Haha! Loving the resultant 'discussion' from this advert.

Everyone knows that blue ones are the fastest! I sprayed it black so it became a 'sleeper' :p

Poor deluded soul.  ;)

Deluded? How dare you!!!   :eek

The reason you never see black ones on the road is because they're so unstable they always end up in bushes or under cows or cars. Something to do with the impossibility of an even paint job.

I don't have the exact figure but it's between 37-38000 miles.

FZS600 AutoTrader Advert

I've decided to sell my FZS600. It's been a good workhorse and has served me well for the last 6 years however, it needs some work and money put into it to get it shipshape again and as we're selling our house I just don't have the time or money to get it back on the road. Plus, when we move and I finally have a garage I want a new bike. I've priced it at £550 for a quick sale and to have enough for my wife and I to pay for tandem parachute jumps next year to celebrate our 5th anniversary.

A few things of note:
I dropped it about 5 years ago and broke the original nose fairing. As I couldn't source a blue one for love nor money I decided to just get any colour and spray the whole bike black, I did everything but the tank as you can see from the pictures.

May 2010. I was knocked off at very low speed. I was waiting to turn into a side street however, the numpty who wanted to pull out of the street decided not to wait and hit me side on. My right foot took the impact and the bike fell onto the left side. My left leg took the brunt of the fall though I did manage to snap the clutch lever (replaced) and scratch the engine casing. I had the bike checked over by a local mechanic who could find no faults other than what I've mentioned.

It's the box-eye model and has had the light modification done so both lights illuminate.

It has a Delkevic can on it and has passed several MOTs with it installed. I don't have the original can.

It has a donor engine installed that has covered roughly 15000 miles. It's fair to say it's coming up to service time (carbs etc) but was running fine, if a little lumpy at low speed, when I put it into storage about a year ago.

The original engine is included in the sale. It's covered roughly 35000 miles and it was replaced due to the drive shaft being stripped when the sprocket was changed.

There is no battery. I foolishly left it in the bike when I put it into storage and it won't charge.

I have a spare rear wheel that I can include in the sale, though please be aware that it still has the original brake disc installed as one of the bolts snapped when I tried to remove it.

The bike will also be sold with a top box and mount, and I also have dominator headlights and mounts if you have the urge to street fighter it.

For most of its life it was stored outside under two covers. For the past year it has been in my father-in-law's garage.

It has a belly pan, hugger & radiator guard fitted.

***The bike is in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear***

Any questions, please ask.

Thanks, regards
Carl

A mate of mine swears by his Tornado. I've had a couple of blasts on it and it definitely hits your throat. Plenty flavours too.

Not sure how the 3rd one could be delt with, other than stop early and let them go first, I know some scum-bag areas and they all drive like To**ers and if im in those areas I am even more on my guard.

There was nothing I could do. I was just pulling away from standstill as I'd waited for an oncoming car to pass before turning into the street. The lad who hit me didn't appear to even slow down, he just pulled out and into me. I later found out he's a delivery driver for a local drug dealer so I think he simply wasn't concentrating on the road. I also think he would have hit and run were it not (thankfully) for a few other people blocking his route with their cars. Following his collision with me I later found out he'd previously served a driving ban and also wrote his own car off (rolled it) 5 days after hitting me after narrowly missing a child. Not bad for someone in their early 20s. I dread to think what his insurance must cost.  :eek

3 offs so far since completing the CBT in 2007.

1. 6 weeks after completing the CBT I was approaching a mini roundabout. To my right the view is blocked by a brick wall, however as it was dark I thought I'd be able to see the headlights of any oncoming traffic. I could, but it was too late to react properly when some old chav in a scrapper came flying along at 50+ (30 roads), I panicked and grabbed a fist full of brake. Over the handlebars I went, doing my best impression of Superman.

Lesson(s) learned: Slow down and be prepared to stop.

2. New Year's Eve 2009. A lovely clear morning when I left for work 15 miles away; an absolutely beautiful day for a ride. Unfortunately while I was at work it began to snow. And it snowed and snowed... By the time I left at 21:00 there was about 6 - 8" of snow. Kit on, take it slow, should be fine. It was for most of the journey but I then noticed a 3 series BMW sitting right on my backside. I tried to gesture to him so many times to overtake me but he just sat there, roughly 5 metres behind me. As we approached a junction that has red light cameras the lights started to change to red. I panicked, worrying about 3 points and the guy sitting on backside. The front wheel then went AWOL and I slid over the stop line with the bike on my leg. I tried to get out from under the bike but kept slipping on the snow so I turned to the bloke sitting in the BMW and tried to signal that I needed help. He just sat there with his arms folded. I was lucky in that a woman and her son came round the corner and they helped to get the bike off me and upright in the gutter. As soon as the road was clear the bloke in the BMW drove away. Thankfully, the woman who helped me had a friend who lived in one of the corner houses at the junction and I was able to leave my bike there for a couple of weeks. There was also a young lad in a Corsa who offered me a lift the rest of the way home.

Lesson(s) learned: Sweeping generalisation: People in 3 series BMWs are dicks! Don't ride in the snow if I don't have to, although I had to on this occasion.

3. May 2010. About a month after getting the bike back on the road following the New Year's eve spill I was heading up to a mate's for an afternoon of FIFA. I was close to his when I had to stop before turning right into a side street. Unfortunately the lad who was pulling out decided not to wait for me and just ploughed his (mate's) Volvo into the side of me. My right foot took the brunt of the hit and my left leg stopped the bike from breaking too much as it toppled over.

Lesson(s) learned: Uninsured scratters don't pay much attention to the road when they're carrying/delivering drugs for their associates.

Being closer to, or further away from, the sun has got foc all to do with it. The difference, in percentage terms, is tiny.

What is important, is the tilt from the vertical axis. Think on a beam of light, and for arguments sake, every beam of light is a foot wide. When that beam of light is aimed squarely at a surface, it covers an area a foot wide - but if you start to tilt the surface it's hitting, it suddenly covers a bigger area. So the energy it contains is spread thinner, less energy for a given area, hence it's cooler.

When we're tilted towards the sun, we have summer, and vice versa.

In addition, the northern hemisphere is also closer to the sun during 'our' winter.

I met a young lady in the club the other night. Surprisingly we hit it off really well and spent the night dancing together. At the end of the night I asked her if she'd like to grab a coffee to which she replied she was sorry but she was on her period cycle. I said "That's OK love, I'll follow you on my Fazer."

General / Re: When did you pass your test and how difficult was it?
« on: 27 August 2013, 03:59:06 pm »
I passed my test in September 2008. I passed first time but was definitely quite fortunate as although I'd never been to Hartlepool and therefore didn't know any of the roads, it was said to be one of the easiest centres to pass at because it was too far away from any NSL roads so all you did was a little town riding. On the morning of my test the weather was looking ominous and I really wasn't looking forward to the emergency stop in the pissing rain, but again fortune was on my side and it remained dry. After the stop, I moved the bike into the side of the road and the examiner asked whether I had applied the rear brake, I hadn't until the bike was completely stopped but said I had and he seemed to believe me. Then just as we're about to pull away the heavens opened and the rain fell heavily. Phew! I passed with 4 minors.

My car test was only a couple of years ago and both my instructor and myself think I passed before I even got out of the test centre. My examiner had been drafted in from elsewhere and it turned out he was a biker himself. He mentioned that he'd noticed I had cat A on my licence and asked me if was getting rid of the bike, I replied that I was only taking my car test as my first daughter had just been born and it would be frowned upon if I carried her in the top box. He said "Thank foc for that, I thought you were getting soft!" We spent the whole test talking about bikes and it's amazing how relaxed that drive was.

You can also check the front wheel bearings by holding the wheel at the top and seeing if there's any movement from side to side.  :)

FZS600 Fazer / Slight Oil Leak
« on: 13 August 2013, 02:15:34 pm »
While tinkering with the bike at the weekend I noticed a slight oil leak coming from the r/h side and seeing as I'm doing an oil change this weekend I've bought a new gasket to fit. Question is, would it also be advisable to use something along the lines of hylomar when I fit the new gasket?

Picture shows where the leak is:

It was something to do with only adjusting the original brake switch from one extreme to the other.

The replacement was only a couple of twists from perfect.  :oops    :lol

Update & Resolution: Problem was down to a combination of the rear brake switch and a special moment on my part.  :o :o :o

Nothing to see here, move along.  :lol

Update: If I disconnect the rear brake switch the lights go out. I've adjusted the rear switch to both extremes and nothing is helping. Could there be a short elsewhere that is causing this?

FZS600 Fazer / Tail lights on all of the time.
« on: 11 August 2013, 11:21:51 am »
I've been working on my ol' boxeye; replacing the shock and opening the headlight unit to see why my headlight was pointing up and why it wouldn't adjust. I've put everything back together and now my tail light is constantly illuminated even when my lights are switched off. Aside from this there's no response (in the light) when I engage either the front or rear brake. I thought it might be a stuck brake switch but the light is definitely just 'tail light bright' and not as bright as when the brakes are engaged. I did also replace the rear brake switch as the original was a little corroded, though this was changed after I noticed the problem with the lights.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to spend another week stuck in A1 traffic!  :D

They're resurfacing Testo's roundabout up here and it's a nightmare at the moment, even worse than it usually is. In the past couple of weeks I've seen two wrecked bikes; one bike in particular looked like it would never be used on the road again. Haven't seen anything in the local news about either crash so hopefully neither of the riders have been badly hurt. Then this morning with the combination of new surface and first proper rain I got some sideways action but managed to keep it shiny side up. Glad I'd packed some spare boxers all the same.  :lol

You're all very welcome! It's always good to share free stuffs.

Thanks +1.

Gotta love dropdown boxes which only have one option: UK. WTF ? :rollin

I have to admit I had a good chuckle at that.  :lol
