FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Engine sound and tickover different?
« on: 03 October 2018, 06:49:09 pm »
OK, I took it in today as it got worse on the way to work. They knew immediately what the problem was and fixed it in 20 mins.

The injectors each have a sealer tube attached, 1 had split completely, one was almost split, and the others split as soon as they were touched. The pipes are quite long, and go to nothing, so they just cut the bad ends off, and re-attached, bike is sweet as a nut now!

Someone must have had this previously? Looks like a common fault as the bike gets older.

Think im going to use it tomorrow for work and hope for the best! The popping noise was the thing that told me something was wrong. Maybe the other engine noise was there before, just don't here it so much with helmet on...

Cheers for reply, not been ridden hard, has 25k on the clock. Once warmed, the revs were between 800 and 1000 RPM, when cold it was 1300-1700.
It doesn't sound as bad now, maybe I'm getting used to it? But it certainly seems to have more tappet noise and pumping noise than before. Not dared use it incase it was serious, but if we don't throw any light on here, I'll have to take it for a run and risk it!

FZ6 / Fazer / Engine sound and tickover different?
« on: 01 October 2018, 06:41:26 pm »
Hi Guys. On Saturday, I started my bike as normal, but immediately, a 'Pop' noise came from the engine. I never thought too much of it, but then noticed the idle speed seemed more erratic, not as smooth as normal, almost misfiring and I'm convinced the engine doesn't sound the same, more rattle and tappet noise.

Strange one, I know but any Ideas?

Cheers

Thanks, worth checking, does anyone know where the ECU concerned is located?

Not sure how old battery is, only had bike a year. When I connect to charger, it's always well charged, would be surprised if it was battery, cos done it even stopping off after a 100 mile trip.

Thanks, but as the bike hadn't been used for 3 weeks, I'd had it on trickle charge, so was definitely fully charged, and it's happened before while out on a run, and stopping for fuel, so would have been charged then too.

Thanks Adie, see where the confusion is with the codes then, 51 shows on the screen, and the immobiliser light flashes, and temp gauge top bars flash. Battery is good, been on constant charge, odd bit of wiring has had mods, heated grips, alarm etc. It is very random this fault, but now putting me off going out incase I get stranded!

Strange you should say that, cos I read 51 was key too somewhere, but have also seen it listed as fan relay. When it 1st happened, another Fazer was next to me and we thought his key had something to do with it. When it happened yesterday, I got my spare keys, even tried the red one, but non started the bike, but the a while later, it started. Even more confused now!

Went out yesterday on the bike, and 3 times it happened! Stranded, bike non starter Fault code is 51, which is cooler fan relay? Any ideas what could be wrong with it or where to look? Eventually started all times, but took 10 mins on some occasions, was worried about the battery going flat. 1st time, was from total cold start, bike from garage, not been used for 3 weeks, and wouldn't start, so it can't be a overheating problem. Any help gratefully received! Thanks.

FZ6 / Fazer / Temp non starter

Twice, whilst out on a rideout with mates, my FZ6 acted strange? After pulling into a petrol station, the bike failed to re-start, with the red immobiliser light flashing, but then started. Later, after a refreshment stop, the same thing happened, but I noticed the temp gauge was at the top and the top 2 notches flashing, so assumed it had overheated. I also noticed 2 numbers in the left side of the readout, can't remember whether it was 51 or 52? Assuming it was overheat due to the temp gauge flashing, we left it a while, but still, it wouldn't start. After approx 20 mins, it eventually decided to start, looking on forums etc, it was suggesting interference from another immobiliser key? One of the riders has an FZ1, could his key have been cutting mine out, or does anyone know what happened? Thanks!

Did a dry run last weekend,  my boss gave me a coorporate ticket to World superbikes at Silverstone, so went from Leicester on my bike via M1/A43, but coming back, decided to go A5 back via Hinckley, which is the route I think we will be taking. Enjoyed the run, tagging on the back of a lot of other bikes heading back from Silverstone. Should be a good ride with the festival to attend as well!

I can thoroughly recommend an oil change for cluncky gearboxes! Can't believe the difference it made on mine after changing the oil, as the clutch is oil fed on these.

After 10 months, still getting used to this bike, but now feel the need to push it further! Fastest I've been is 114 mph, and just want to ride further afield now. A mate of mine came off his FZ1 at low speed 2 months ago, £1600 to fix, which set my confidence back a bit, and his a lot!

I have got to get on my FZ6 early Sunday morning, and ride from Leicester to Silverstone for the Superbikes, just cos one of my bosses can't make his £500 access all areas ticket.

What a bugger.

I've got a few friends to join now too, 1 scooter mate, and a biker couple, just need to put it to 2 Foccer mates when I see them, sure they will come along if they are free!
