Got hit in the face by a pheasant while on the motorway once. It jumped out of the way of a lorry in the slow lane and into me....that hurt.
Bumble bee hitting my chest then going up inside my visor while banked over at 90mph was a buttock clencher, especially as I had one of those Roof helmets where the visor never opened. I screamed the whole time it took to stop, park the bike, remove my helmet and chuck it into a field....took me ages to climb that fence to get my lid back.  :rolleyes
I have had a few near misses with scaffolding poles, bricks and planks of wood aswell.

While filtering through traffic someone threw their McD's bag (which included their drink) out of their window which I promptly caught and with a single arm motion chucked it back through their window.......unfortunately I never hung around long enough to see the reaction.

Customer retention and rewarding customer loyalty no longer exists with most companies.
NEW BUSINESS is the way forward for most companies as this is where they make their money and this is where they have the most resource (staff).

Most people renew without looking around so this makes these companies money with their inflated premiums.

Every year with car, bike, home and AA cover I go through the same routine:
1. Review a ridiculous renewal quote
2. Go to Go Compare/Money Supermarket etc and get quotes
3. Phone my current Insurer to see if they will match a particular deal
4. Move somewhere else if the answer to 4 is No

The AA is my best annual example where every year they quote me £250+ to renew for another year. I go online as a New Customer and get quoted £125.
Every year AA match this price after I have done a bit of haggling.

All of the above requires a bit of effort and you would be surprised how many people can't be bothered

I have had 3 Gen2's, covered 50k miles and never come across either of these issues.
As for the fuelling there is a general "snatchiness" on "most" fuel injected bikes and the pre-'07 FZ1's tended to suffer more (in some peoples opinions).

In general you can ride around any throttle response issues or fit an Ivan's/Power Commander etc

I have made a complaint to the AA about a repair to my vehicle by Halfords Autocentre......... they took it there.
Just had the reply which says they arewashing there hands of it even going to the extent of blaming my wife and saying she choose to take it there.

Whether your wife "chose" to have the car taken to Halfords or not does not matter. If you have any work done by a garage it must be of a certain standard or you have the right to complain and the garage is legally bound to investigate. If they do not or refuse you would have to take legal proceedings, usually via small claims.
Most major garage chains will settle out of court as their legal excess is often more than the claim would be. Appreciate your issue here is with The AA but they did not do the actual work.
You should have some paperwork from the AA detailing what the fault was and what was done to rectify it. If the work is substandard then it would think be down to Halfords to rectify rather than the AA....this will however depend on who the "contract" is with which will be in your AA T&C's/small print.

I would go with OEM although they are not cheap.
I put some EBC on last time around and the feel is just not the same.

I had the Wolf Titanium Jacket and Trousers and lasted 3 weeks with them. Leaked something rotten...took them back and got a refund.

I am looking around myself, want Goretex but can't afford Rukka. I have decided on the REV-IT Neptune range which get decent reviews.

Saltire in Edinburgh stock them if you need to try them on

Had a pair on my previous XJR1300. Sound fantastic and not too loud at all with the baffles in.
Look great aswell.

I never had the bike out in the rain so can't contest to the build quality personally but the new owner of the bike has been everywhere with the thing and they still look great on the bike.

« on: 30 December 2015, 05:30:48 pm »
I had the same issue on my daughters phone where the bill went from £7.60 per month to £50 all down the these messages.
Vodafone advised that it was not their fault and blamed my daughter for signing up to or registered with something.
I pointed out that this was impossible as messaging was barred from her phone and full parental controls were on her account.
In additional there was calls registered as coming from her account in the middle of the night (when I had the phone in my possession.

I kicked up a stink as trawling the web I found out that Vodafone was "selling on" phone numbers to 3rd parties so they could contact their customers and charge them money.
the 3rd Party then text you and if you DO NOT reply STOP then they continue to text you charging up to £3.50 for you receiving the text. They can even send texts that you do not receive and charge you the money.
Vodafone refunded ALL of the money charged to me although they did advise to contact PhonePayPlus to "de-register" from their system.

I had the same thing a few years ago after a recognised storm.
I had a roofer round who quoted me £2500 for replacing and repointing the ridge tiles. Similar issue with my timbers aswell. They also said I needed the roof sarking replaced aswell.

Contacted the Insurance Company who sent an assessor who said whilst it was caused by a storm it was fair wear and tear and it was my responsibility to check that my ridge tiles were in good condition prior to the storm....how the f!*k can I do that......in other words pay for it yourself.
My premiums also went up the next year because I had "enquired" about a claim  >:

I then contacted a few other roofers who advised the first roofer was just milking it they all came in at between £800-£1200 to do the same job.
Worth getting a 2nd/3rd opinion if your insurance will not pay out.

dont see any goretex gear for sale on the site, £425 for a shelltex jacket! looks like they are loosing the quality they used to be good for.

I had a look through the site and I agree with the above that they seem to have moved away from Goretex (probably due to the cost). Having used their Sheltex over the years it is just not in the same league.
The site also seems to have limited choice, although if you use the search function it tends to take you to their European site.
Will I be using them.......think not....there is now better kit out their for an equivalent price

That looks better then the two that I linked. The Powerbronze one in particular looks a bit wanky from the LHS.

What brand is it?

Not sure on the colour match, so maybe I need to go black with white lettering.

That is a Yamaha OEM Bellypan with an aftermarket Yamaha sticker on it

Tried the Sargent seat and Yamaha Gel seat but thought both were mince.
Eventually bought a seat customised by Tony Archer and it is fantastic.

I have dealt with Tony personally a few years ago for a seat for another bike and he provides a quality product but it does take some time for him to provide the finished article.

Personally I never got on with the CBF. I looked for one for my all round bike after my 3rd FZS1000 and ended up buying a CB1300 instead. Did not like the handling of the CBF at all.
"Almost" bought a Deauville but the CB1300 had a bit more wow factor and ultimately I did not think there was much point in buying a bike I found uninspiring to ride. Ran the CB for 3 years including through the winters.
One thing I was not impressed with was the overall Honda build quality and whilst the ABS was pretty good I had to strip the brakes every month or they seized up. Ended up going back to the Fazers with a FZ6 for the winter and an FZ1 for the summer.

I'm sure if you have set your mind on the CBF then another will come up in the coming months  ;)

Ha....it will depend on how good you ;)
I'm a "decent" pool player and have played and beaten a number of Scottish and UK Champions in one-off games.
It is generally consistency that lets the normal pool player down so over the course of a number of games I have generally lost.

Best of luck......try and avoid the "granny" at least  :D

Think you may be struggling due to your location, unless you are willing to travel.
As you say the Euro vs £ is a bit mince at the moment but if you find one for the right price......

I tested both versions of the 800's last year and found them nice to ride. Superb around the twisties/b-roads but I did not find it altogether great on motorways. Thought they lacked a bit of ooommph.

Tested the Tracer a few weeks back and thought it was an excellent bike. Better engine, handling and wind protection than the Triumphs IMO  :rolleyes
Also thought the build quality on the Tracer was better.

Personal choice though and I would give both a try if I was buying

Many moons ago a not very bright friend of mine had a NSR125 and the exhaust came off following one of his many "off's".........he decided to that the best option was to cable-tie it back on.

Same friend decided to paint his brake calipers luminous yellow with heat resistant paint. He thought they looked so cool he painted the discs aswell  ;)

« on: 26 May 2015, 08:35:42 pm »
£4500-£5000 seems to be the going rate for most 07/08 FZ1's at the moment.
Personally I think the 5k is a bit steep for Glasgow though. The dealers up here tend to be a bit pricey tbh and I have often shopped further South for all my purchases over the last few years. I tend to extend my search up to 200 miles and usually find something.

I know that Dealers also struggle to shift FZ1's up here for some reason so there may be a deal to be had especially at that price.

I paid not far off that for a '10 plate 2 years ago and that was from a Glasgow Dealer (although there was a high degree of haggling involved  ;))

If I had to buy from there I would not be paying any more than £4400 and that would be top wack.

A member of my "immediate" family won £2.5m many moons ago..........unfortunately I saw none of it  :\

The money did not last long though and its all now long gone mainly spent on bad car choices, poor investments and money grabbers  :lol

+1 for Tony Archer but you are right its too far to visit.
I had the same issue looking around (Dunfermline) but did not find anything.

I have had 2 seats from Tony Archer for both my CB1300 and FZ1 and could not rate then highly enough.
You would have to send him your seat and he sends you something fantastic in return. He does however take as much time as he needs on the job so is often not quick.

What about looking at some custom bike makers like http://www.area51customcycles.co.uk/ who do seat remodelling and are "local".

I had a similar thing a few years ago where I was riding to work and I passed one of my colleagues in his car....so I gave a friendly wave at him.
Now he knows I have a bike, what colour it is and even the clothes I wear as I generally walk past in my gear in the office.

He obviously did not recognise me (as he pointed out later) so his response was to make hand gestures at me and have a swearing rant....then in a fit of road rage he deliberately and dangerously cut me up then brake tested me.

I pulled him (and his manager) aside in the office and I asked him to explain his actions towards a motorcycle that I had witnessed while driving to work. He explained the "kn*b biker" had cut him up previously and had made rude gestures. You can imagine his face as I then calmly advised him it was me and I was waving at him  :)

I got a written apology and ironically last year he came to me for advice as he was about to sit his bike test and buy his first bike.
Unfortunately he did not take my advice and buy a Fazer, instead opting for a Bandit...... :rolleyes

Did not connect as far as the lamp unit itself just cut the end connector off the wire from the new indicator and cut halfway down the old wire and joined to make a longer wire.
