General / Price of "Rocket" fuel
« on: 26 August 2012, 11:40:43 am »
Noticed the cost of Shell unleaded has been steadily rising the last couple of weeks-it was 137.9ppl yesterday in Birmingham. If I was a cynic I might think it was to exploit the late summer bank holiday motorists/riders, but they wouldnt do a thing like that would they? :'(

General / Laughing in the face of danger?
« on: 03 August 2012, 08:26:30 am »
Had the pleasure of giving a particularly nice young female a lift on the thou last evening. She was nervous as she had never been on a powered 2-wheeler so we went steady and all I could hear was laughter behind me. When we reached our journeys end I asked if she was OK. Oh yes, she said, I always laugh when Im scared! I asked if that was the reason she had me in a vice like grip round my body! When she calmed down she said she wants to do it again. Funny how the young ladies think they can trust us "more mature" types, but its good for the ego when youre seen with a vision of loveliness with legs that go on and on....Beats using my bus pass any day! :lol

General / Flaming June!
« on: 08 June 2012, 09:12:58 am »
All was going well until the Government started talking drought! I see a small "window of opportunity" for a ride into Wales tomorrow-apparently its like the eye of the storm. Dont mind coming home in the wet Sunday but prefer to arrive dry!
When I went this time last year remember stopping to open all vents on clothing and muttering about the heat.Fond memories of sitting on Aberystwyth prom eating ice cream & chatting to fellow bikers from north west & south Wales. We even had a suntan. This year im rust coloured! :'(

General / Advice please!
« on: 04 June 2012, 09:55:40 am »
On removing bellypan on my FZS 1000 I discovered radial cracks in the plastic surrounding the rear mounting holes. :'(  Front ones have rubber inserts with steel bush so these ok. Rear ones have no anti-vibration bushes/collars-is this correct? Any recommendations re "plastic welding/repair?

General / Plastic Fatigue!
« on: 01 June 2012, 07:00:56 am »
Removed the bellypan on FZS 1000 to do a spot of cleaning around downpipes & front of engine (yes I know-havent I got better things to do!)& noticed cracks around mounting holes for rear frame brackets. The front mounts have rubber insert grommets but the rears have none & vibration has caused radial cracks around bolt holes, Whats the best way to repair these and should there be "grommet type" washers fitted?
Yes I have got places to ride next weekend when Im off to mid-Wales to warm the tyres up! :) Enjoy your long weekend all & ride safe

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Fazer Model Range
« on: 26 May 2012, 08:42:41 am »
With the introduction of the FZ8 & Fazer8 is it Yamahas intention to discontinue the 600 & 1Litre models in the foreseeable future?
I know sportsbike sales have taken a dive so are they trying for a VFR 800 type of market. Dont think theyve got it right yet though-theres something awful cheap about the suspension on an otherwise nicely finished bike. Pricing is still too high IMO
Seems like they discovered a winner with the early incarnations of Fazer 600 & 1000 in terms of go anywhere/do anything but when it came to model update time they thought they were trying for the sports market which they had already got sewn up with the R6 & R1. Am I missing something here? What would be a fair list price for the 8 series(Its only a start point for haggling isnt it?) :eek

General / Might this be summer?
« on: 21 May 2012, 11:32:27 am »
The grey overcast of the last few days is burning off above Birmingham.Theres even some "Mr Blue Sky" looking north. Better pay a visit to the petrol pumps-hope its not another false alarm. Plan to go riding with friend later in week who has come back to bikes after 30 years "caging"! :)

General / What did you do yesterday?
« on: 07 May 2012, 09:22:26 am »
Woke to blue sky & sun yesterday & the"shiny one" was keen to get its tyres warm. Took a ride to Bromsgrove,Kidderminster Ombersley&Worcester. River Severn running high and muddy. About 60 miles & back home for an afternoons worth of TV racing-Oulton Park looked good-a lot more scenic than watching Stoner ,Lorenzo etc circling Estoril. I used to enjoy MotoGP but for me its become a boring predictable foregone conclusion. Remember Rossi @ Donington in the pouring rain(2005 or 2006?) with the bike trying to spit him off, highsiding in zero visibility!   :eek  Im watching Cal Crutchlow though-time we had a top British rider again.

General / Irish rain is wetter than English!
« on: 28 April 2012, 11:15:00 am »
A few summers ago I set off from Wicklow in bright sunshine only to experience monsoon conditions crossing the mountains to Dublin.
Still remember sheltering under a tree with boots full of water, lighter that refused to work and totally demoralised by "wet underpant" syndrome. However later that day found me riding west towards Galway & a beautiful sunset. Moral? No pain no gain?

General / How wet is your drought?
« on: 28 April 2012, 11:08:58 am »
Funny thing since hosepipe bans announced we seem to have had nothing but rain! Like most foccers I daresay I pay more attention to weather forecasts than perhaps car drivers. Was looking forward to a ride tomorrow but our lovely weather girl smilingly tells me to expect strong winds & torrential rain tomorrow! Our water in Birmingham comes from the Frankley reservoir that links by pipeline to Elan Valley reservoirs 75 miles away. Last summer the Welsh reservoirs were well down(June) & after another dry winter-I guess its going to take a lot more rainfall to fill them up.

General / Fuel Prices
« on: 19 April 2012, 11:34:43 am »
I tend to buy Shell petrol to collect their "Pluspoints"-which is something Ive done since the days when I was buying 50-100 Litres Diesel per day. My local garage (Birmingham) is charging 141.9 pence per Litre today. Was just wondering if this varies around the Uk? How much are other "Foccers" being stung?
