Thanks TeeCee,
I did see some stuff on that, but currently best price I can find on the suzuki one is £120 so for that I might as well just get the yam one!
Celtic yeah I was surprised too, bikes only done ~20k!

Hi all,
Riding home the other day, noticed the tacho going to 3k. Nothing too dodgy on bike, felt a bit boggy at steady speed, like running out of petrol as I went to accelerate.
TPS.
Got Haynes out, Check the resistance accross the terminals - black/blue to blue = 5.5 (should be between 0 and 5 (+-1)) - blue to yellow = no resistance (should be 0-5 (+-1))
I've tried adjusting it, but just get the 3k error.
So broken!(?)

My questions are, do I need a new new one, can I get a second hand one? Are there any cheaper options?I saw a comment on a thread on here saying T-Max one fits but having had a look I can't see how - T-Max connects on the unit, FZS1000 one connects along the cable.

Where do people buy their Throttle position sensors? Can't find it on Wemoto, Ebay has one for £160...

Thank you!
Tom

« on: 03 October 2018, 02:50:51 pm »

Do you mean the poles that make a "fan" that go along the sides?

If you look at the video (mute the prat with the camera!) when they unbox it, it does show the poles attached to a base and you can see the lengths of them there.
They're the ones! It's quite hard to see from the video (on mute) the lengths, because the bracket is curved...
I have since learned they've done it wrong anyway, they put the bracing bar at the front of the cover, whereas the instructions shown quickly during that video show the bracing bar on the back poles...
Ah well, I smushed it together and it works well enough! Thanks for taking a look thoughTom

Hello chaps,
I was hoping for some help and/or advice. The girlfriend's grandad has given me an armadillo bike cover, one of those tent things.
He took it all apart without checking pole lengths (oo-er).There are several different lengths to the side poles, that have now been mixed up.
There are no instructions. The internet isn't too helpful, I found a video with some blokes from Fast Bikes magazine making man jokes and not showing me what I want to see (pole lengths).Has anyone got one (or similar) and can tell me the where the different poles may go?
If that makes sense.
I've sorted the front two poles on each side, but then I've got 4 long, 4 short and 2 medium poles (2 long, 2 short and 1 medium per side)...
Thank you to one and allTom

For Sale & Wanted / Oxford Heated Grips for sale SOLD
« on: 17 August 2017, 04:27:18 pm »
Hi,
Selling my heated grips, tested prior to removal and they work perfectly.
They've covered about 10,000 miles on the bike and I have had the control module replaced under warranty. They are about 5 years old.

I had them installed as per the guide written on this site, through the fuse box, so the kit doesn't have a ring connector for the positive wire - will have to be soldered in.

£20 including postage.

Now sold! Thanks all for the interest

Hi everyone,
as above really, I am running the Brighton Marathon in a few weeks time and am hoping to raise a bit of funds for the air ambulance!
Any spare quid do please donate it, all this running is cutting into my riding time, so I want to make it worth it!

General / Re: Advice needed regarding 16 year old's first bike.
« on: 24 July 2015, 04:25:56 pm »
I had a twist and go, my brother had a geared thing.
I prefered my way, it's not hard to move up from an auto to a gearbox and it made the first year easier not having to change gear every 2 seconds.

Also when it came time to learn gears, I knew that much more about the roadcraft etc that the gears were made easier, only the one new thing to deal with.

Might be good to ask her? if she's planning to start driving at 17, the idea of gears and clutch might be more useful to learn early on but for me in terms of learning, I don't see any difference between learning them at 16 or learning them at 17.
Let me know if you want any more info, it was 10 years ago now though :o

I should add, he had an fjr and the design of the cover meant the front wheel went over a metal plate welded to both sides - Nothing's going to blow away if it's got an fjr parked on it!

My dad used to have one, very good, his didn't ever suffer with condensation but was on an uneven drive so a few air gaps at the bottom helped I guess.
Only problem he had was the material fell apart after about 5 years.

Hi,
answer for anybody else with similar problem:

got the bike back from garage yesterday, they couldn't identify the exact fault, but took the alarm off and it works fine now no problem :)

They also mentioned it may have been the pick up coil and to keep an eye on it, apparently a problem for older yamahas?

Thanks

Tom

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / No Spark!
« on: 30 July 2014, 12:00:31 pm »
Hi,
So a bit of back story, I came home from Belgium about 2 weeks ago, in some god awful rain. Bike started and everything really well and was good.

I went to start it on Sunday and it wouldn't start, the fuel pump clicked away the engine turned over well, but it wouldn't catch. This was using my usual method of a bit of choke and no throttle.
I tried several different ways, part throttle no choke, full choke full throttle etc etc. It wasn't long before the battery started dying.

I got to work and text my brother at home who went out and it started on the choke straight away, reacted to the throttle revved etc then cut out when he took the choke off.

I went to start it yesterday and same thing happened, no starting, nothing. I put the battery on charge over night and that's all fine. There was a strong smell of petrol from the exhaust.

Today I took the plugs out, they were all really covered in petrol. After cleaning them off I connected different plugs to various caps and none of them would spark against the engine.

Ohm tests on all the caps and coils all come good.

I've got a datatool alarm which I've never had any problems with (professionally fitted before I got it, 4 years ago) and that still works in as far as the alarm, but I'm unsure what the immobiliser would do if it was broken, stop the engine turning over or stop it sparking?

So searching here suggests trimming the HT leads but would people be more expecting the alarm?

And would that be the problem when it all stopped working at once, worked after that and hasn't worked since?

thanks for looking!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: 03 fazer 1000 - new tyre bar wobble
« on: 30 June 2014, 12:14:05 pm »
Mine does it too, although I can't really feel it if I've got both hands on the bars.

An ex Ducati race mechanic told me it is because my stearing head beariings weren't done up tight enough, not something I was bothered with, but might be worth a look?
someone will probably be along with something more useful though :)

General / Re: New keys
« on: 31 March 2014, 11:42:27 am »
I snapped the key off in mine once  :rolleyes

If it's one of the old ones (I think E36 type) then you can just lever the catch off with a screwdriver. A triumph mechanic showed me that...
It doesn't damage the catch at all and you can then just unscrew the lock from the inside of the case.

Givi sell new locks/keys I think mine cost about £20 from local dealer.

I got rid of mine soon after though, they're stupidly easy to break in to...

As to the original question, take it to local givi dealer, they should hopefully know what to do :)

« on: 24 March 2014, 08:13:03 pm »
Due to change the spark plugs on my Gen 1 very soon, had a look at Pats motorcycle page forra few tips, cylinders 2 and 3 look to be a bit awkward to get at, any tips or advice off folks on here?, considering taking off radiator for easier access or is this not needed?, I'm not the most mechanically minded person in the world so any advice is appreciated.

If you've got the time I'd really recommend taking the AIS out, makes changing the plugs (or checking etc) much easier and it isn't much work at all.

I got a kit from a member here - Justy, not sure if he's still doing them though.
