Bought an entire lock set including seat lock and petrol cap for £70, so it weren't so bad, getting the existing one off is going to be tricky. I've had my place upside down with no joy but im sure they'le turn up at some point

FZS600 Fazer / Ignition Barrel/ Lock-set replacement
« on: 13 November 2012, 11:49:47 am »
My two year old nephew decided to play a game of hide and seek with my only set of bike keys. It seems as though my only two options are to replace the ignition barrel or have a new key made by a locksmith using the existing barrel. Either way I have to remove the barrel from the yokes, unfortunately for obvious reasons, the Haynes manual and service manual have omitted any instructions on this procedure. I was wondering if any of you fellow foccers have done this or have any experience in these matters.

I have removed the dome headed bolts securing the ignition barrel cover. However it seem that there are two bolts underneath the the ignition housing that will need to be undone to remove the unit from the bike. Due to the awkward positioning of these bolts (which incidently also seem to some sort of domed bolts) what is the best way of getting them out. Please advise.

*After taking it down some twisty country roads at night i can honestly say that the headlights are far superior to the stock ones, they're standard philips 55w bulbs but can be upgraded to 60w so there's always room for improvements.
*The lower fairings are made by a company called skidmarx
*Just installed a 25mm jack-up kit, handles better in the corners and sets the bike of nicely.

*Regarding Petski's comments i struggled a lot in deciding whether or not to put the fairing back on as it looked great without it.

*Well Ton 13, if you ever fancy having something similar done to your bike pop down to Morris Ave Garage in East-London and ask for Joe, guy is a magician, its no wonder why we call him Merlin ;)

Also is anyone going down to the Brighton burn up this weekend? would be nice to meet a few fellow foccers ;-)

Due to my recent  bike modifications i no longer have any use for this item. Very stylish in comparison to the other brands, great build quality and highly practical (had a 48l top box on mine). In great condition with all fittings. Fits all models from 98-2003. R.R.P.  around £120-£130 http://www.chainspeed.co.uk/products/Alu%252dRack-for-Yamaha-FZS-600-Fazer-1998-onwards-by-SW%252dMotech.html

Thanks for the compliments guys :D  looking forward in seeing the outcome of your project  blue_faz600 ;-) and Fazer Jake, you read my mind, which size would you recommend as they go anywhere from 5mm to 40mm, judging by what i've read on this forum 25mm seems to be the best option?

Just out of curiosity how much did the projectors cost you? And are they the mini type? Been thinking about somehow installing some to mine for sometime now, you just showed me its possible!

Great work mate, can't wait to see the finished pics! :)

Yes they are mini projector lights and they work great, they work out roughly £45 each and they're well worth it!

Chapter 4: Final paint job/detailing.

Deciding a theme and a colour for the bike was quite challenging. After a lot of back and forth discussion with the team, Paula, the artist of our team suggested Camaro yellow aka bumblebee from the Transformers movie. I was quite adamant that we had a  stripe running down the tank and into the fairings to give it a sporty and racy look. We went for a slightly custom paint based on a Maserati yellow with a pearlescent fleck and several layers of lacquer to give it a deep gloss finish. For the stripes we went for a deep black taxi black and this was used on the custom logos of which we had stencils made. The pictures really don't do it justice but my bud Joe really knows how to work a paint-gun especially when he's tipsy!

Chapter 3: Custom Front Fairing

Was by far one of the most ambitious parts of the project so far. Aim was to create a curvier sportier front fairing whilst retaining the Fazers identity. Covered the little air scoop/vent at the bottom of the fairing to make it more streamlined. Also wanted the mirror swage-line follow through to the bottom of the pannel. After hours of fibre-glassing, filling, drilling, sanding and sculpting the end result speaks for itself. Going to get rid of the stock indicators and replace them with flush mount ones and have an LEd strip under the nose-cone as a DRL.

Check out my Custom fazer project found here  http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,4125.0.html, in particular chapter 2, projector lights are legally blinding ;-), much better lighting than the stock headlights.

No headligthts are not from a thumpstar but 2 projector lights (one main and one dipped) with 40mm lenses. Bracket and headlight housing completely custom made from a sheet of  good'old stainless steel ;-)
