Just fit a split link chain.  Save you taking the swing arm out.
And fit a Scottoiler - saves you getting tight spots.  :D

Another wee thing about the street triple RS.  Well it comes with those track day tyres.  Weirdly the weather has been perfect for them since the second week in May with just the exception a few days here and there.  But this ain’t our usual summer.  And anyway I want a tyre that will grip no matter what the weather.

When I asked if I could swap the silly tyres for something more sensible should I purchase I was told they would happily sell me a replacement pair and I could sell my unused track day tyres myself.  He talked some nonsense about tyre traceability, and that they are not allowed to sell them.

Fazersharp - there was no mention of reserving cash on my credit card. To be honest I wouldn't be too keen on that.

Shit happens, and obviously they are likely to have an excess on their insurance.  It actually makes sense to have a steep excess, but two grand!

Now if things did go pear shaped, I think it’s only fair that their excess is covered, but if it’s a light spill it’s reasonable to agree the repair bill.  If they have reserved the dosh then they can help themselves to whatever they want up to 2 grand in the event of a miss-hap.

With your license and NI number they can go onto the DVLA website and log in to fully check your license.

That method is a bit naughty of them
That’s a very good point Hugh, and thanks for pointing that out.  I’ll be providing a code for any test rides.  Cheers.

Been toying with the idea of a new bike for a couple of years now, but not yet done anything about it.  And of course, my gen1 thou is still delivering the goods.

So is the 2 grand excess just a Triumph thing, or is this the standard?

Took the old bike for it’s MOT today.  Passed nae bother.

While it was being MOTed I wandered doon tae the Honda dealer a few streets away.  The new CB1000R looks smashing.  They had a demo model too.

So after my MOT, I thought I’d have a sniff around another dealer or two.  Wandered into the new Triumph dealer just outside Glasgow (no signs of austerity here - focs sake!).  I’m taken with the street triple rs.  I mean it looks good, it’s seriously light, I mean seriously light, the riding position seems easy going enough and the figures suggest it should have plenty of poke.  One wonders if this bike is trying to make litre and litre plus nakeds redundant.

Anyway sales person came over.  Next thing I know he’s offering me a test ride, but he needed my NI number as well as my license apparently – so was no go today.  Seeing as I almost ended up on a test ride I thought I’d ask about the insurance position.  He said we check your license, if it’s valid and you’ve been riding over a year, you got a valid NI number, then off you go insured by us.  OK says I, what about the excess – noting this information wasn’t automatically offered – 2 grand he says.  2 foccing grand! Foc me.

So just wondering – is that typical.  What’s the going rate?

Anyway bikes I’m drooling over, and in order of preference;
CB1000R
Street Triple RS  (though comes with silly track day tyres)

The OE seat is fine when new, but after a few years the foam sags and bum ache quickly sets in.
I got mine upgraded and recovered many years ago by P&P seating ltd.  So long ago in fact that it could do wi being recovered again.  Anyway, they upgraded it by using one of their gel packs which doesn’t sag like foam, so many years later it’s still comfy mile after mile, except;
At the mo it’s too hot tae ride to work in full leathers, so just got my jeans on.  I get to work and then the bike sits outside all day in the sun.  So that gel pack has all day to absorb the heat from the sun.  My arse gets foccing toasted on the ride back hame.

As you've got a manual tensioner, you might get premature wear if you don't get the tension right.Mine still has the original tensioner, but she's only done 35,000 miles.

I believe DID ZVM is the OE chain for the FZS1000.
I use a Scottoiler, after 17,000 miles with a new ZVM chain I can’t detect any measurable stretch in it, no tight spots either.  Popped a new Renthal front sprocket in, so should be good for another 17,000 miles.
The only other thing I’d say is that if you are replacing an OE spec front sprocket with a third-party sprocket expect a good bit more transmission noise.  The Yamaha OE sprocket was silly money last time I checked.

Had them since I started wearing glasses 8 years ago.
Brilliant.  Though you get what you pay for.  It’s worthwhile paying for the higher quality ones which will give you the decent peripheral vison that you seek.  My day to day glasses are top quality, but my safety glasses at work have cheap lenses, I get by with them but the difference is clear.
You do have to work them, and at first you might find em a pain, but if you stick with it it’ll become second nature.  I think they are brilliant.
I do have separate reading glasses for reading books etc – it’s just more pleasant.
Also keep my original reading glasses from 8 years ago for photo work on the computer – they now make ideal short to mid distance glasses – ie ideal for working at a screen.
And a pair of 3 quid, slightly more powerful than my reading glasses for hill walking – great for getting the detail of maps, and no need to worry aboot them getting squashed in ma pocket.

« on: 24 April 2018, 06:01:34 pm »
For a variety of reasons, I’ve not had much use out of my bike the last few years, and I don’t tend to ride in winter.

I think my current battery is about 4 years old and still OK.  I think it’s a Yuasa gel pack type.  It sits in the bike over winter (no alarm or immobiliser) and I take it out and give it a charge 30 or 40 mins on a basic cheapo Draper charger every other month.

I think your immobilizer is probably killing your battery.  You could measure the current drain using a basic multi-meter.

But if you ain’t using the bike over winter, take the battery out and just give it a charge now and again and you should get a good few years’ service out of it.  If you don’t give it a wee charge now and again, even sitting on the bench it will eventually go flat.

I then brought those linked to in Toolstation and they do work very well but as has been said the mouse gets soaked in pis and sh1t and all of that then gets stuck in the mechanism which is then a disgusting mess to clean before you can re use it.

I just used a bucket of warm soapy water and a toothbrush.  Pish and shit cleaned up nae bother, but the peanut butter took a bit of scrubbing.

Just make sure you clean your toothbrush thoroughly afterwards before brushing yer teeth.

 Simpler version of Tommy’s trap.

! No longer available

A beer can would be ideal.  If you don’t want to drown em you still need a little water to reduce their ability to jump, they are really good jumpers when they need to be.
As for traditional mouse traps, these are good as the bait pot is recessed, https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Cleaning+%26+Pest+Control/d260/Pest+Control/sd3217/Sure-Set+Mouse+Trap/p26996 so they gotta stick their nose in, and the trap gets em on the heid or neck every time (so I’m told!).
Be careful with your traps, they break yer fingers.

You could use a 'humane' trap.

https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p60863?r=googleshopping&rr=marin&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googleshoppingfeed&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzvLRy_272gIVzbHtCh3_0AFGEAQYAiABEgIqN_D_BwE

Having said that I caught mine during a cold snap.   They seemed a little slow in the morning, looked to be soaking in their own sweat and piss - must be distressing to be stuck in a trap for hours.  Then got dumped in a field in the middle of nowhere.  Lots of folks said, they’ll be fine, but I dunno.

Traditional trap is cheap, quick and effective.

For real sadists there are the various versions of the DIY water trap.  Though you can make a ‘humane’ version with just enough water to stop em jumping out of the bucket but not enough to drown em.

They came into my house under the floor boards during the cold weather this winter.  Heard them one night.  Got some traps and peanut butter the next day.  Caught two in humane traps and released some distance away, one other got snared in a conventional trap.  All sorted in under 48hrs.

So come on then -everything is all our fault for voting for our government. So please can you tell me who I should vote for next time. What is your answer to the worlds problems the WE have created by constantly voting for the wrong government. And if you say "we get the government we deserve" I swear I am going to throw my focing computer out the window.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, our support of Israel.  Our allies, the IS supporting and funding Saudi’s.   Our arms trade – we’ll sell to pretty much anybody.

The UK in so many ways is a pretty shitty country.  Our government rightly condemns terrorism, but fails to acknowledge it’s own export of terrorism.

And don’t start me on Brexit.  I know why people voted to leave the EU, it’s because they feel cheated, and they have been cheated, cheated by the last 30 years neo-liberal politics.  But that’s not the fault of the EU – it’s our collective fault.  (BREXIT - did I just say BREXIT  :rolleyes )

Taxation and austerity.  Our failure, or our governments failure, to collect corporation taxes, and now talk of further rising personal taxation to save our NHS.  This is a rich country, but the devide between rich and poor continues to grow and grow and grow.

How to change things?  Well don’t wait for the next vote.

I think you will find there are far more recent refugees in Germany than the UK

And Europes refugee issue is nothing compared some middle eastern countries refugee issues.

Lebannon;

population - 6 million.

No. of Syrian refugees in Lebannon - 1.1 million
No. of Palestian refugees in Lebannon - 350,000

Of course we, along with the US and others, back the Islamic fundamentalist groups trying to overthrow Assad.
Putin's Russia backs Assad.  Anybody in the way gets killed.

Total deaths in Syrian war estimated at over 500,000
6 million internally displaced.
5 million externally displaced.
