General / Tyre pressure monitors......How safe are they ?
« on: 10 June 2012, 04:12:15 am »
My rear tyre was coming to the end of its life and kept going down. Whilst waiting for a flush week and the delivery of some angled valves I thought it would be a good idea to fit a couple of tyre pressure monitors. I did wonder if they would be ok because they were steel and alot heavier than plastic caps. Anyway went out for a blast and this was the result :eek

OK people, in my quest to see how far I can go on one tank of fuel I think I may have stumbled on either a discrepency on what actual capacity the tank is or what I suspect is us being ripped off at the pumps. When I had reached 230 miles I stopped and checked my tank. There still looked a fair bit of fuel in the bottom so I carried on. I stopped and checked again at 250 and although not dry things looked a little bleak. I made my way to the nearest and cheapest petrol station when with in 100 yards of the forecourt the engine cut out showing 253.3 miles. As my intention was to see how far it would go I came prepared with some spare fuel. At a guess I must have put about  1 litre of fuel in before topping the tank with 21.49 l  of fuel. So either our tanks are bigger than we think or fuel pumps are callibrated wrong in order to rip us off.  I know I must take in to consideration fuel pipes and carbs but can not see this being as much as 1 and a half litres. Would be interested to hear your views maybe someone can enlighten me.

General / Now look what you've made me do!
« on: 12 May 2012, 06:02:20 pm »
:eek OK, picture this..... I pull into a petrol station, put my card in the pump, enter my pin and pull my card out when this attractive woman in an extremely short skirt leans right into her car trying to retrieve something in the passenger footwell. Needless to say she had me totally transfixed on the  sight of her pert little arse and thong showing every little contour of her pussy. In the meantime I've inadvertently reached for the diesel nozzle.     She exits the car (show over) Still in a daze I put the nozzle in the tank and squirt (prematurely) I come to my senses and whip it out having put 0.28 of a litre or 39 pence worth in. YES, I KNOW I'M A DUMBASSbut my question is..... after topping my tank with the proper stuff and riding the 3 miles or so home, have i got change my fuel as well as my pants. :lol

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Front sprocket change
« on: 11 May 2012, 05:55:41 am »
The time has come for me to change my front sprocket, has anyone gone one tooth up or down and if so what were the benefits/drawbacks. I understand it may affect the accuracy of the speedo but not sure which way. I have this little niggling voice in my head that says just leave it standard so any input would be welcome. Cheers. :)

General / Feeling guilty-not stopping for biker down.
« on: 09 May 2012, 03:08:49 pm »
:( On my way to the Mayday Hastings bike run I approached a roundabout near orpington, there I saw a bike on its side and a biker sitting on the verge. I stopped to assess the situation and could see he was on the phone. Mindful of my 8 year old daughter on the back of me and lack of safe places for her to stand not to mention the crowds of people standing behind the armco barrier who appeared to be doing nothing. I assumed he was not badly injured and carried on. Being a trained 1st aider I could not help feeling a tad guilty as I rode away which wasn't helped by the sight of an ambulance tearing round the M25 in his direction.  Didn't like that feeling but knew I would have been more concerned about putting my daughter in danger by stopping. Your thoughts please.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Tank range
« on: 28 March 2012, 06:54:53 pm »
Hi all, been making the most of the sunshine and nightwork by having some gentle cruises to the south east coast over the last few days.  When i had reached 200 miles on a single tank i started to get a bit concerned and started looking for a garage. Found one after another 9 miles and brimmed the tank. I was amazed  i could only get 17 litres in meaning i have averaged 55 mpg giving my bike a theoretical range of 256 miles. Just out of interest, would love to know what the furthest anyone has got on one tank of fuel. Don't want to turn this into a competition, just think of it as a safe alternative to Russian roulette.  ;)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / pannier racks
« on: 24 March 2012, 12:23:09 am »
Can anyone tell me if this is possible, want to fit some pannier racks but my bike does not have the standard undertray mudguard fitted. It has been fitted with a carbon fibre upgrade and from what i can tell the givi rack i want has bars that go through the mudguard where the indicators are. Do both sides connect together through the mudguard or are they connected to the mudguard. If i knew how i would post some pictures to make it clearer but am sure anyone who has fitted a rack will know. Thanks in advance people.  Looks like i managed to put a photo up and before anyone points out i have got a givi top box rack for the side rails.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / The computer say's NO...!
« on: 20 March 2012, 05:05:07 pm »
Hello all, I want to fit some side panniers to my gen 1. Don't like the look of givi's e21's but do like the v35's. Two dealers have both said they don't list anything other than the e21 side rack. I know there is a weight issue but am sure I've seen gen 1's with other panniers. Has anyone fitted other panniers, if so what rack did they use ? and have you had any issues with them. If only givi did a v21 styled like the v 35's I'd go for them as I can see the width of the 35's could cause problems filtering. So come on let me tap in to this font of experience... :D

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / European restriction
« on: 02 March 2012, 05:30:58 pm »
Need to pick some brains, took my fazer 1000 gen 1 to be dyno tested today as i had a gut feeling it was holding back. Turns out to have the european restriction  producing 98.8 bhp @tbw. Does anybody know exactly how it is restricted either carbs, cam, ecu or a combination of them all ? Fair play to my local bike shop where i bought it  who said they would remedy it for me foc which i didn't expect tbh. Only i want to get it ivanised soon but to my mind, depending on the way it is restricted need to sort this first. Any feedback or advice will be welcome.

« on: 02 March 2012, 11:47:04 am »
Thought it only polite to introduce myself. Hello people, my name is Darren, I live in kent and have recently been bitten again with the bike bug after over 20 years away after a friend lent me his hornet  for a week. Have had many bikes in the past from motocross to 350 & 500 powervalves  & a gpz 1000 rx. I work on the London underground as a protection master/site person in charge and am an ex-bootneck. Came across this site only last month and think i'll stick around for a bit. Ride Safely  :)

General / fazer 1000 top speed
« on: 22 February 2012, 05:03:14 pm »

Hi everyone, would appreciate any feedback on what sort of top speed you are getting from a stock 03 model. Mine seems to be struggling over 140, have crept it up to 150 indicated, don't know if i'm expecting too much or it is holding back. Have checked air filter which was quite dirty have blown it out and ordered a new one which i intend to fit before taking it out again. I will see if this makes a difference but in the meantime would appreciate any input...safe riding.
