Great idea this. No use to me as my fat ass likes the comfort of the couch that is a gen 1. But it’s a great idea none the less..

Yep. Owned a 600 for a year then changed to a 1000. Had my current one 7 years now and still enjoy it..

I actually manufacture gears for a current production electric vehicle. Sales are far less than forecast (if I had to guess, because of the price). They are blooming fast things though. In the case of the vehicle I’ve been involved with the drive units are sealed units, nothing easily serviceable on it.

As has been stated, zero emissions but far from carbon neutral. I would be interested to see how the emissions would compare between having a brand new EV made at a factory and continuing to run our old Fazers.. how many years would it take before the EV “cost” less emissions.

Librecad when at home (was using AutoCAD student when I was still at uni).

I have AutoCAD on my work laptop now so have been using that more but librecad is a good alternative :)

Either laser lite ear plugs (get them from work) or if I remember to lift them my cheapo custom jobs which work well:

Proguard MYO - Mould your own custom earplugs - Blue https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006ZLF9EU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M0-bDbPGJ40NY

I recently bought a set of autokicker panniers (granted they were for a thou). Really well made and inexpensive. Pretty pleased with them so far.

Sounds like a good trip all in Robbo. Great read at least anyway, thanks for posting.

It’s the wee feck ups that make the trip IMO as they add to the story. If everything goes to plan it all becomes a bit boring (aside from the riding and the scenery :))

Aye, those “virgin” bots are called chicken strips. Because of you got them on your tyre, your too chicken to lean over more 😂

Nice one Robbo, keep us posted.

Oh, and no pics??? :)

South end of Loch Lomond? Must not be far from me. I’m only a couple of miles from balloch.

“Bigger” is a bit ambiguous I suppose. Bigger in some directions but not others. Wider is more accurate. I remember a thread from a long time back where someone had chopped a tank from a 600 and 1000 up and welded them together into a frankentank. You could see which parts were bigger and smaller on those photos (can’t find the thread now).

12
The 1000 tank is definitely different to the 600 (it’s a bit bigger).

No experience myself but I remember reading a thread on here some time ago about a guy who had (got an upholsterer to) cut some of the foam out of the centre of the seat and fit softer memory foam in one section. Apparently it’s a trick the Harley boys who do mega miles use?

General / Re: Focer Font of knowledge speaker power RMS and stuff
« on: 27 May 2019, 08:59:14 pm »
Aye. That’s what I’m getting at. You’ll lose any benefit over the “thicker wire” which as Dazza said is negligible at this kind of power anyway. Might be worth thinking about cutting the wire short rather than coiling it. You can try coiling it like that but if you get bad interference odds are that’s where it will be coming from.

You should be able to extend the speaker wire on the current speakers without much hassle (might need to open them up mind).

It’s hard to say for sure if you can run the new unit with the old speakers (as you don’t really know what power the driver is rated to, only the tweeter at the top?). I would imagine it is fine but then if the speakers are 15 years old as well you probably won’t be getting the best out the new system either.

If it was me I would be trying to extend the wires on the new speakers and run with them. You could probably splice an extension o to the current wires without stripping the speakers part. For the amount of wattage running through them a simple soldered joint should be good enough).

The important question is what is driving the new system? What is the output of your system (amplifier/hifi etc).

Upgrading 5W speakers with 10W speakers is not beneficial if your system is only outputting 5W. Ideally you want the RMS speaker power paired to the output of your device to get a reasonable performance without spending too much money.

I was thinking more along the lines of this

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F392299912330

More of an as well as, rather than instead of.

Buy a pacsafe and put it over the tailpack if your parking up?

Never saw an off the shelf prevention. Padlocks on the zips etc are fair deterrents but as you say doesn’t stop some shyster from taking the full thing up the road :(

I took the plunge and went for the autokicker panniers. Got them fitted today, they seem pretty well made for a budget set.

A bit late now obviously and I don’t want to be “that guy”, but why not just mask it off?

I’ve never heard of stick on VIN plates, I wouldn’t think so for obvious reasons but I could well be wrong.

Not yet mickey. As I’m already in Scotland I’m just going to plan it last minute to get the best weather so I won’t now until a day or two before :)
