Bingo. Just swapped new control box in. Half hour job, dead easy. Ordered it from Abacus Alarms linked above. By gum, new alarm is loud, far more than old one was (before it died). Top stuff chaps!

Dunno really. Kids, jealous wife etc. Jealous because she got her bike license about 16 years before me and currently has no bike, whilst I do have a bike... and she's too short arse to ride the Fazer. Hmmm, sore point!

Anyone else up for this? http://www.jacklilley.com/comms/july-2013/I know it's a bit Triumph centric, but should be a laugh, free goodies and mate is serving top notch proper coffee. Planning on doing the Romford to Ashford ride out on Sunday 14th.

Yay! MOT passed yesterday, no problems. They sorted the service out too, ended up doing everything bar valve clearances. I had a load of Castral Power1 oil handy, so they used that to save a few quid. Paid cash, so came to £200 for everything (mot, labour, filters, plugs etc) . I know you chaps could have saved me a packet, next time OK! MOT was due and was handy dumping bike off round corner from work on commute in, then picking on way home.
Did say, rear brake pads have about 2k miles left on them. Easy job?

Speaking with other Londoners, I'm not aware of any CCTV currently setup to catch anyone doing this. However coppers and PCSO's have been handing out leaflets to offenders as a pre-warning/awareness type thing. I suspect it will be enforced by the like too.
Enforcing this via CCTV would be a logistical nightmare. The CCTV would have to synchronised with the traffic lights, to ensure they only snap vehicle crossing the ASL after the lights after turned red. To get a decent view of the ASL/bicycle box would need to be forward facing. Which of course isn't going to catch any motorcyclists. A rear facing camera would be crap as it would be too difficult to ascertain if the front of a vehicle is encroaching the ASL, especially taller cars, and lorries. And again, a motorcycle sat in front of a lorry would be invisible to a rear camera. Which just leaves side on camera, which ain't going to see any number plates. Maybe a multi-camera setup could work, but this would require good manual inspection to match the same bikers in each camera angle.

i like the way you think DEADEYE ...we could bring EXUPNUT round to sweet talk your wife while us sensible ones give you bike a damn good service
Just make sure you get that the right way round, don't want EXUPNET to give the bike a sweet talking to and you sensible lot to give my wife a damn good service! Anyways, bike is booked in at garage anyway for Tuesday, running short on time for MOT. Doh! Currently thinking, skip valves and carb balancing.

Hmmm, interesting. So am I right in saying I just yank the loom out of the old alarm, shove it in that new one and then just cable tie the thing safe and sound? Then just swap key fobs. Is that it?
Seems to be even cheaper ones on ebay...

It was fitted from new, so around 10 years! Spoke to Bazil, reckons it just needs the main unit replacing. Gonna cost me £200 as rest of wiring and installation is in place and should be good. Will be an expensive month. Puncture in back tyre earlier this week, MOT and major service due next week and now £200 for alarm. And I'm still waiting for insurance claim due to knob taking me out and causing me to drop the bike, may well cat-d the bike. In which case, I'm beginning to think stuff getting the alarm replaced, bin it and do without. It only saves me £25 a year on on insurance.

Keep meaning to sign up for one of the basic bike maintenance courses at OMC. Just not go round to it. I'm not totally clueless, did fit the Givi rack myself no problems and I've done stuff on the car like fitting parking sensors, stereo, leather seats, spoiler etc. The bigger issue is more time.
Yes, must get on some ride outs. Weekends are often tricky for me, due to family etc. My wife also takes disdain to me fecking off at the weekend, leaving her with kids, especially as she passed her bike test about 15 years before me and doesn't currently have her own bike... Bit of a sore point.

So, I've had my 2003 FZS600 for almost a year now and it's due it's annual service. It's currently on 19k. Last service was 1 year ago at 13k. Not being the most mechanically minded chap, not having a garage, tools or time, I'm planning to take it to local garage who seem pretty reasonable.
They've informed me it's due for major service, filters, oil, plugs, balance carbs etc (£230) and maybe do valve clearances (£50).
Last owner had it left standing for some time, so had given it a pretty big service last year. Can't find record or exactly what, but I'm sure he said carbs were balanced and a new battery definitely went on. The manual reckons valves don't need checking until ~30k (40000 km).
Bike does seem to be running fine. Sometimes spot slow starting from cold, needs turning over for few seconds whilst revs build up.
So, does it require a major service or will a minor service suffice? Am I right to skip valves clearances? Price for service sound about right?

Eeek, dunna sound good. Yeah Meta have put me in touch with a chap called Bazil. Will see what he reckons.
That said, I did manage to trigger the alarm today, albeit lights only, no sound. Was through activating ignition. Not been able to trigger it via movement.

Similar to others, I upgraded my bank account (Smile, Co-Op) to get RAC cover and phone/gadget cover etc. Works well for us, as it's a joint account (me and wife) so covers us both in car and bike, unlike the cheap cover I had thrown in with insurance. Phone cover was good too, smashed screen on HTC One X, got new phone for £25 excess!
Had to use the RAC this week, nasty puncture, big chunk of glass, big hole. Too big for my rubber repair strands. Took them 1:15 to turn up, but did a temp fix with big rubber bung and rubber goo. Tyre was due for replacement anyway, probably why the glass killed it. Either way, it got me to local garage. Chap turned out to be a biker himself and chatted for a while about previous punctures he had repaired.
Yes, do check clauses relating to accident recover, many don't include this and will charge.

The alarm on my bike has started playing up. It no longer sounds. No beeping when armed or disarmed. And I can't get it to trigger when rocking the bike once armed (and after the initial 10 secs). However the indicator lights still flash as before when arming/disarming and the immobiliser still works.
Any ideas? Have I enabled one of it's obscure modes of operation or is there a genuine fault?

Done same to mine, after a drop pushed indicator stalk in, cracking the fairing from indicator hold down to bottom edge. Yours must be worse, as the crack on mine is hardly noticeable.
Either way, I was told a spot of glue and bit of plastic welding on the inside would sort it out. Just a case of finding someone local with these skills.

Have you confirmed which Sunday yet? Wouldn't mind heading over for this one, pretty local for me too.

Have you considered a cut down seat? Picked one up for mine, as an easy swap for when my wife wants to borrow the bike. Mines obviously a custom job, leather unpicked, pulled back, foam cut down, then leather re-stapled back. Knocks about 2-3cm off seat height and doesn't change handling of bike. Bet you could pick a spare seat for not much and have a play cutting it down.

Looks good. My Fazer is pretty much identical, although I have a blue tinted double bubble screen.

That's the very same kit I was looking at. Also got a blue/black Fazer and was thinking likewise, the clear lights would suit it a lot better. Right then, decided it is, I'll treat myself and pop my order in come pay day.

Spotted another fazer the other day with clear indicator lenses, rather than the usual orange ones. Seen a couple of conversion kits on ebay (lenses + orange bulbs). Anyone had any experience with these? Any good? Any issues/mot problems etc?

Certainly looks decent enough to help settle an awkward insurance dispute...

Correlation does not imply causation.
"...these tend to be male riders on powerful bikes, during the drier months of the year." - because there are loads of female motorcyclists in Wales on tiny bikes in the middle of the winter who never crash - duh!

Got the same as the top pic on my Fazer. Yep, previous owner said it was an official one. Agreed, it is the best looking pan on the market. However, I've managed to trash mine. Dropped bike a couple of times, the crash bobbins bend easily, which then flexes and cracks the pan...

Having a bit of a declutter: This can came with my FZS600, but I never used it. It's a Micron can, for the FZS600, but don't have a much more details on it. Only marking on it I can see is 'Micron Magnex 53.98' on one clamp, near springs. There's nowt at the end, as it seems to have been Hammerited in black. It's in pretty good nick, needs a good polish, but there is a scuff on one side nearest bike, shouldn't be noticeable once fitted though. Includes clamps and bolts for fitting. How does £60 sound? Pick up from East London, or I don't mind posting, let me get a quote.
