Spark Plug Tool used to remove front wheel?
« on: 17 May 2020, 10:10:36 pm »
I think I've seen people post about using the Spark Plug tool that comes with the FZ6 tool kit to remove the front axle nut.

But I tried mine today and it was *just* a fraction too large to fit.

Could I use the Dremel to grind it down or would I be better getting the proper tool?

Is it a hex socket same as the S2? If it is, I think an M12 nut fits in it. I made up a tool using an M12 bolt and  two nuts locked together

get a socket set

I've got a bloody big socket set (although it only goes up to 24mm, so I've just had to buy a 27mm socket, see another thread),  but this is a bloody big Allen Key fitting... :(

I believe it's 19mm, but that tool that VNA linked to looks pretty handy, so I might as well get one of those as try to bodge something together.

Leave that spark plug tool from the FZ6 tool kit alone! The plugs on this bike are a right bitch to get to, and that tool is the best designed tool to get them out with such constrained access. You'll be cursing later on if you bodge it for another use.

Just guy buy a couple of extra sockets of the sizes you're missing to go with your current socket set.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I'm just about to do a whole lot of shopping for bike bits, so I'll check the links above and see what I like best :thumbup
