Yes but a blob of red rubber grease under the dust cover combats this nicely and there's no stiction evident on mine  ;)

Silkolene RSF for me too when I gave my front forks a recent overhaul and new seals. Actually that's a lie. I stood and watched whilst a mate did all the messy bits which was basically the whole job  :\

For Sale & Wanted / FOR SALE: Yamaha FZS600 1998
« on: 23 September 2014, 03:16:21 am »
I am reluctantly having to sell my lovely Yamaha Fazer 600.

Its a 1998 R registered bike with 17,000 on the clock. It has just had a fresh MOT and is ready to go.

I have owned it for 2 years and it has given me great pleasure. Since I have owned it I have given it a top to bottom freshen up with 2 x oil and filter changes, a new fuel filter a new air filter (all parts genuine Yamaha), a new clutch cable, new chainguard, a new set of Conti RA2 tyres, Venhill brakelines front and rear (not pictured), an SP Racing exhaust (original included), flushed and replenished coolant, fitted a stainless rad guard,  stripped front and rear brake calipers and replaced the pads and replaced various tarnished fastners (all original Yamaha).I also removed the engine casings and had them powdercoated which I then refitted with new gaskets and I replaced the chain with a Gold DID uprated chain. I am positive there are other things I have also done but my mind escapes me. I have a new upgraded front sprocket nut and 'tab washer' set that will also be included.

She is in excellent cosmetic condition for a 16 year old bike and rides as she should. Being totally honest she has a couple of scuffs on the wingmirrors and there is a bit of engine paint flake in the area of the header pipes so it can't really be seen unless you are on your hands and knees. Oh yes, I also removed the header pipes and had them blasted and painted with HT paint. They were in excellent, solid condition and have never been welded or bodged so it would have been rude not to re use them. They were refitted with a new gasket set.

She comes fitted with a Spyball alarm with 2 x keys and keyfobs and is registered to me. I therefore have the V5 and all the old MOT's and service pack inclusive of the service history.

I will also include a 25mm 'jack up' kit which I did have fitted but reverted back to the original dogbones a few months ago.

The bike is located in Coalville in Leicestershire and I am looking for £1350 due to the mileage and condition. I will not be giving her away and have enjoyed every minute of owning her. This is a very reluctant sale but I think you will be hard pushed to find a nicer, cleaner example. I always clean her after every ride and use top quality cleaning products and ACF50 to keep her looking her best.

If you have any questions just send me a PM and I will respond as soon as I can.

Pictures to follow.

Regards, Lez

I too am running Conti RA2's on my boxeye. The rear is less than 2000 miles old and has already developed a slight flat spot down the centre. Its not at the stage where you can feel it affecting the handling but its definitely there. I would estimate that out of the last 2000 miles there has only been about 100 miles of dual carriageways and motorways where the bike would have been sat on the centre tread for long periods.

I have heard that it can largely depend on what tyre pressures you are running as to how fast a flat spot develops in the centre of a tyre  :rolleyes

Me and a mate stripped the front forks on the Gen 1, cleaned and flushed everything through and replaced the oil seals and oil. Sweet  8)

Hi Kebab.

1) Is this a direct replacement or do you need to make the modification around the area of the coolant reservoir ?

2) Are there any left ?

Making a bracket weaker is not a route I would take with brakes :rolleyes , but that is your choice.

Try searching on the 'Oberon' website. I think they do them.

Having some proof of a decent service history and just gauging things from the general condition of the bike should be more important than the mileage really. As others have said above, things can be scrap after 20,000 miles if not looked after properly.

Having said that, I tend to walk away from anything with over 20,000 on it. Its a psychological barrier. I know 20,000 would be nothing on a car so why does that seem high for a bike ?

For Sale & Wanted / Re: 2008 FZ1S for sale.£3k.

Just my tuppence worth but if you're not happy with it Noggy, continue with the sale. If you regret it later there are plenty around at reasonable money so you could always buy another. Not that I think you would as I reckon the one you have has put you off them. For some reason it seems like you are having a hell of a job setting it up which is strange as it really shouldn't be that difficult. By that, I mean that maybe you have a 'Friday afternoon' bike. On the other hand maybe the bike is fine but it's just not for you.

If you decide to buy another boxeye (if you continue to strip and sell yours) you will potentially have around 4k to play with. You might even decide to get another boxeye as they seem well suited to you and vice versa. That will leave you with a massive wad in your pocket and a bike that you know you like. Lets face it, you can get a corking boxeye for £1500 and a nice foxeye for a little bit more.

I also wouldn't bother with an MT07. An MT09 is another story though  :evil

I think they look good. Might be worth having the rear footpeg hangers done in the same colour to blend it all in ???

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Weird Noises / Front Sprocket Troubles
« on: 12 May 2014, 04:13:35 pm »
Like Dazza says, the front sprocket tab washer is meant to be bent like that so that's not an issue. I have never seen a front sprocket with the holes in like yours and its definitely not a Yamaha part.

In order to try and solve the problem, the first thing I would do is totally degrease and clean inside the sprocket cover and around the front sprocket area so you have a bit better chance of seeing if anything has been rubbing or has sheared. If everything looks ok I would then order the upgraded front sprocket nut kit and a new front sprocket from Yamaha. You will then need to remove your front sprocket by bending the tab washer flat so that you can remove the nut holding the sprocket in place. Show them the nearest bin and fit the new parts which will be a reversal of the removal process. Ideally you should fit a complete chain and sprocket kit as it can generally be false economy to do it any other way. The only reason I say this is your front sprocket looks pretty worn and I'm guessing the chain may have a few tight spots.

If the noises your bike is making are being caused by a worn chain and sprocket set (which sounds likely) you will be surprised how smooth it is if new parts are fitted and adjusted correctly.

This guys a genius. I hope the builders who have threads running on this forum at the minute are taking notes. I didn't realise you could do so much with an adjustable spanner and a hacksaw. I'll never get over the amount of money I have wasted on good quality tools.
