the alphabet soup on the Carte Gris.  AXA insurance in France have a good efficient English speaking office who were really helpful. They've even added me to the seller's policy until my paperwork is sorted out!

Fec. Why didn't I see that. I would have bought it to keep at my doer upper in 53. I would keep it French registered and insure it in France (and leave it there too) for when I am out there.

Where is your place in Britany? a few of us on here have places in France.

I will be keeping it on the French plate. Our place is about 30mins ride inland from Vannes, a few km out of Malestroit.

Hi all,
After lots of delays, I've bought a train ticket to go and complete the deal on my French Fazer tomorrow.
Looking forward to getting my Fazer at last!

General / Re: Do you use a GPS on holidays by bike

I use maps for getting between towns.
I use GPS for finding specific places in towns, because trundling 3 times round a one way system at the end of a long ride gets a bit wearing, and if you lose your bed because you were late for check-in, causes a lot of swearing.

Yes, I need a NOVA certificate from HMRC. No tax duty payable on an import from an EU country, but as you say, the VAT may well be. Fortunately, I got the bike for a keen price so that won't be too big a bill if it is applicable.

Are you going to keep it French registered, or transfer it to a UK reg? If the latter watch out for UK VAT to be paid....

Was hoping to keep it French, but now discover that since I'm not a French resident, it could get messy with the French bureaucracy trying to register it to my French address...  :rolleyes

The bike is already here with the seller in the UK, so would VAT be applicable still?

Also discovered I'll be needing mph on the speedo dial if I want to UK register it. Anyone know whether a stick-on is good enough for MOT or will I have to fit a new dial face? What about beam pattern in headlights??

Yep! That pretty much covers it  :lol
Cheap Mod but very effective

Talking of cheap, my ebay seller has just informed me that the odometer reading of 52,000 he put on the listing is Km, not miles, which makes this a low mileage bike for the money.  :)

France eh!!  Left hand drive then you will have to get it converted :lol

You mean I'll have to flick the Vs at errant cagers with my right hand rather than my left?  :b

Morning all,

Just bought a 2003 foxeye off Ebay. I was the only bidder, probably because it's French registered. That suits me, as I'm doing up a house in southern Brittany, and need  to commute from Leeds on something which uses less juice than my ancient 4L Ford Aerostar van!

It looks reasonably tidy, but the photos aren't that great...Cue moody photo

Anyway, I've been reading around the forum and it looks like there's a wealth of knowledge here. I'm already on the lookout for an R6 rear shock, as I'm a 16 stone tallbloke. This is only my second 4cyl bike, the last was a Z650 back in 1982. In between I've mostly been riding big twins:

Norton Commando I bought for £350 (It had been stuffed into a police car and the owner wanted rid quick)
Guzzi Spada 1000 (Took it round Europe, and the clock, twice)
BMW R1100GS (Crashed it spectacularly when I met a car which was on the wrong side of the road on a bend)
BMW R850R (Nice enough, but a bit dull)

Now wanting some fun as well as a reliable mile muncher, and on a tight budget, so here I come. I'll be picking the bike up from London in a week or so.
