For Sale & Wanted / FZS600 Delkevic tri-oval silencer and link pipe
« on: 29 March 2018, 02:10:27 pm »

I have for sale a Delkevic end can and link pipe to the fzs600. All stainless and in extremely good condition, no dents or scratches. It's done around 5000 miles but after a clean it's come up like new.
It's the 320mm tri-oval type. Looks and sounds great. Has a removable baffle but it's a bit too loud without it in my opinion. Includes link pipe, hanger and everything you'll need to fit it. Have a look at the photo's, you'll see it's in great condition.

Open to offers.
Postage will be around £9 but can also be collected from CB23.

It'll likely be a blocked pilot jet if it runs ok on throttle but not at idle. It's happened to mine twice now. Of cause you'll want to go through and clean all four once you have them out but you can find the culprit by starting it from cold and, running at idle, feel each exhaust down-tube. You'll find three heating up and one much colder. Obviously after a minute of running they'll be too hot to touch so you have to do it strait away.

You can reuse the carb seals if the look fine and you're careful removing them.

Yours are Yamaha OEM caps. NGK replacements are less than a fiver each.

Another update - Dead happy. Went for a longer run last night and the problem has well and truly gone. It pulls well from low down in the rev range without hesitation and feels like a 600 again rather than a badly set up 350. Looks like I'll be keeping her for a little while longer then, my eyes always start to wander to newer bikes when this kind of thing happens. The MT09 still looks sweet.

They're tricky to remove, although it does get easier every time you do it. Once you have them on your bench it pretty strait forward: Keep your work area super clean, and take your time. Don't split the four unless you have to, which is unlikely. Do them one carb at a time so every part goes back in the same place. You're supposed to replace all o-rings when you do this job but that's your call.

Update - Carbs stripped down and cleaned last week, all passages blown through, diagrams are all intact and jets clear. The sun had gone down when I'd finished so I took it up the road and back to see if it had made any difference. At low revs it was only running on three cylinders and almost stalled pulling away. Disheartened, it when back in the garage and I headed inside. The next night after work I started it and felt the temperature of each header, all were getting hot and this time sounded just fine. Took it out for a longer run to the petrol station to fill up and it ran smoothly. I can't say if the problem is gone or not as it used to come and go, some days worse than others. Time will tell I guess.

Good to see you’re still on here Gnasher.
My new headers do not have the link pipes.
The carbs were balanced after the exhaust was replaced. I balance the carbs once a year anyway.
It does get used, normally once a week, but it can sit for long periods from time to time. I’m leaning towards jets at the moment. We have a sonicator here at work which cleaned a completely blocked pilot jet last time around. I might just take them all out this time and run them through the machine.

FZS600 Fazer / Misfire when rolling on the throttle.
« on: 01 April 2015, 04:43:38 pm »
Hi all, I’ve been a long time member, since 2003 when I bought the Fazer, but just haven’t kept up to date with the forum. The old bike is getting long in the tooth although I do pamper it. It see’s little use now I've stopped commuting out of London, maybe 500-1000 miles a year. Anyway, it seems to have developed a misfire. At certain throttle positions the engine hesitates and loses power. The best way to describe it, or bring it on, is to be in top gear part throttle holding a constant speed (the bike is running fine at this point) then slowly open the throttle. The engine bogs down and doesn't pick up speed. Things to point out:
-          The plugs are a few years old but haven’t seen many miles, maybe a thousand or so.
-          Plug caps replaced not so long ago.
-          The TPS failed last year and was replaced with a used part. Tests ok though.
-          Fuel filter changed (problem was there before also)
-          K&N fitted many years ago. Looks clean and not due to be cleaned.
-          Full stainless exhaust system fitted recently (can’t remember the problem being there before this)
-          Checked carb heater pipes for blockages. Seem clear.
It’s making the bike unenjoyable to ride. I did have a similar problem back in 2010 although that was only at idle/low throttle. It turned out to be a single blocked pilot jet and is not the same as what I’m seeing now. Other than stripping the carbs (which I plan on doing this weekend), has anyone come across a similar problem?

I've got delkevic headers (mine are the one piece design) and tri-oval 320mm end can and found the quality and fitting were just fine. Personally I find mine too loud, even with the baffle in so wish I'd gone with the 420mm model.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Ordered a rear caliper fzs 1000
« on: 09 January 2014, 09:19:25 am »
Hadyoursister, If I've read this right, you're going to swap your oem rear caliper for the blue-spot one from the early Fazer 1000. If that's the case your old pads will not fit in the blue-spot. You'll need to buy Fazer 1000 pads, the brand is up to you.

« on: 27 August 2013, 05:07:46 pm »
I've been running with a bluespot from the 1000 for around five years. It offers no noticeable breaking power over a well maintained std one but is much better made and easier to maintain. I've only needed to service it a couple of times since fitted, normally during a pad change whereas with the standard it was a yearly job.

Yamaha didn't change any of the frame or engine bits so they should fit. The Delkevic's are for 98 to 03.

« on: 27 August 2012, 01:59:51 pm »
They do cease if neglected. From experience, the 1st gen 1000cc blue-dot rear is a worthy upgrade if you can find one (note: the R1 and R6 units look the same but will not fit). No better braking but are less susceptible to ceasing.

I replaced my 03 rad with one from an earlier bike and found the fixing for the OEM mesh grill were missing. Looks like it was a late addition to the FZS's.

Colour is spot on and the contrast with with gloss black on the tank and rear really stands out. Personally I'm not keen on any aftermarket fairings, I've never seen one that blends in with the rest of the plastic that well. Would much rather see the engine with a few polished bits thrown in there and stainless bolts etc. But that's just personal preference. The attention you've lavished on this puts most of our (now) tired FZS's to shame :)

I was thinking of saying "Installation the reverse of the removal" but that would be cruel. It does look like you're missing something there. Just googled it and it should look like this: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/4/5/4/6/0/8/webimg/542202633_o.jpg

FZS600 Fazer / Re: What the foc???blocked jet???
« on: 23 August 2012, 09:18:26 am »
Thanks a lot for your time and help peteski! :thumbup
All of my pilot jets are absolutely fine....i am allmost sure that its not a carb problem anymore...
I follow your instructions today, about the spark plugs etc...
I swap the cyl1 spark plug to cyl2,now i think that the downpipes get hot all together, still no so sure though.
But the problem its still there. :'(
I also check the coils resistance, first and secondary, tps and all are in specs.
I have allready change the spark plug caps to ngk sd05f(no diffrence),but as i saw today they are 5k resistance, and yams are 10k.
I dont know if this cause any further problem, but nothing have change after all these changes and checks...
I am starting to think valve clearence... :eek :'(

It sounds like you're checking all the right things. I've been in your shoes so know what it feels like chasing a problem such as this. I wouldn't rule out carbs just yet. One tiny flake of crud stuck in a passage will stop the whole thing working. It needs to be scrupulously clean inside there. And if you've got a spark on all four plugs then it's unlikely to be electrical.

I'm not saying it isn't but the valves on the FZS/Thundercat tend to be pretty bulletproof. The bucket and shim design means the wear on the valve seat is compensated by the wear on the bucket. You'd have to be unlucky.

It won't be engine management, the fzs isn't that advanced :) It just a simple sender and warning bulb. Have you checked for a faulty sender unit.

I can confirm the screw indicated by your yellow arrow does not have any hole in it.

This one is the pilot jet. take it out and hold it up to the sky. There should be a clean hole running through the middle.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: What the foc???blocked jet???

Petski,i have exactly what you said. When i start the engine, the downpipe of cyl 1,run colder than the others.... The jet i'm talking about,is where is the yellow arrow i draw...(see pic pls).At my carbs these  jets are completly blind..and i dont know if it sould be this way or not...i cant even find it at the Yam manual.

You now know where to be looking then, cyl 1. Please note that the photo shows the jets removed. I'm not 100 percent sure but I think the yellow arrow points to a plug which does not have any hole. It was two years ago since I did it so memory is not that fresh. I have a fully working set of carbs in the garage at home. I'll take the bowl off one tonight.

A blocked airfilter won't cause problems as described here, no harm fitting a K&N though!! A faulty HT lead, spark cap or plug can. The way you can rule this out is to move the sparkplugs (put 1 in 2, 2 in 3 etc) and see if the problem moves (feel the downpipes again). You can also swap the wiring on the coils. One coil fires cyl 1 and 4 and the other 2 and 3. Eg: There's no harm putting lead 2 on plug three and vise-versa. Just swap them over and again, see if the problem moves.
