Personally I blame YouTube!! Watch some "biker channels" and these guys with cameras are out looking for footage. They are engineering situations for footage. They will put themselves in situations where any normal rider would just assess the situation and back off. I think he got distracted by the red car pulling out and saw an opportunity to add another clip to his collection. He was probably thinking "I'll get along side this guy (in the red car) and rev my engine / slap his wing mirror / stair him out and shout abuse " Got distracted and missed the black car changing lanes until it was too late.

I do think both the red car and black car were both at fault but equally with the rider.

:eek  Why would you ?

Think its about advertising his shop. If you read the description "We have many other parts available check out Mikes Motorcycle parts for more parts." Mikes Motorcycle parts has a hyperlink to other parts.

You sometimes see a nut or bolt advertised but in reality its a link to something else.

« on: 02 September 2016, 11:58:26 pm »
Get an XJR. You wont regret it. Amazing bike. Always puts a smile on my face. The torque is great. You don't need a 6th gear it pulls from less than 2000rpm. Its a real mans bike though that needs a bit of muscling about to get the best out of it. The twin shocks are great fun once you get used to it moving about. Like has been said its easy to embarrass sports bikes. Add a second pressure plate for the clutch issue. £10 and about 15 mins work. They are still making XJRs but not GSX1400s. Need I say more!!! Only thing that will defeat it is emission controls. I have been looking for an alternative for a couple of years but have held onto my 62k T reg XJR1300 as its so much fun.

If your a big girls blouse buy something else or a FJR but remember fairings are for fairies!!

« on: 21 July 2016, 11:08:40 pm »
Cant see from photos properly but it looks like there is a dual oiler fitted at the sprocket. The ends of the oiler should be just gently touching on each side of the rear sprocket so that the centrifugal force drives it onto the chain.

The reservoir unit should also be positioned so that the top (the end from the vacuum pipe) is above the other end. The pipe that looks like it goes no where is the breather and also used for refilling.

The black pipe as has been said goes to the spigot on the carb rubbers to provide a vacuum to make the oiler work.

The timing of the drips also need to be set and can be adjusted with the knurled adjusted on the unit.

You have to remember that waterproof kit is all waterproof in rain, but what we do is ride in the rain to that means the rain is travelling at speed 30,40,50,60 etc so that rain drop explodes on impact which makes it smaller and that is why stuff leaks.

.........and the manufacturers when they are making "motorcycle" gear know that. Poor excuse for me TBH. Cheap gear may well leak but it a bit annoying when they claim it is waterproof. Got to also watch as they often say that it has a waterproof liner.

Id go with ACF50 over WD40 but longer term get the caps replaced.

Aftermarket levers might be causing a problem with the clutch and microswitch at the hnadlebars.

I managed to pick up a Givi Wingrack on ebay recently for £70 (if I remember correctly) It was missing some spacers but that was not really an issue. Look at full bikes that are for sale with racks and PM the owner and see if they will sell separately.

Blue spot from the 1000 fits. Slight filing a bit of the standard bracket but that's it. I'm sure there is a sticky on here about it. Only thing is the brake line is probably best changed. It fits but sits at a bad angle. I have not changed mine yet but will do shortly.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Stuck chain links advice?
« on: 20 February 2016, 07:05:59 pm »
I have noticed a number of stiff/seized links in my chain, I have taken the rear wheel off and done my best to free them up some were easier than others....

I'm sorry to say the chain has had it.

I'm surprised this has happened as the chain and sprockets looked like they were quite new when I brought the bike and it gets regular (daily) use and I regularly oil the chain (holts lube).

It's very possible it was fitted badly/adjusted incorrectly/cheap chain.  The amount of chains I've had to replace with a few 1000's miles on after they've been fitted badly is scandalous, many just have little or no idea how to fit them.

Perhaps the previous owner neglected the chain abit or its a cheap chain, not sure.
More than likely.

Is they anything product or process anyone is aware of which might help revive the chain abit, it would be nice to try and get a few more miles out of it as its otherwise quite unworn.
If it's an O/X ring chain there's little that can be done as by definition the O/X rings that stop the grease getting out stop lub getting in. You will be able to nurse it for a while but there is no way of reversing the damage and it will only get steadily worse.  If it's not O/X ring lubing will help but only to a point.

Also I just purchased two new tyres and a carb rebuild kit so rather not spend another £100 on it at the moment...

Why do you need to rebuild the carbs?

What he said. Its goosed. Don't waste your time. Get a new chain before you need a new engine.

Banjo bolt with bleed nipple. I did this on a Z650 I had once. Had to unbolt the caliper to bleed it but other than that it worked well. Might save a bit of hassle in the short term?

« on: 05 January 2016, 11:00:28 pm »
I'm fairly new here also but is it not tight because the bike has had a blue spot caliper fitted at some time which has the bango bolt in a different position and needs a longer pipe?

Just make sure the gauges are from a right hand drive vehicle  :D

Does take a bit of getting used to having the throttle on the left hand side. ;-)

PS how do you post a smiley on this site. I am using MS Edge, that might be the problem?

Just use : + )
But without plus sign and space you get this :)

Sinto, I think I have replied to your PM?

if that clock set has not got a speedo healer on it, and only a sticker on it that could be removed I may be interested in them.
I'm emigrating next November to Australia and they use kph rather than mph and I'm taking my bike.
what year is the bike too as mines a 2002 model with the late clocks.  ta.

Haven't started looking for a UK set yet but I think there are plenty on ebay. My set have the gold surround around the rev counter bit. I think they have a different look after 2000 but you will probably know more than me. Not long had the Fazer. You can have first dibs if you are interested.

The other thing about imports is the headlights WILL be pointing in the wrong direction, so you'll probably need a new (UK) set  to cure this.

Yes, done that bit. Anyone want to buy a European set?

I have a FZS600 which is an import with KPH clocks. It currently has a sticker over the speedo for MPH. If I swap the KPH clocks for a MPH clocks do I need to do anything else??
